This document discusses copyright issues and proposes an alternative distribution model called Genero. It begins by outlining problems with current copyright laws and vertical integration in conventional distribution models. It then introduces concepts like copyleft and creative commons that form the theoretical foundation for Genero. Genero is proposed as a non-exclusive, open distribution system based on open standards that would connect a free culture and encourage new distribution channels. The system would include a registry, licences, and payment mechanisms to facilitate open sharing of content while compensating creators. Some sample endorsements are provided, though progress establishing standards has proven difficult due to resistance to change from entrenched interests.
