IntroductionThe last two years spent in high school are a couple of the of most important years for a young student. What we are presenting to you today is valuable information that you will be able to carry with you for the rest of your life. The goal of this presentation is to convey crucial information to you regarding high school life.
Make good first impressions, especially on teachersThe impressions you make during the first week of school affect your entire high school careerTeachers talk to each other and remember namesDon’t be a class clownAsk questions after classMake yourself known
Be yourselfBe your own man. Don’t follow. Lead.If people don't like you the way you are, too bad. Keep it movin’The chances of you still seeing and hanging out with your high school friends in college are very slim.
Don't give into peer pressureYou are smart and know what’s right, don’t let someone get in your head.Do you, if people want to do drugs or drink, don’t hate, just do you.Only participate in something if you WANT to. If you're curious, as us. Remember, it's your life, your high-school years. Do what YOU want to do
Try to make some friendsIts never to early to networkWatch the company you keep, you can be guilty by association.Join clubs ,sports teams, band. EtcAlways remember, your friends in high school may not be the same in college.Talk to EveryoneNETWORKYou never know who’s help you will needDon’t try and fit into a certain “group” be yourself.
Talk to EveryoneYou never know who’s help you will needDon’t try and fit into a certain “group” be yourself.NETWORKAccept ChangeAccept change in yourselfDo not try to prevent change
Be involved in some sort of extracurricular activity and after school activitiesCrossroads, sports, clubs etc.Looks good on your resume. Helps get you to college if your grades aren’t outstandingStaying busy keeps you active and out of “trouble”
Do not procrastinateNever the best thing to do; even if you work better under pressureBuild good habits early, makes things much easier for you in the futureThe sooner you get things done, the more time you will have to do the things you like to do.
Be organizedVery important trait to establish not only for school but for yourselfKeep your notes, worksheets, homework and test scores all organized in a binder for each class. Or maybe two classes in one binder.Think about your future. College.
Eat breakfast and lunchYour brain/body needs energy to perform, your brain is a muscle like any other. It needs fuelIt's a scientifically proven fact that the average high-school student performs better on a healthy meal as opposed to an unhealthy meal, and especially no meal at all.April 1, 2011A study in the Environmental Health Journal indicates that having a regular breakfast is associated with lower blood lead levels in children. In the study, children who ate breakfast had 15% lower blood lead levels than those who skipped breakfast.
GPAA good GPAGPA (grade point average) is one of the most important factors for college admission. Aim for a high GPA and get as many A’s as you can. Tests, Exams and Homework are critical to your GPA
Do your HomeworkComplete your homework and turn it in on time! The difference between an A and a B or a B and C may depend on homework. Usually they are easy points, so don’t neglect them. Complete the homework to the best of your abilities .Make sure you understand every part of your homework and hold onto themTake advantage of Extra Credit, Participation and Class workThese should be easy points and grade boosters. Extra credits are helpful because they can make up for any missed points. In other words, extra credit can only increase your overall grade.
StudyTake studying seriously, review your notes.… don’t just pretendBuild productive habits that will help advance you later in lifeBeing smart is your ticket to wealth; take advantage of your youth.
Time Management Tips Make a to-do list for your tasksUse spare minutes wiselyIt’s ok to say noFind the right time to accomplish somethingReview your notes every day-even on SundayGet a good night’s sleep before next days classes
Time Management TipsCommunicate your schedule to othersBecome a taskmastersDon’t waste time agonizing-just do it Determine your Priorities
High School DatingDevelop your own personality. Pick someone you have something in common with.Don't think you can change a leopard's spots.Separate your relationship from your school responsibilities.Include your parents. Until you are 18 and move out of your house, your parents have final say in what you do and don't do.
High School Dating Continued 6. Avoid gossip. While you can't avoid your friends, you can't include them in every aspect of your relationship7. Communication is Key8. Don't push your boundaries, and don't let anyone else cross them. If you don't know what the boundaries are in your relationship, establish them before you end up in an uncomfortable situation.9. Don't become obsessed. Remember that after high school, life changes dramatically.10. Don't alienate your friends. It is so easy to become so engulfed in a significant other that friends just don't seem as fulfilling anymore
