The Problem and Its Background
Introduction
In essence, grading is an exercise in professional judgment on the part of instructors. It involves the
collection and evaluation of evidence on students' achievement or performance over a specified
period of time, such as nine weeks, an academic semester, or entire school year. Through this process,
various types of descriptive information and measures of students' performance are converted into
grades or marks that summarize students'...show more content...
Conceptual Framework Linear System theory is the foundation of the basic analysis of this system.
Linear system theory assumes a cause–and–effect relationship for the components of a system. The
input and output relationship represents processing the cause–and–effect of the process, which in
turn represents a processing of the input variables to provide an output variable. The paradigm of
the study consists of the context as shown in Figure 1. INPUTPROCESSOUTPUT
The context is composed of the existing system in the manner of computing grades which are either
manually or computerized by using spreadsheets. Moreover, it also includes the sources of data
which are the reading materials like magazines, books, internet and by observing and asking
qualified respondents that could give clarity to the study. The process of developing an onlinegrade
management system consists of creating a system flow chart that will serve as a guide in the
creation of the program/system, the ERD (Entity–Relationship Diagram) that will be essential for the
database or record keeping of the system and encoding, debugging errors and execution of the
program.
Statement of the Problem The general problem of the study is how to develop an online
management system. There are some specific problem in this study that needs to be solved to
accomplish the project. They are the

Education is undoubtedly one of the most important parts of any human society. Without it human
beings could not have been at the current point of time where we all know tremendously about life
and the universe. We are now better off than we were. However, it is clear that there is still huge
variety of phenomena waiting for our discovery. The most important objective of education is to
help human beings pursue their burning desires to learn and reach their potential. In that way we
progress. Therefore, it is vital to help or at least not hinder education to fulfill its goals.

Now let us examine the mostly accepted reasons for assessing students' achievements using
conventional grading systems.
The one rationale for grading is to sort students like "potatoes" so that higher institutions – colleges
and universities – and employers choose as correctly as possible from these sorted "potatoes". (Alfie)
Certainly higher education and future jobs are among most significant things in life. However, the
purpose of education, in particular high schools, is not to serve these institutions by sorting students
like potatoes, but help pupils to discover their interests, enhance learning, and reach their potentials.

Grading System Reform
Teachers have always used grades to measure the amount a student has learned. This practice is
becoming ineffective. Many students have a wide range of grades, which show that grades may not
show what a student really knows. Therefore, the standard grading system should be replaced. Some
reasons why grades should be replaced are bad grades can hinder a child's performance, grades define
who a student is in the classroom, and grades are not an effective way to see if students have learned
the material. The current grading system should be upgraded and every school should incorporate

A student can be excluded from their peer groups because they have a bad grade. Being left out
can make a student not want to improve academically. If they get bad grades others will see them
as a poor student and will expect them to do poor in life. The process most schools use to evaluate
student performance is grade point average and class rank. The academic recognition programs that
exist in the United States are driven by a student's grade point average and class rank. Those
measures serve as the primary method in establishing student recognition. If this ranking is not the
sole factor in the recognition program, it is always included in the student's assessment. The school
culture recognizes individuals that are in the top one–third of the school's class rank

to 24 in the civilian, non–institutionalized population were not enrolled in and had not completed
high school. While the exact magnitude of the problem may be elusive, the fact that it's particularly
severe in large urban schools has been understood for some time.
One study looked at high schools in the nation's 35 largest cities and identified 200 to 300 schools –
about half of the regular and vocational high schools in those cities – where more than 50 percent of

administering follows the traditional system or method. The instructor submits students' grade to the
registrar in file folder and at the end of the semester, the students request for release of grades. This
is the time where the registrar has to assists the students in searching for their grades manually.

Standard Grading Scale
Many people learn many different ways. I feel that it is better to grade people off of the standard
grading scale. We have used it for many decades, so why change it now? Three reasons why we
should keep the grading scale the same are everyone is used to tests, quizzes, and worksheets, I
feel that people learn better if you do not make them do half of the work at home, and one should
not be forced to present a project in the middle of a room full of people. Firstly, everyone is
already used to the grading scale. We memorize facts that are input into the tests. If we switch this

For the first paper the scores ranged from 64 to 98, and the second from 50 to 97. Some teachers
focused on elements of grammar and style, neatness, spelling, and punctuation, while others
considered only how well the message of the paper was communicated. The following year Starch
and Elliot repeated their study using geometry papers submitted to math teachers and found even
greater variation in math grades. Scores on one of the math papers ranged from 28 to 95–a 67–point
difference. While some teachers deducted points only for a wrong answer, many others took
neatness, form, and spelling into consideration. These demonstrations of wide variation in grading
practices led to a gradual move away from percentage scores to scales that had fewer and larger
categories. One was a three–point scale that employed the categories of Excellent, Average, and
Poor. Another was the familiar five–point scale of Excellent, Good, Average, Poor, and Failing, (or
A, B, C, D, and F). This reduction in the number of score categories served to reduce the variation
in grades, but it did not solve the problem of teacher subjectivity. To ensure a fairer distribution of
grades among teachers and to bring into check the subjective nature of scoring, the idea of grading

Using the Local Area Network (LAN), the faculty can send a soft copy of the students' grades. The
teachers can use it if they are somewhat busy to other plans. Since the study is grading system, it
also has limitation. This system is not connected to the Student Information System and Enrolment
System of the institution so the students must register to this application every time after they are
enrolled. Significance of the Study The proposed study goal is to build up a new grading system for
the K–12 students of Sta. Teresa College that is benefitted to: 1. Students. The students can view
their grades using their account in the application. 2. Faculty Teachers. The teachers can be easily
add, edit and delete grades without editing the computations because it is already set. 3. Registrar.
The registrar can be easily approved the grades that are submitted by the teachers.. 4. Upcoming
Researchers. This thesis study will be their guide on how to make and enhance grading system

The grading system of UH is a problem. For sure, students care about the grades. Some of them
worried about it if they didn 't make A in classes. Some of them afraid of failing the courses.
Parents want their kids to make good grades, also. The grading system of UH make the students

We have used it for many decades, so why change it now?
