Google classroom intro
Overview
In this presentation, you will learn about the following
aspects of Google Classroom:
• What it is
• How it works
• Pros and Cons
If at anytime you have questions, please feel free to
stop me!
What is Google Classroom?
Google Classroom, through Google’s Apps in Education, is an online learning
platform that can serve many functions, such as:
• Provide online learning opportunities for students through a variety of
means
• Post students assignments and other resources
• Allow students to complete assignments online, as well as grade and
return assignments to students digitally
• Email access to students enrolled in your classes
• Create discussion board questions for students to respond to and other
items
How does Google
Classroom work?
Once you have created a class, you can:
• Add students, assignments, lecture outlines, videos, web links, etc.
Anything you add will be placed in a Classroom only file in your
Google Drive (created automatically for you!)
• Students will be able to submit work to Classroom, and you will be
able to grade and provide feedback to that work; you can evaluate
and provide feedback on the go, you do not have to wait for students
to submit work!
• Student projects can be created with ease, as Google Drive allows for
you to view progress on assignments and view revision/editing
histories
What are the pros of Google
Classroom?
Google Classroom has numerous advantages that will make your life
easier, including:
• Less to no paper clutter when collecting and grading assignments
• Ease of communication, as students should never need to ask you
when something is due
• Ability to use on any device that has access to the Internet, including
Android and iOS applications!
• Ability to share almost any resource with your students at any time
What are the cons of Google
Classroom?
All good things have some flaws, including Google Classroom, such as:
• The need to manually transfer grades from Classroom to Infinite
Campus or other online gradebook platform
• Inability to use the email function of Classroom on district
computers, as Gmail is blocked (CCSD); if your district is unfiltered,
then GAME ON!
• Inability to give parents/guardians access to Classroom, as an GAFE
email address is required to access Google Classroom
• The site can be temperamental at times, not allowing you to view
submitted work, post assignments, etc.; however, this is rare
In Conclusion
Google Classroom is a great tool for anyone that is
looking to:
• incorporate technology in their curriculum and flip
your classroom
• reduce or eliminate paper grading and clutter and
provide better and more frequent feedback
• provide more resources to their students in an
easier fashion, such as YouTube videos
How does Google
Classroom work?Google Classroom works through your GAFE (Google Apps for Education)
email address; will not work with a non-GAFE account
To access Google Classroom, head to http://classroom.google.com
From there, you can create a class as a teacher, or join a class as a student
Co-teaching function is also available, allowing teams of teachers to have
access to students, post/grade work, provide feedback, etc.
No limit to number of classes you can create; you can create one for each
period if you’d like
What’s next?
For the remainder of the time, I will show you:
● my Google Classrooms
● how my Drive is organized
● how to add assignments, videos, links, use Google
Drive, etc.
● how to set up your own Google Classroom
