1. Find a picture of an animal you feel could represent you. For example:
2. Draw a careful copy of the head of the animal you have chosen. Make sure your
drawing fills the page. Use plenty of shading and colour if you have any at home. Also
collect images of your animal’s head from different angles.

Level 4: A good likeness and 4 separate tones.
Level 5: At least 6 different tones and mark making that shows the texture of the animal’s fur or skin. Show a side and front
view.
Level 6: Fill the page, show 8 different tones- use shading to create an illusion of depth. Draw a side and front view.

DUE: NEXT LESSON
1. Draw two different colour designs based on two different cultures i.e. Egyptian, Roman, Islamic.
TIP: Start by drawing out the basic design in pencil first and then apply pen to the outline and fill with
colour or paint – Level 4 -5 – use a simpler pattern, Level 6-8 – research and use a more complicated
pattern
2. Make two colour drawings of different animal pot / canopic jar designs, one of which will be used as
the basis for your final pot.
Your design should include colour and the features that you are hoping to imprint onto your clay pot.
Those of you aiming for a Level 6-8 draw two different angles of your pot.
In your sketchbook, decorate a whole page with lots of different information and drawings about the Egyptian tradition
of animal mummification and the making of Canopic Jars. For help go to the Fortismere MLE Canopic jar homepage to

(a) At least 4 drawings of different decorated Canopic Jars or Egyptian symbols that help support your text
(b) Write out and answer the following five questions in your sketchbook:
i) What is mummification?
ii) Why did the Egyptians mummify animals?
iii) What were the most common pets mummified?
iv) What happend to Prince Tutmosis when he died?
v) If you have to mummify one particular animal, what would it be and why?
Please make sure that you present your homework creatively in your sketchbook.
