HOW MUCH FLUIDS TO GIVE FLUID THERPAPHY : FOR PREVENTION OF DEHYDRATION
Age  Volume of ( ORS) after Each stool <6 months  50 ml  ¼ glass 6 months  upto 2 years  50-100 ml  ½ glass  2 years and above  100-200 ml  1 glass Give more fluids than usual
PRINCIPLES OF MANAGEMENT Fluid replacement  Continued Feeding  Rational use of drugs
Fluid replacement : To prevent and treat dehydration  No dehydration  At home  ORS Dehydration  initially Hospital ORS Severe  dehydration  Hospital  Initial IV fluidtherapy, Later ORS
ASSESSMENT OF DEHYDRATION Signs of Dehydration ( Two or More signs including at least one Marked * ) Increased thirst  Restlessness, irritability Decreased skin turgor  Dry mouth and tongue  Tears absent  Sunken eyes Signs of severe dehydration: ( In addition  to above) Lethargic or unconscious, flophy Unable to Drink
