What is genre?
The form that your writing will take
It depends on:
- your audience (reader)
- your purpose
How to distinguish
between genres

Examples:
- Books
- Movies
- Plays
- Etc.

- Comedy, drama, horror, romance, thriller, fantasy,
etc.

- Abstract, book review, commentary, critique, cover
letter, email, memo, journal, profile, proposal,
business plan, etc.
So,
A genre makes use of its unique features to
distinguish itself from other types of writing.

- What kind information does my reader need?
- What do I want them to get out of my writing?
- What should my genre then be?
