- 2. Geoboard • A Geoboard is a mathematical manipulative used to explore basic concepts in plane geometry such as perimeter, area and the characteristics of triangles and other polygons. It consists of a physical board with a certain number of nails half driven in, around which are wrapped rubber bands.
- 3. How to make Geoboard • Aim: To make a geoboard and verify properties of geometrical shapes on it. • Material Required: A Thermocol Sheet, Sketch Pen, Pins, Rubber Band.

Procedure • Step 1: Take a thermocol sheet. • Step 2: Now, with a sketch pen, draw 11 lines horizontally and 11 lines vertically leaving a gap of 1 inch between every line. • Step 3: Now, insert the pins on the points where vertical and horizontal lines intersect each other. • Step 4: Now, the Geoboard is ready.

Experiment • Take a rubber band and stretch it along 6 horizontal and 4 vertical pins, so as to form a rectangle of size 5x3. • Now calculate the number of squares, inside the rectangular figure. The number of squares inside the rectangular figure i.e. 15 is equal to area of that rectangle. Proof Area of rectangle= length x breadth Area of rectangle= 5 x 3 sq.inches Area of the rectangle= 15 sq.inches
