Physical properties like mass and volume can be used to identify matter. Mass is measured using a balance and volume is measured using a graduated cylinder. Density, which is the ratio of mass to volume, can also be used and is calculated by dividing the mass by the volume. Common units for measuring these properties include grams, kilograms, milliliters, liters and cubic centimeters. Other physical properties include color, shape, texture, state, and abilities to transfer heat and conduct electricity.
