How many steps does an average
person takes a day?
Case study
Introduction
Walking is simple, free and one of the easiest ways to get
more active, lose weight and become healthier but every
wondered
● How many steps do you take a day?
● How many steps we take for a week or a month?
Its more than actually you have ever imagined
Objective of the study
To analyse how many steps and distance does
a person cover in a day, week and month.
Limitations of this study:
● This data collected for this study is only from one
subject using the Moto 360.
● Analysis is taken from approximately 16 hours a day.
● Few days will have zero reading as the Moto 360 was
not used.
Moto 360
Moto 360 tracks your daily steps
and distance. In addition to this, it
also calculates the calories you
burn, whether you’re active or at
rest.
Methodology of the study
All data from this study is taken from Moto 360
which the subject wears (including at home) for
approximately 16 hours a day.
Profile of the subject
● Gender: Male
● Age: 27 yrs
● Height: 164 cms
● Weight: 52.5 kgs
● Body Mass Index: 19.52
● Step Length*: 63 cms (approximately)
● Known diseases or sickness: None
● Country: United Kingdom
*Step Length is explained on the next slide
What is a step length and how to measure it?
Step length is the distance between the point of initial contact of one foot and
the point of initial contact of the opposite foot. In contrast, stride length is the
distance between successive points of initial contact of the same foot.
The distance of the step length depends on how many steps you take
Example: If your step length is 60 cm and the Moto 360 (or any pedometer)
has recorded 6,000 steps The distance calculation is 0.6 (60 cm) x 6000
(steps) = 3600 (meters) / 1000 (meter in a Km) = 3.6 km.
You have stepped 6000 steps which equates to 3.6 km.
