This document discusses general properties of waves. It defines key wave terms like amplitude, wavelength, frequency, speed and explains the difference between transverse and longitudinal waves. Transverse waves oscillate perpendicular to the direction of travel, like light waves, while longitudinal waves oscillate parallel to travel, like sound waves. Water waves in a ripple tank can demonstrate reflection at barriers, refraction when speed changes due to depth, and diffraction through gaps. The wave equation relating speed, wavelength and frequency is also presented.
