The Greendex 2009 report, a global survey by National Geographic, indicates a rise in environmentally friendly consumer behavior across 13 out of 14 countries surveyed since 2008, with consumers in developing economies like India, Brazil, and China scoring highest. Major improvements were noted in housing-related sustainability, while transportation behavior saw mixed results, especially in developed nations. Overall, cost-saving motivations played a significant role in the increase of sustainable practices among consumers, despite a slight decrease in general environmental concern compared to the previous year.
