2. High Speed Train Development
Bangkok was selected as the main terminal
for all routes because of its central context nature.
All routes radiated from Bangkok to
• the North (Chiang Mai),
• the North East (Nong Khai and Ubon Ratchathani)
• the East (Chanthaburi and Aranyaprathet)
• the South (Padang Besar)
were included in the ultimate plan in Year 2032.
In year 2017, the demand analysis suggested that the ridership of high
speed train in all routes would be as high as 153,000 trips per day or
as similar to the ordinary train service presently.
3. Technologies:
• Trackwork: UIC60 Standard Gauge (1.435 m)
• Power Supply: 25kV Overhead Caternary System (OCS)
• Full Automatic Train Protection (ATP)
• Communication: Fiber Optic and Wireless Technologies (at least STM16 Level)
• Fully Fencing with Pedestrian Bridge or Tunnel
• No Level Crossing: road – rail intersections are replaced by grade-separation
(road overpass)
• Maximum speed at least 250 km/hr.
• Running on the new dedicated tracks
has been proposed.
• Typical section is at-grade embankment.
• UIC-60 standard gauge rail.
4. In order to minimize the investment cost,
The alignment is mainly kept inside
the Right-of-Way of State Railway of Thailand (SRT)
with some land acquisition as necessary.
Baring slab is used in soft soil areas.
