Homeostasis refers to the tendency of organisms to maintain stable internal conditions. In plants, homeostasis is achieved through processes like osmoregulation, thermoregulation, and excretion. Osmoregulation allows plants to regulate water levels through the opening and closing of stomata controlled by guard cells. Thermoregulation enables plants to adapt to low and high temperatures through changes to cell membranes and metabolic processes. Excretion removes excess water, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and ions from plants. Together these mechanisms maintain stable conditions internally to support plant health.
