NATURAL ENVIRONMENT
The term 'natural environment' refers to the non-human-made surroundings
and conditions in which all living and non-living things exist on Earth.
A natural environment is one in which human impact is kept under a certain
limited level. Everything that is not human-made comes under natural
environment. Land, air, water, plants and animals all comprise the natural
environment.
Resources are categorized into many categories:
Natural Resources
Renewable/Non-renewable Resources
Exhaustible / non- exhaustible Resources
Let us understand these types one by one:
Natural Resources:
Natural resources can be defined as the resources that exist (on the planet)
independent of human actions. Common examples of natural resources include
air, sunlight, water, soil, stone, plants, animals, and fossil fuels.
Natural resources are Earth materials
used to support life and meet the
needs of people. Any organic material
used by humans can be considered as
a natural resource. Natural resources
include oil, coal, natural gas, metals,
stone, and sand. Air, sunlight, soil, and
water are other natural resources.
Renewable/Non-renewable Resources
Renewable resources:
Non-renewable Resources:
Renewable resources are the ones that are consistently available
regardless of their use. Examples include vegetation, water, and
air.
A renewable resource is one that can be used repeatedly and
does not run out because it is naturally replaced. A renewable
resource, essentially, has an endless supply such as solar energy,
wind energy etc.
Renewable/Non-renewable Resources
Non-renewable resources:
Non-renewable Resources:
Non-renewable resources are the ones that cannot simply be
substituted or recovered once they have been utilized or destroyed.
A non-renewable resource refers to a natural resource that is found
beneath the earth, which when consumed, does not replenish or
renew at the same speed at which it is used up.
Exhaustible / non- exhaustible Resources
Non-Exhaustible resources:
The natural resources that the living being of the earth can never
consume to finish them is known as Non-exhaustible resources.
Nature has blessed us with an unlimited supply of resources such
as air, water and sunlight. These resources are called Non-
exhaustible resources.
Exhaustible / non- exhaustible Resources
Exhaustible resources:
Resources which are available in limited quantity and can be
completely used up by human activities like : coal and petroleum.
How Environment is Crucial for Us
The environment is responsible for air purification and disaster
control.
The environment is the source of clean water, medicines, clothing,
biofuels, wood and fossil fuels.
the environment supports most economic activities in the world.
Economic activities, such as fishing, agriculture, manufacturing and
tourism, depend largely on the environment.
The environment provides natural beauty for the amusement and
relaxation of human beings.
Practices for Conservation of Resources
Soil:
Afforestation
Plantation of bushy plants
and trees in deserts
Crop rotation
Controlling overgrazing
Controlling the shifting
cultivation
Practices for Conservation of Resources
Water:
Drip irrigation
Recycling of waste water
Rain water harvesting
Treatment of sewage water
Treatment of industrial waste
before discharge water into
drains and rivers
Practices for Conservation of Resources
Air:
Car pooling
Increasing height of chimneys
Use of CNG
Public awareness
Use of electric automobiles
Practices for Conservation of Resources
Forest and Wildlife:
Prevention of forest fire
Establishment of national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, zoological
gardens
Practices for Conservation of Resources
Minerals:
Reuse and recycling
Use of modern, efficient technology
Changing energy-waste and lifestyles
Using energy-efficient equipment
Use of LPG(liquid petroleum gas) in rural areas.
Use of CNG(Compressed natural gas) in vehicles.
