Hi, in our group we decided to do Homelessness as our
service project. We wanted to spread awareness, so
that people know what is happening in the outside world
is not as good as we think it is. Reality hits hard for
many people out there. We just can’t see that most
times. It’s not all puppies and rainbows.
-Keyla,Bri, and Juli
Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is an annual program
where people come together from across the country to draw
attention to the problems of hunger and homelessness. Participating
groups spend the week holding a series of educational, service,
fundraising, and advocacy events.
Informational Data
Home
Almost six hundred thousand people were homeless on a certain
day in 2018. This number represents 17 out of every 10,000 people
in the United States.
Most people who experience homelessness are individuals (67
percent) who are living on their own. The remainder (33 percent)
are people in families with children. Pacific Islanders and Native
Americans are most likely to be homeless in America when
compared to other races. But at this current moment, there are
half a million people who are experiencing homelessness.

others have been living like this.
Shelters
Home
Public homeless shelters were created in 1983 when homelessness had begun to be more
common. Homeless shelters provide a temporary residence for both homeless individuals and
families. These shelters are made to insure the safety and protection of others. But some
homeless shelters only let you stay for certain periods of time. But while people are in a
homeless shelter, they have to find work and take care of themselves.

Conclusion
In conclusion, homelessness is a very serious topic that more
people should be aware of. A lot of people don’t know of this
topic which is very sad so we hope that this helped inform
you about homelessness.
