How do you Attract and address our audience? For Elizabeth's Diary we did this using four simple effects: Our Actress The use of the Diary and the story it holds The use of Blood and gory effects And the realism behind the storyline
The actress used: In our piece we decided that one of the main selling points was going to be the actors and actresses used. We wanted to use an actress who would fit the part and could be a disturbed mentally sick person yet still be attractive from a young male point of view. Considering we have aimed our film at 16 - 25 year olds we decided to use Petrie Kimber (a young 18 year old actress) who would attract the younger male audience. Although in our opening sequence we don’t see anything but her feet, Petrie will be commonly used through the full film.
The use of a Diary Another important aspect to our film that will help attract and address the audience important usage of a diary. This will be the main selling point of the film, as a form of advertising we would use the diary, and we would hide the stories written inside the diary, so when the movie was released, people would watch it purely to find out the stories. I got this idea from the marketing campaign they used in the dark knight and how they hid the story of how the joker got his scars, are the why so serious question. Another reason hwy the diary would attract an audience is because people can relate to it. These days it is very common to find teenagers girls keep diaries. Because of this it may attract a younger female audience.
The use of blood and Gory effects One of the major reason that an audience goes to watch a thriller is because of the blood and gory effects used. Elizabeth's diary has no shortage of this. Throughout the film people are dying horrible deaths, and even in the opening sequence, a hanging takes place, and there are distraught pictures everywhere and blood all over the walls. People will come to watch the film purely to watch this. In the adverts for the film we would tease people by showing them a small amount of blood and gore, to tempt them into viewing the actual film. An example of a film being successful due to the blood and gory effects are the Saw films. Throughout each one of these films there is a constant supply of blood, torture and gory effects. The main reason why they have been so widely viewed.
The realism behind the story line One of the main selling points of the film would be the story line. We have tried to relate the story line to real live events which have recently happened and have been in the news on in documentaries. For example one of the main stories that we got our idea off was the story about the group of Bridgend kids who committed suicide due to bullying and drugs. Teenagers around the world will also come to watch the film because they can relate to the stories we use and the feelings that Elizabeth experiences throughout. An example of films which relate to issues that relate to issues that teenagers are facing commonly are Boys don’t cry, London to Brighton and Girl interrupted.
