To activate Akismet, go to your WordPress personal settings and click the link to Akismet. Sign in with your WordPress account to authorize Akismet, then choose a payment option. Once payment goes through, copy the API key from the confirmation email and paste it into the Akismet settings on your WordPress plugins page to activate spam protection.

- 2. In your WordPress.com blog or account, go to ‘Users’ and select ‘Personal Settings’.
- 3. At the top of ‘Personal Settings’ you’ll find a direct link to Akismet.
- 4. Click on the ‘Get an Akismet API Key’ button.
- 5. Click on the ‘I already have a WordPress.com account!’ link (if you do have one).
- 6. Sign in with your username and password.
- 7. Authorize Akismet with your WordPress.com account.
- 9. Select how much you want to pay, and then fill in your bank details.
- 10. Once your payment transaction has gone through, check your email for one from Akismet. It will contain your Akismet API key.
- 11. Copy your Akismet API key and go to your Plugins > Installed Plugins page. Activate Akismet (which is automatically uploaded for you by WordPress) and click on ‘Settings’.
- 12. Here is where you paste in your Akismet API key and then click on the ‘Update options’ button.
- 13. Now Akismet is activated it will start protecting you from spam immediately.
