Project 1 – DSRS (Document Storage and Retrieval systems) Project Summary Company – DCM Data Systems, Mumbai Customer Details – Unit Trust of India – Largest Mutual fund and AMC in India Team size - 10 Role – Implementation Lead (Solution) Size in Rs . – 2.75 crore Project Duration – 3 months Approach – Geographical phase wise implementation Solution Partners – Integra Microsystems, Bangalore for Document Storage and retrieval system Architecture – Client – Server architecture Programming platform – VB as Front End GUI development, Server components MS C++ and VB for Back End GUI. Backend Database- Oracle 7.3.2 Business Benefits UTI was using Microfilm based record management system in order to store images of KYC records and other compliance records as per SEBI and AMFI guidelines. Microfilms were expensive for large customer base (100 million customer) Project involved migrating data from Microfilm based images (Extract of Microfilm image as batch upload) as well as storing new records in DSRS system. UTI phased out Microfilm machines to save CAPEX for new locations(15) as well as OPEX on existing locations (40). Microfilm system was single user and retrieval was manual and cumbersome where as DSRS system is multi user system with multiple access across the LAN network. Challenges Faced Delay and SNR (Site not Ready) - Due to lack of awareness user and local IT personnel causing delays due to site and micro film data extract preparedness. It was handled by arranging awareness session by central team and IT training by vendors at regional level. Additional responsibility of DSRS backup was not allocated to local office bearer which created data loss at several locations.

Project 2 – Debit Card ATM Services for a private Bank Project Summary Employer – a private Bank, Mumbai Role – IT Manager /Project Manager (ATM and SWIFT) Size in Rs . – 5 crore investment in 3 year period (CAPEX+OPEX) Project Duration – 5 months Project Lifecycle - Design, Customization, Integration, Roll out Roll out Approach – Geographical phase wise implementation Sola privateon Partners – TANDEM inc, TSA’s ACI Worldwide Inc. Implementation and Outsourcing Partners - FSS, Opus Bank Automation Software Vendor – TCS, India Architecture – Client – Server architecture Host Database- Oracle 7.3.2 Middleware – ISO8583 Message exchange ATM switch and Bank Host (ISBS). TCS vendor for ISBS was not having ATM switch interface module, so Linkx was the middleware designed and developed. Business Benefits Beat Competition : a private bank started in 1995 and wanted to go aggressive in capturing business. Existing ATM service was local to branch. Retail banking strategy to beat competition was to offer any where branch (AAA) banking services on ATM channel. Increase Assets – During pre Y2K phase, offering AAA banking was considered as killer to competition. Due to this project, branch personnel were able to capture more customer base and increased deposit based in next three quarters by 12%. Innovation – Retail product managers were able to create new ATM card products and improved customer services from Any Time to Any Where. Challenges Faced Delays due to Integration issues – First time in India as well Asia, NCR and Diebold ATMs were going live with BASE24 on TCP/IP and technical issues on integration delayed the project. Banking vendor was also integrating LINKX middleware on message queue Unix IPC for the first time. Reconciliation – Due to distributed database of customer at Banking hosts, ATM cash transaction reconciliation need to be strengthen up for risk management, charge backs. Cost – Y2K testing and compliance for LINKX, TANDEM and BASE24 was costly and local partners and IT team tighten belt to cut cost and test it locally.

Project 3 – HMAStar MBB Switch (Middleware) Project Summary Employer – HMA Starware Pvt. Ltd, Mumbai Role – Project Manager (Software Projects) Size in Rs . – 4 crore investment in 1 year period Project Duration – 9 months Project Lifecycle - Design, Customization, Integration, Roll out Roll out Approach – Geographical phase wise implementation Solution Partners – TATA INFOTECH for Networking. TBA (Total Branch Automation Vendors) – TCS, NextStep, VBS Architecture – Client – Server architecture Host Database- Oracle 7.3.2 for signature storage as BLOB, Btree – Ctree for Switch transactions Middleware – HMA Star Switch is message router with message brokers for StarTeller, Channels (ATM,Telebanking,Net Banking etc.) Business Benefits Beat Competition : PSU Bank is leading PSU bank with geographical spread across all the 26 states in India. Bank need to gear up against private banks offering AAA/MBB Banking and other products. Bank went for aggressive plan for providing ATM as well as branch banking using Card and Signature based authorisation. Increase Assets – Post Y2K stage bank wanted to capture new customers using new products such as MBB – Multi Branch Banking. It helped the bank to increase it’s deposit base and advances. Innovation – Retail product managers were able to create new ATM card products and signature based products such as Cheque and DD based transactions, pension processing and cash management. Challenges Faced Delays due to Integration issues – TBA vendors were not gear up for such advance functionalities and HMA does not have any business relationship with them. TBA vendors were governed by the Bank and Bank’s IT team were not able to generate output from them. Regular status review and escalations helped to ensure TBA co-operation. Reconciliation – Due to distributed database of customer at Banking hosts, ATM cash transaction reconciliation need to be strengthen up for risk management, charge backs. Bank had bigger concern about Branch transactions going high in volumn and values. HMA developed transaction reconciliation module to ensure any transactions lost in network/systems can be flagged and taken care. Cost – Project delayed due to frequent changes in design and risks foreseen by IT and HMA team . Roll out were affected as TBA host need to update code for it’s Interface for MBB.
