What is “Grooming”?
It is the process of making yourself look
neat and attractive.
It involves the things which you do to make
you appear tidy and pleasant.
Grooming also means dressing well, to
be presentable to others.
What’s the big deal?
Grooming and dress code do not make
a man; but, when he is made, they
greatly improve his appearance.
People learn best about you not by
being told, but by experiencing your
appearance and actions.
READ CAREFULLY AND THINK
Grooming enhances your appearance
and professionalism.
Whether this is real or imaginary the
most important fact is that your
appearance influences the opinions of
everyone around you.
Grooming is important for a positive
self-image and to encourage and to
assist in maintaining a pleasing and
attractive appearance.
Some of the perceptions people can
form solely from your appearance
are:
Your professionalism.
Your level of
sophistication.
Your intelligence.
Your credibility or
reliability.
Respect for you.
Professional Grooming Aspects
Overall Cleanliness.
Hair.
Nails.
Teeth.
Make-up.
Accessories.
Dress Code/Uniform.
OVERALL CLEANLINESS
 Take shower at least twice a day if possible
otherwise once daily.
 Give proper attention to your cleanliness.
 Clothes you are wearing must be neat ,tidy and
odour free.
 Give a due check to your body odour.
 Treat yourself to get an oil free and neat look.
 Take adequate steps for cure and prevention
of skin and other diseases.

Hairstyles for Men
 Not fall over the ears,
eyebrows or even touch
the back of the collar.
 Should always present a
neat appearance.
 Facial hair should be as low
as possible.
 Untrimmed moustache,
sideburns and beards are not

• Tie your hair in a neat hairstyle with
hair pulled back from face.
• Hair if longer than jaw line, should
be tied into a bun.
• Should be well combed with a neat
appearance at all times.
• Hair holding devices should be plain
and of natural colour and conspicuous
rubber bands and flowery pins are not
advisable.
NAILS
Clip nails short, along
their shape.
A healthy body ensures
healthy nails.
Brittle or discolored nails
show up deficiencies or
disease conditions.
TEETH & MOUTH
 Brush teeth twice a day
and rinse well after every
meal.
 Remember to rinse your
mouth after every meal.
 For those who smoke, it is
important you rinse your
mouth after every smoke
and use a mouth freshener.
Make-up : WOMEN
Makeup should be natural looking.
Nail polish and lip color should not be too trendy
or bright.
Mild fragrance.
Women: stay away from extremely dark, bright
reds and fluorescent colors.
Hair color should not be more than one or two
shades darker or lighter than your natural hair
color. Unnatural colors (burgundy, green, etc.) must
be avoided.
ACCESSORIES-MEN
Men should limit accessories/jewelry to 3
pieces.
Accessories include ring ,wallet , handkerchief
etc. which shouldn’t be too casual.
A dress watch should be worn and avoid
sporty & athletic styles.
Avoid bracelets, necklaces, and visible
piercings.
The spectacles must be simple in design and
not ornate and glittering.

ACCESSORIES-WOMEN
 Jewelry should be keep minimal , normal and
conservative.
 Remove all facial piercing except earrings and
avoid chunky bracelets or too many bangles.
 The 5 Piece Rule: Wear only 5 accessories –
earrings count as 2; watch counts as 3, allowing2
additional accessories.
 Apart from your working bag if you are
carrying an additional bag, preferably, carry a
black or a brown one.
