SIR JOSEPH S. ALVARADO
HEALTH 9
OBJECTIVES:
*identify the different
environmental issues
* Explain the causes and effect of
the environmental problems
* Write insights about the effects of
environmental problems in an essay
form.
TYPES OF
ENVIRONMENTAL
ISSUES
Solid waste refers to all
discarded household,
commercial waste, non-
hazardous institutional and
industrial waste, street
sweepings, construction
debris, agricultural waste,
and other
non-hazardous/non-toxic
waste
1. Poor Solid Wastes Disposal
means any alteration of the
physical, chemical,
biological, or radiological
properties of a body of water
resulting in the impairment of
its purity or quality.
2. Water Pollution
Sources of Water Pollution
Industrial
Agricultural
Sewages
Industrial: The
metal varies
according to industry
— lead, mercury,
chromium, cadmium
and cyanide.
Agricultural: Organic —
decayed plants, dead
animals, livestock manure,
soil runoff; and non-organic
— pesticides and fertilizers.
Domestic
sewage:
Contains pathogens
that threaten human
health and life.
Air pollution is the contamination
of air due to the presence of
substances in the atmosphere
that are harmful to the health of
humans and other living beings,
or cause damage to the climate
or to materials
3. Air pollution
Noise pollution, or sound pollution,
is the propagation of noise or sound
with ranging impacts on the activity
of human or animal life, most of
which are harmful to a degree. The
source of outdoor noise worldwide
is mainly caused by machines,
transport and propagation systems
Noise pollution
- Greenhouses gases are the main cause
of climate change, trapping in the sun’s
heat and warming the surface of the
earth.
- An increased ocean temperature is
affecting the sea life and ecosystems
habituated there.
- The rise in global sea levels is shrinking
our land, causing mass floods and freak
weather incidents across the world.
5. Climate Change
Biodiversity, or the variety of all living
things on our planet, has been declining
at an alarming rate in recent years,
mainly due to human activities, such as
land use changes, pollution and climate
change.
6. Declined Biodiversity
7.Environmental Hazards
physical processes that occur
naturally in the environment.
These include natural disaster
events such as earthquakes,
tornadoes, volcanoes,
blizzards, landslides, and
droughts
Physical hazards
Chemical hazards
can be both natural and human-
made chemicals in the
environment. Human-made
chemical hazards include many of
the synthetic chemicals we
produce, like disinfectants,
pesticides and plastics. Some
chemical hazards occur naturally in
the environment, like the heavy
metals lead and mercury.
• Biological hazards /Biohazards
biological substances that pose
a threat to the health of living
organisms, primarily that of
humans. This can include
medical waste or samples of a
microorganism, virus or toxin
(from a biological source) that
can affect human health.

when you live close by.
2. Bringing your own bags to the grocery store.
3. Using dynamite in fishing
4. Illegal mining
5. Throwing garbage in the river

7. Burning plastics.
8. Apply the 3 R’s method, Reduce, Reuse and
Recycle.
9. Fertilize plants with chemicals.
10.Videoke until 12 midnight in your neighbourhood
Individual Activity:
Essay writing. If you were given a chance to be Mother Earth, you will write Thank
you Letter or a letter of sentiments of what you want to say to the humans. Follow
the given template in writing your letter.
