"Here Comes The Judge" - Should Christians Judge Others?
 Sermon on the Mount:
Jesus strikes at the heart of
  pride, arrogance & hypocrisy.
 The Context: The Lord
  teaches on the character,
  influence, righteousness and
  priorities of the kingdom
  citizen.
 The Text: The method you
use in judging others will be
  the same method used in
  judging you –
Matthew 7:1-6 (NKJV)
1 "Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For

with what judgment you judge, you will be
judged; and with the measure you use, it will
be measured back to you. 3 And why do you
look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do
not consider the plank in your own eye? 4 Or
how can you say to your brother, 'Let me
remove the speck from your eye'; and look, a
plank is in your own eye?
Matthew 7:1-6 (NKJV)
5 Hypocrite! First remove the plank from
your own eye, and then you will see
clearly to remove the speck from your
brother's eye. 6 Do not give what is holy
to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before
swine, lest they trample them under
their feet, and turn and tear you in
                   pieces.
"Judge not, that you be not judged.

      Wise Discrimination Essential
                Understood In Everyday Life
 Voting . . . How people need to learn how to do it better!
 Courts . . . Some would do away with police officers,
  attorneys, and judges!
 Business . . . Who to hire, which job to take, who to fire . . .
 Religion . . . Being gullible, lazy and indifferent are not
qualities of the spiritual truth seeker!
Scriptures Require That We Distinguish Between Right &
         Wrong, Truth & Error, Good & Evil . . .
"Judge not, that you be not judged.

     Wise Discrimination Essential
        Not By Appearance, But Righteousness

                      John 7:24 (NKJV)
24 Do not judge according to

                 appearance, but judge with
                    righteous judgment."
Scriptures Require That We Distinguish Between Right &
         Wrong, Truth & Error, Good & Evil . . .

            The Spiritual Tests All Things

                   1 Corinthians 2:15 (NKJV)
15 But he who is spiritual judges all

things, yet he himself is rightly
                      judged by no one.
Scriptures Require That We Distinguish Between Right &

     Wise Discrimination Essential
             Wicked Men To Be Identified
                     1 Corinthians 5:12 (NKJV)
12 For what have I to do with judging

those also who are outside? Do you
not judge those who are inside?

Scriptures Require That We Distinguish Between Right &
         Wrong, Truth & Error, Good & Evil . . .
"Judge not, that you be not judged.

     Wise Discrimination Essential
             Wicked Men To Be Identified
                       Romans 16:17 (NKJV)
17 Now I urge you, brethren, note those

                 who cause divisions and offenses,
contrary to the doctrine which you
                     learned, and avoid them.
Scriptures Require That We Distinguish Between Right &
         Wrong, Truth & Error, Good & Evil . . .

     Wise Discrimination Essential
              Test The Teaching of Men
                         1 John 4:1 (NKJV)
1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit,

but test the spirits, whether they are of
God; because many false prophets have
                      gone out into the world.
Scriptures Require That We Distinguish Between Right &
         Wrong, Truth & Error, Good & Evil . . .
"Judge not, that you be not judged.

     Wise Discrimination Essential
              Test The Teaching of Men
                           Acts 17:11 (NKJV)
11 These were more fair-minded than those in

Thessalonica, in that they received the word
with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures
daily to find out whether these things were so.

Scriptures Require That We Distinguish Between Right &
         Wrong, Truth & Error, Good & Evil . . .
"Judge not, that you be not judged.

     Wise Discrimination Essential
            God’s Word Has Identified Sin
                        1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (NKJV)
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not

inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived.
Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor
homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor
covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor
extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
Scriptures Require That We Distinguish Between Right &
         Wrong, Truth & Error, Good & Evil . . .
"Judge not, that you be not judged.

 We live in a day in which people hate
moral and theological absolutes - (2
   Tim. 4:2-4; 2 John 3:13)
 We live in a day in which people are
being sucked down the moral sewer of
sin – Where are those who have the
courage to stand up and say “This is
   WRONG?”
 It is NOT unloving to call sin – sin – it
   is unloving NOT to -
"Judge not, that you be not judged.

