Introduction

GIT-334, Image Capture and Manipulation, addresses the theory and
application of advanced image editing and raster techniques for
reproduction and dissemination. It deals mostly with editing images
that are composed of pixels, and instructs students how to learn to
convert digital images for all use formats in a structured and efficient
manner. In this course, students can expect to learn the skills
associated with the design and professional editing of graphic files for
print media, motion, the World Wide Web, and anywhere else. This
course covers mainly the use of Adobe Photoshop and the associated
workflow. Photoshop is the industry standard for working with nearly
any form of static image that is not composed of vectors. It explores
the theory and application of advanced techniques for image
editing, compositing, conversion, and much more.

                                                                             3
Introduction

  Image Capture:
A bit of a misnomer. GIT384: Intro to Commercial Photography covers
image capture. This class will just scratch the surface.

  Manipulation:
This covers a lot. Essentially, everything we do to an image to make it look
its best anywhere we want to send it no matter where it came from.

                     Its all about Photoshop.

                                                                            4

Editor's Notes

  • #10: Some applications for high speed imaging include: “production line trouble shooting, machine diagnostics, destructive testing, automated assembly, packaging, paper manufacturing and converting, and a variety of impact, shock, and drop tests. Some research groups use the technology to study combustion, ballistics, aerodynamics, flow visualization and human performance” (Balch, 1999).
