Grylloblattodea, commonly known as rock crawlers or ice crawlers, are elongate, wingless insects that are active predators found in cold, wet environments under stones, in rotting logs or leaf litter. They have reduced eyes and long antennae and cerci. As adults they are 2-3.5 cm long. They favor low temperatures around 4°C and lay black eggs singly, with embryonic development taking months to years.
