- 1. Going to X Will
- 2. GOING TO: * We use going to to talk about actions in the future. Although, it has different uses. 1- We can use going to to talk about action that we have already decided. Ex: I’m going to travel to Moscow! I’ve already bought the tickets.
- 3. 2-We can also use going to to talk about predictions, I mean, when we say that sth is going to happen in the future, in other words, when the situation is clear: Check the following example
- 4. The cat is going to fall in the water. Ownnnn : (
- 5. 3- It’s also possible to use going to with the verb to be in the past to express situations that were interrupted, I mean, that weren’t finished. Check the following example
- 6. She was going to get married but her fiancé broke up with her.
- 7. WILL : 1-It’s possible to use will when we want to talk about actions in the future that were not arranged yet. Ex: I will pass in a public contest. (but this person is not sure if she will pass or not)
- 8. 2- It’s also possible to use will when the action is decided at the moment of speaking. * Take a look at the following example
- 9. Green: Ouch! Oouuuch!!!!!!! Orange: Oh Gosh! I will call the ambulance.
- 10. 3- We can also use will to express predictions, but this case is different from going to. * Take a look at the next example
- 11. Situation: Karen (their friend) is doing an exam next week They are talking about it. Do you think Karen will pass the exam ? Yes, she’ll pass easily. She’s very smart! “She will pass” doesn’t mean that Karen has decided to pass, the blond girl is just saying what she thinks will happen, in other words, she’s perdicting the future.
- 12. 5- We often use will with: a) Probably : I’ll probably be late for dinner. b) I expect: I expect he’ll like the surprise. c) I’m sure I’m sure he’ll fail. d) I (don’t)think I think they’ll be happy. In spoken English the negative of will is won’t (will + not).
