GOAL SETTING
Presented By – Ravi Kumar
INTRODUCTION
A Goal may be defined as the desired results a person wants to achieve. It
involves committing time and effort in asking yourself key issues of life. It is
starting a journey with the end in mind, without Goals life becomes
meaningless
.
TYPES OF GOAL
There are Three Types of Goal
Short Term Goals
Intermediate Term Goals
Long Term Goals
Short Term Goals (within one year)
Short-term goals generally take under one year to achieve, based on the date the
task is needed, the total estimated cost, and required savings. So, what are your
goals? Make up a list, decide which timeline your goal(s) fit into, detail the steps
necessary to achieve your goals, then take action toward reaching those goals.
Intermediate-term goals (1-5 years)
Intermediate-term goals are those that can't be executed overnight but might not
take many years to accomplish. Examples may include purchasing/replacing a car,
getting an education or certification, or paying off your debt (depending on the
amount).
Long Long-term goals (over 5 years)
Long-term goals are those that won't happen overnight, no matter how hard you
work to achieve them. They make take a long time to accomplish, so give yourself a
reasonable amount of time, based on your best estimates of what it will take to
achieve them. Examples of long-term goals might include college education for a
child or purchasing a home. Whatever the case, these goals generally require
longer commitments and often more money.
WHAT IS GOAL SETTING
 Goal setting is a powerful process for thinking about your
ideal future, and for motivating yourself to turn your vision
of this future into reality.
 You can set goals in all aspect of life. Goals can be
spiritual, financial, or educational.
 If you are setting a personal goal, the first step is to
consider what you want to achieve in your lifetime (or at
least, by a significant and distant age in the future).
Setting lifetime goals gives you the overall perspective
that shapes all other aspects of your decision making.
GOAL SETTING SHOULD BE SMART
SPECIFIC GOALS
 Goals should have expected outcomes stated as simply
and clearly as possible.
 Use as much detail as you can
 I will create a business team of 100 people for
marketing.
MEASUREABLE GOALS
 When setting your goals, you must also set specific
criteria for measuring progress against those goals. This
gives your employees a way to stay on track, aim for
target dates, and reach milestones that will serve as
ongoing motivation.
ATTAINABLE GOALS
 Goals should be ATTAINABLE. Is your goals reasonable?
Are you willing and able to accomplish your goals? It is
important to address these questions at the time of goal
setting
 In other words, whatever goal you set for your self you
should be able to fulfill them
 Goals should have outcomes that are realistic given your
current situation, resources, and available time.
TIME BOUND
Goals should be TIMELY Setting deadlines for
achievement of goals will keep you on track. To be most
effective and goals must be structured around a specific
timeframe to provide a sense of urgency. This serves to
motivate individuals to begin working on their goals as
soon as possible
RELEVENT
Goals should be RELEVANT/REALISTIC. Your goals should
be related to the direction you want your career to take. It
is important that your short-term and long-term goals are
in simultaneous execution.
Goals should help you on your journey toward meeting
larger, ultimate life outcomes
IMPORTANCE OF GOAL SETTING
Goals Give You Focus
Goals Allow You To Measure Progress
Goals Help You Overcome Procrastination
Goals Give You Motivation
Goal setting builds your self-confidence
Goal setting is a method of deciding what you want to
achieve in life
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DREAM &
GOALS
GOALS DREAMS
 Goals are something you
are acting on.
 Goal require an action
 Goals have Deadlines
 Goals must have time limit
 Goals have a cost (time,
money)
 Goals produce a result
 Goals are based in reality
 Goals can change your life
 Goals require hard work
 Dreams are something you
are just thinking about
 Dream can happen without
lifting a finger
 Dreams are just, well
dreams
 Dream can go on forever
 Dreams are free
 Dreams don’t
 Dreams are imaginary
 Dreams can inspire you
 Dreams just require your
imagination
CONCLUSION