        Leviticus 19:17-18 (NKJV)
17 'You shall not hate your brother in

your heart. You shall surely rebuke
your neighbor, and not bear sin
because of him. 18 You shall not take
     vengeance, nor bear any grudge
against the children of your people,
but you shall love your neighbor as
         yourself: I am the LORD.
"Judge Not, That You Be
     Not Judged”
       Presumptively -
       Hastily or rashly -
       Unmercifully -
       Magisterially -
       Hypocritically -
The Model
                    Luke 6:35-45 (NKJV)
35 But love your enemies, do good, and lend,

hoping for nothing in return; and your reward
will be great, and you will be sons of the Most
High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil.
36 Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also

is merciful. 37 "Judge not, and you shall not be
judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be
condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
Do not consider another insignificant or unworthy of mercy –
Do not seek the destruction of another – seek reconciliation –
The same method you use will come back to you!
Luke 6:35-45 (NKJV)
38 Give, and it will be given to you: good

measure, pressed down, shaken together, and
running over will be put into your bosom. For
with the same measure that you use, it will be
measured back to you." 39 And He spoke a
parable to them: "Can the blind lead the blind?
Will they not both fall into the ditch?
Luke 6:35-45 (NKJV)
40 A disciple is not above his teacher, but

everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his
teacher. 41 And why do you look at the speck in
your brother's eye, but do not perceive the plank
in your own eye? 42 Or how can you say to your
brother, 'Brother, let me remove the speck that is
in your eye,' when you yourself do not see the
plank that is in your own eye?
Luke 6:35-45 (NKJV)
Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your
own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove
the speck that is in your brother's eye. 43 "For a
good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad
tree bear good fruit. 44 For every tree is known by
its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from
thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble
                        bush.
Luke 6:35-45 (NKJV)
45 A good man out of the good
treasure of his heart brings forth
good; and an evil man out of the evil
treasure of his heart brings forth
evil. For out of the abundance of the
       heart his mouth speaks.
"Judge Not, That You Be
     Not Judged”
      “If you harshly judge
      others, then you can
      expect to be harshly
     judged by the Judge of
         all” – [Hare, 77]
"Judge Not, That You Be
     Not Judged”
        “A hypercritical, hypocritical
disease of the soul that constantly
finds fault with what others say
and do. It is the attitude of the
      critic who “arrogantly assumes a
superiority that entitles him or her
to assess the failings of others,”
                   [Hare, 76]
James 2:10-13 (NKJV)
10 For whoever shall keep the

whole law, and yet stumble in one
point, he is guilty of all. 11 For He
     who said, "Do not commit
   adultery," also said, "Do not
murder." Now if you do not
  commit adultery, but you do
   murder, you have become a
      transgressor of the law.
James 2:10-13 (NKJV)
12 So speak and so do as
  those who will be judged
by the law of liberty. 13 For
judgment is without mercy
to the one who has shown
no mercy. Mercy triumphs
       over judgment.
James 4:11-12 (NKJV)
11 Do not speak evil of one

   another, brethren. He who
speaks evil of a brother and
judges his brother, speaks evil
of the law and judges the law.
But if you judge the law, you
are not a doer of the law but a
              judge.
James 4:11-12 (NKJV)
                        12 There
                               is one
                  Lawgiver, who is able
                  to save and to destroy.
                   Who are you to judge
                         another?
                (James 3:13-18)
15This wisdom does not descend from above,

but is earthly, sensual, demonic. . . .
“Why Do You Look?”
 Because of our iniquity –
  Mat. 7:3; Rom. 2:1-3;
 Because of our insecurity –
  Luke 18:9-14; 2 Cor. 10:12
 Because of our ignorance –
  1 Cor. 4:3-5; Prov. 18:13; Rom. 14
 Because of our insensitivity –
  Luke 19:10; Rom. 9:1-3; 10:1-3
We Bring Condemnation
    Upon Ourselves
 If we seek to condemn,
  belittle, or discard others as
  insignificant -
 If we condemn others while
  we ourselves harbor sin in
  our hearts -
 If we are unmerciful in our
  dealings with others -
 We must engage in honest &
  Serious introspection – 2
  Cor. 13:5
 Correcting our own sinful
  actions and attitudes so we
  can effectively help others –
  Gal. 6:1-3
 We need Sufficient humility
  to deal patiently with others
  – Titus 3:2,3
Judgments Must Be Made
 With Love and Mercy
 With Knowledge of God’s Law,
 With Knowledge of Circumstances -
  (not presumption)
 With Substantial Evidence -
  Without Prejudice –
 With The Understanding That
Whatever Standard I Use – The
Same Will Be Used Against Me.
"Judge Not, That You Be
     Not Judged”
     In all our dealings with
        others, we need to
    remember that we are not
       agents of the Lord's
      judgment, but of His
             salvation.
Acts 17:30-31 (NKJV)
30 Truly, these times of ignorance God

overlooked, but now commands all men
everywhere to repent, 31 because He has
appointed a day on which He will judge the
world in righteousness by the Man whom
He has ordained. He has given assurance of
this to all by raising Him from the dead."
 He knows our sins –
 He knows our capabilities
  & shortcomings –
 He knows our heart –
 He knows our attitude –
 Do you need the Lord’s
  mercy and forgiveness?
