Rate held firm at 90% and the Class of
2016 was the largest in school history.
We have increased
graduation rates 5% since
starting our school-wide
OTG work three years ago.

87% of WPHS graduates go
onto higher education
(54% go onto four year colleges
and 33% two year colleges).
100% of AVID
students accepted
to college; 97%
planned to attend.

$5.1 million in scholarship dollars were
accepted by the Class of 2016 at the
time of graduation.
Scholarships accepted increased by
$1.7 million from the previous year.

A total of 697 WPHS students took
1,622 Advanced Placement (AP)
exams in May 2016 to demonstrate
college readiness, including 260
seniors; 291 juniors; 141
sophomores; and 5 freshmen.
WPHS is also maintaining record
numbers of AP scholars—222.

A total of 150 West Potomac academy
students took on internship and job
shadow experiences with some of our
30 business partners in 2015-16.
West Potomac’s second year of the Governor’s Youth
Development Academy supported hundreds of
at-promise students plan the path to college while
offering the school its first Career Exploration Night.

West Potomac Theatre earned 9
nominations and 2 wins in the 2016
Cappies adding to the many accolades
of the recent past; next up two
regional premiere shows and back to
the Fringe Festival in Scotland.
Each West Potomac music group earned
high marks at its ‘15-16 assessments,
upholding our powerhouse status.
Hundreds of
students, staff,
and community
celebrated the
WP Pyramid Art
Show, which
along with the
Arts Extravaganza
maximizes
support for the
fine arts as well.

Mathematics
After 20% gains last year, maintained progress or
saw growth in each student subgroup category.

Reading
Reversed a four year trend of declining performance;
amazing growth in almost every subgroup.

Social Studies
Reversed small losses from ‘14-15 and with literacy
focus, saw growth in absolutely every subgroup.

Reversed small losses from ’14-15, achieved overall
growth, and sizable gains with LEP and SWD subgroups.
