- 2. 2 Livia Daniel Meagan Harrelson FRIT 7232 25 October 2015 Abstract The purpose of this grant proposal for professional development in Google is to assist teachers at *Harden County High School in implementing the usage of Google, Gmail, Google Apps, and Google Classroom in the classroom with all students. Teachers at the school require training in using Google and Google Apps before they are expected to implement it in their classrooms. The goal of this professional development is the implementation of Google Apps and Google Classroom into all classrooms by all teachers by December 30, 2015. This professional development will consist of seven different trainings on the usage and implementation of specific Google Apps and tools. The intended outcome of this professional development is for teachers to implement Google Apps and Google Classroom into their classrooms and for students to proficiently use their own Gmail accounts and learn how to access and use specific Google Apps and tools. - 3. 3 The administration and faculty at *Harden County High School are requesting funds for professional development in using Google for education. After completing a brief needs assessment with the district technology leader, it was discovered that the most technology help tickets (around 60%) are turned in regarding access to Google accounts for teachers and students. Many teachers do not fully understand how to implement Google Apps and student Gmail accounts into lessons. Many students do not know how to access their school Gmail account or use Google Apps. We have designed a 7-week schedule for this training, and have included SMART goals as well as a budget. Teachers will also complete a Google Forms pre-survey (Appendix A) prior to the first training for developers to determine where teachers believe their weaknesses lie in using and implementing Google into their classrooms. Teachers will also take a post-survey (Appendix B) the following semester to determine if they have successfully implemented Google into their classrooms. The surveys were created using Google Forms. We are requesting a total of $980.00. Page 3 shows an abbreviated version of our goals, schedule, and budget, followed by a detailed breakdown of each. *Pseudonym S.M.A.R.T. By December 30, 2015, fully implement Google Classroom for teachers and students using clearly defined processes and guidelines so that teachers can more easily and consistently manage instruction and students can be more engaged in their learning. 2. Increase student implementation of the school issued Gmail account across all subject areas, including but not limited to Google Docs, Forms, Sheets, and Slides. Planned Activities and Budget ● Googly Delicious - 10 books for departments to share - $28e/$280 ● Google workshops, 1 hour each week: ○ Gmail and Google Drive- Week of Nov. 2 - $100 ○ Google Forms- Week of Nov. 9 - $100 ○ Google Calendar- Week of Nov. 16 - $100 ○ Google sites - Week of Nov. 23 - $100 ○ Setting up Google Classroom - Week of Nov. 30 - $100 ○ Adding Announcements and Assignments - Week of Dec. 7 - $100 ○ Grading Student Assignments and Returning Them (Using Forms, Flubaroo, Doctopus, etc.) - Week of Dec. 14 - $100 ● Remaining days before Christmas break will be used for teachers to demonstrate proficiency and for remediation as needed. ● .5 PLU will be given to all teachers who complete Google training Budget $280.00 - books $700.00 - training ________________ $980.00 - Total Plan of Action for Google Training (Teachers will be sent the link to the pre-survey linked in Appendix A to submit prior to October 16, 2015)

Our first SMART goal will be achieved through direct teacher training and practice. Our second SMART goal will be achieved through teacher implementation of skills acquired from the training. Teachers will be expected to gradually introduce Google/based skills and activities to students as they are trained, so that all classrooms are proficient with Google by second semester. In a world that is constantly shifting more toward technology, our main objective with this goal is to help our teachers meet the needs of our students. Students today are very tech- savvy, and using Google to reach them will better equip our teachers for engaging them. Teachers will be expected to transfer the skills learned in this training to their classrooms. They will need to be able to teach their students how to use Google classroom, along with the many branches of Google that go along with it. In order to perform at a proficient level, teachers will need extensive knowledge of Gmail, Google Classroom, and Google Apps taught throughout the training. Teachers must perceive this training as an opportunity rather than a dreadful task. Teachers must understand the extent to which proficiency of these skills can help them to be better teachers and make many aspects of teaching, such as grading assignments, much easier for them! 2. Increase student implementation of the school issued Gmail account across all subject areas, including but not limited to Google Docs, Form, Sheets, and Slides. Students will access and fully take advantage of their school Gmail accounts and Google Apps in all teachers’ classrooms in the school. Students should be taught how to use and fully take advantage of their Gmail accounts and Google Apps by their teachers in all subject areas. If all teachers implement Google in their classrooms, students will be using their Gmail accounts and Google Apps more than once a day. Whenever a student signs into a computer at school, they should be expected to use the Gmail account Students must be taught how to access their Gmail accounts and how to use certain Google Apps. With more practice in classrooms across all subject matters, students will become knowledgeable and skilled in using their Gmail accounts and Google Apps. Students must understand that the use of their Gmail accounts and Google apps will make learning more applicable to real world situations and also will help them be prepared for their next steps in their education or job.
