Python Dominicana created a developer community to improve coding skills, meet people, and potentially start startups. They began by organizing biweekly Python meetups and connecting with other groups. Challenges included guiding speakers and planning, but the community grew organically by collaborating across languages and countries. Future goals include expanding meetups nationwide and opening hackerspaces.
