This document outlines tasks for workshop groups on strengthening capacity for strategic agricultural policy and investment planning in Africa. The workshop focuses on strategic analysis, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), and knowledge management (KM) and communications. Each group is asked to identify major players in their country for these areas and constraints they face. They will then discuss how to overcome the constraints to better inform evidence-based agricultural policy making through analysis, data collection, and knowledge sharing. The overall goal is to strengthen countries' abilities to meet targets for poverty reduction, food security, and agricultural growth.

Strategic analysis • Fill knowledge gaps on key issues raised in this meeting and other country forums: • What level of investment is needed to meet national poverty reduction and food security targets? MDG1? • Is 6% agric growth target sufficient? • What agricultural sub-sectors can generate the most growth? • Climate change issues • Land grabs • Trade • Gender • Quality investment plans

Monitoring & Evaluation • Implementation of investment plans • M&E • Overall agricultural sector performance • Assessing impact of investments and policies against goals and targets – Collecting and analyzing data (agric investments, growth, trade, poverty, food and nutritional security, etc) – Assessing impact on sector goals and targets – Reporting and informing
