CARLO PERROTTA, FUTURELAB The challenge of socio-cultural orchestration. The emphasis of the emerging orchestration metaphor has been largely on instructional design, however it could be argued that other important elements are the motivational aspects and the social values that influence learning in technology-enhanced environments. Hence, a discussion about orchestration should also be framed as a discussion about the circumstances in which specific approaches to innovative teaching and educational change are effective, the kind of values and practices they promote, and the types of support they require. Such discussion would favour a more socio-cultural perspective by which orchestration means that a practitioner is capable of accounting for the social, motivational and institutional/political variables that come into play in the real educational context in which she operates.
