How Did You Use Media Technologies?
- 1. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? The Blog When creating our products, we regularly updated our group blog. We all followed a main page and this allowed us to see any tasks that needed completion and also the next stage in our work. More importantly, on our own pages, we uploaded sections of our work after completion as this allowed us to see clearly the work that we had done and the work that still needed doing. It also allowed us to see that our work progressed effectively towards our final products.
- 2. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? The Internet We also used the internet in all four stages of our work; construction, research, planning and evaluation. We mainly used the internet during the research and planning stages as this helped us to research the conventions of music videos in our chosen genre and also what professionals felt made a successful video. We also used the internet during the evaluation stage of our production as we gathered some of our audience feedback from the video sharing site, Youtube, and the social networking site Facebook. We also created a blog to upload all our work onto so that we had a step by step production process.
- 3. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? Youtube and Facebook We decided to upload our finished product on to the popular video sharing site Youtube as this would be another, less time consuming way to gather audience feedback. However, once our video had been uploaded, we found that many people who fell into the category did not have an online account and needed one to comment on the video.
- 4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? Because of this limitation, we also decided to upload the video onto our Facebook accounts as many of the people who did not have a Youtube account, had an account on this site. We were then able to gather audience feedback from many more people as we received many comments on both sites.
- 5. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? The filming equipment When filming our music video we used a handheld video camera and also a tripod. The video camera was used normally (as handheld equipment) when we were creating shots that would give the audience the feeling of being at the party, being a part of what is happening. The tripod was used for many of the still shots of the band and the audience as we believed using the tripod made the shots look much more professional and also showed that we had taken time and care over our music video.
- 6. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? The Digital Camera When beginning to construct and research our product we took many pictures of different locations and settings to see how they would look on film and also to see which one we would prefer to use. Using the digital camera also enabled us to experiment with different lighting, both natural and artificial. We looked at the effects bright light had on our setting late at night and also the effects that dim light had on our interior setting. We chose to use contrasting light; bright outdoors and dim indoors, because we wanted to ensure that the focus of our audience was solely on the band.
- 7. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? Macs and iMovie We used the Apple Mac computers as our main way of editing the video, using the iMovie software. This enabled us to create a music video that included shots at different speeds to anchor the idea of the unpredictable and hyperactive personality of the band and also enabled us to include certain sections of diegetic audio in the video along with the soundtrack, as this again gave the video a more realistic feel.
- 8. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? This is a still shot of the tools we used to create fast paced shots within our music video and also how to create effects during the transitions between scenes. This screenshot shows a transition loading once it has been placed in the time bar of the video. You can also see that the transitions themselves overlap the two clips that they link together.
- 9. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? Photoshop We mainly used Photoshop when we were creating our two ancillary products; the magazine advert and the digipak. When creating the digipak, we needed to do a lot of editing to try and create an album cover that was unique, would catch the audiences eye, as well as creating a digipak that is memorable to the target audience. We also used Photoshop for the magazine advert, and this was again to ensure that the advert would easily capture the audiences eye and draw their attention to it.
- 10. In this screenshot you can see many of the text options such as size, alignment and colour. These were very important when creating our ancillary products as we needed our final products to be aesthetically pleasing and easy to read so as to make them more successful. In this screenshot you can see the tool palette. If you left click on many of the tools and extra menu will appear giving you different options for that specific tool.
