Speak to the Hiring Manager Directly
Do not waste your time leaving a message for the
front desk, administrative assistant or human
resource department. It is their job to screen the
applicants.

You want to speak directly to the individual hiring
for the job. They are the one feeling the stress of
not having that position filled yet and they are
the individual with the most detail about the
opening.
Most Contacts will be by Phone
Odds are you will be calling.

Ideally, you would go to the company, wait in the
reception area until the hiring manager is
available and then approach him/her requesting
an interview.

That is not always possible.
Voicemail
You will probably be directed to a voicemail. That
is understandable.

Anymore, most managers, directors and
department heads screen their calls via voicemail.

It may take a number of left messages before
getting a call back. Do not be discouraged.
You Gotta Try

This is not a guaranteed way of landing a
job; however, it is one method you should
                definitely try.
How to ask for a Job Interview

I suggest you write out a script and practice it
before you make your initial call.
Think of your resume and how you wanted to be
perceived.
It is important to incorporate how you want to be
seen to the hiring manager.
Show him/her you are dependable, hardworking,
efficient etc.
Be confident. Be Prepared. Be Good.

“Mr. Petersen, my name is Jesse Butler. XYZ Publishing
was referred to me as an exceptional company to be
working for. I am account executive with over 12 years of
experience between two companies. I have increased
sales for the last 7 years and have been awarded the
Salesman of the Year Award for my recent sales increase
of 43%. I am presently available and interested in
working for a quality organization such as yours.
I would like to meet with you as soon as possible. Please
call me at 123-456-7890. Again that was 123-456-7890. I
look forward to hearing from you. “
Voicemail Example

This voicemail example portrays the applicant as
a hardworking individual striving for continued
               self improvement.
It May Take More than 1 Call

Even though the hiring manager is stressed from
doing both his job and holding up the
responsibilities of the open position, he may not
get around to hiring the position as soon as
               he/she would hope.
It May Take More Than 1 Call

Leaving one voicemail may not be enough.
Remind the hiring manager you are available and
ready to relieve him/her of the extra work load.
Tell the hiring manager how you will benefit
                      them.
Follow Up Voicemail
“Mr. Petersen, my name is Jesse Butler. I am the
account executive with 12 years of experience. I
called last week to inquire about the account
executive opening. I would still like to get together
with you to discuss the position and how I could
increase your sales as I have my previous company.
I know you are extremely busy. Please call
when you have time available to meet. My number is
123-456-7890. Again that was 123-456-7890. I look
forward to hearing from you.”
Remember: Do not be afraid to ask.

You will never know if you don’t try.
