• Hospital Pharmacy: A specialized department in a
hospital responsible for procurement, preparation,
storage, dispensing, and distribution of medicines.
• Operated under a qualified hospital pharmacist.
• Involves inpatient & outpatient pharmaceutical
services.
Functions of Hospital Pharmacy
• Procurement of medicines & medical
supplies
• Storage under proper conditions
• Compounding & manufacturing
• Dispensing to inpatients/outpatients
• Quality control & testing
• Distribution to wards/departments
Organization Structure
Location & Accessibility
• Within hospital premises for quick access
• Ideally on the ground floor near outpatient
department (OPD)
• Easy access for wards, emergency rooms,
and supply chain
