Prov. 22:29: “Do you see a man who excels in
his work? He will stand before kings; he will not
stand before unknown men.”
Can you tell the difference between an average
Christian and a Christian who excels?
How can we tell if we are average?
Christianity = “going to church” (Heb. 10:25)
II Tim. 2:15; Acts 2:46, 17:11; Eph. 4:22-32.
Draw near to God (James 4:8).
Work out our own salvation (Phil. 2:12-13).

Shoehorn spirituality around everything else
We are busy people in the 21st
century.
Do we seek God first (Matt. 6:33)?
Don’t get mad; get even
Turn the other cheek (Matt. 5:39, 44).
Do not seek personal revenge and bless those
who revile (Rom. 12:18-21; I Pet. 3:9).
Never confess our faults
Do we think it’s not anyone’s business?
James 5:16: Find supportive brethren.

Never forgive or apologize
Matt. 6:14-15: We forgive, God forgives.
Jesus prayed for God to forgive (Luke 23:34).
Make amends (Matt. 5:23-26).
Never change our thoughts
James 1:19: Quick to hear and slow to speak.
We can be wrong (Acts 18:24-28).
Decline to talk about spiritual things
Matt. 10:32-33: Confess Jesus.
Let your light shine (Acts 16:25-34).

 Don’t leave the boat
◦ Matt. 14:25-32: We can do the impossible with
the power of Christ.
◦ Are we willing to take chances, or do we just sit
back and do nothing?
◦ Matt. 25:14-30: What are you doing with the
talents God has given you?

As an excelling Christian or an average one?

 Believe (John 8:24; Mark 16:16; Hebrews 11:6)
 Repent (Acts 2:38; 3:19; 17:30)
 Confess (Romans 10:9-10; Matthew 10:32-33)
 Be baptized (Acts 2:38; 22:16; Mark 16:16)
 Live faithfully (Revelation 2:10; Matthew 6:33;
Romans 12:1-2; I Corinthians 15:58)
