How Do Genre Affect The Culture Of Horror Films
From bloody massacres to demonic possessions, the genre of horror has come a long way, todays
horror movies have a variety of things in common with horror movies from the early 1900s.
Although horror movies have been around for decades, they ve changed through out the years.
From extreme gore and gushing blood to edge full suspenseful horror; horror movies have
different and unique styles. Described as an intense feeling of fear, shock, or disgust (Horror Film
History 2001). Horror is an ancient work of art that formally originated through story telling
amongst different cultures. The majority of horror films get their ideas or concepts through
ancient horror folk stories. German folklore had a huge impact on the genre of horror with its
explicit genre of gothic horror throughout the 1700s. German expressionism was a form of cinema
that rose across Europe showcasing distorted reality with the expression of emotion. A new genre
was born, silent films came around the early 1900s. With a black and white projector screening the

A Review Of Language Learning Skills Essay
A Review of Language Learning Skills in VoiceThread VoiceThread is a Web 2.0 tool, a cloud
application that gives users many options to communicate. Its unique features give users the
opportunity to communicate by microphone, webcam, text, phone, and audio file upload over a
period of time (VoiceThread, 2016). VoiceThread supports users ongoing communication, and it is
used by teachers in languagelearning classrooms. It aids language teachers by providing a platform
to present, submit, and evaluate language learning lessons and activities which are based on
language learning skills. Specifically, VoiceThread aids teachers when teaching language learning
skills such as listening, speaking, communicative competence and interaction. All of these skills are
equally important for the skilldevelopment of L2 English language learners, however, the ability to
utilize listening skills in this application is the foundation for language learners to respond, speak,
interact, and communicate using VoiceThread. In that sense, listening skills are necessary for
effective interactions in VoiceThread. Explicitly, learners need to use their listening skills in order
to understand and communicate with other learners in VoiceThread. Aisha Walker and Goodith
White echoes this idea when they list all of the listening skills that are needed to understand and
respond to a spoken message in their book, Technology Enhanced Language Learning: Connecting

Honey Spot Play Analysis
The media text Brisbane Tent Embassy battle goes on as Elder stands up for his sovereign rights by
the National Indigenous Times News and the play Honey Spot by Jack Davis both incorporate
themes of racism towards Indigenous Australians. The play deals with fictional events concerning
tension between Anglo Europeans and Indigenous Australianswhich are based on existing events,
such as the event described in the media text. This was about an Indigenous man who was arrested
for legally participating in his cultural practices, a theme which was touched on in the play also.
The two written texts both explore similar themes involving Indigenous rights and discrimination
against Indigenous Australians. Such similar themes are the traditional land use practices which the
Indigenous Australians aren t allowed to partake in, the conscious and subconscious racism
displayed by the Anglo Europeans, and how racial differences create issues in society.
Traditional land use practices consist of how Indigenous Australians use the land to practice their
culture. Both texts incorporate legal issues associated with particular Indigenous land use practices.

The Theme Of Wealth In The Lesson By Toni Cade Bambara
The biggest theme I found in The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara was poverty and wealth.
Throughout the story it is clear that Sylvia and the rest of the kids and their families are poor,
living in what seems to be the ghetto. Miss Moore is a young educated black women who tries to
show the Sylvia and the children that they, being part of a disadvantaged group, need to think
about the distribution of wealth in the United States. Sylvia is mostly angry throughout the whole
story. Sylvia towards the beginning and middle of the story doesn t enjoy Miss Moore and her trip

Maslow s Humanistic Approach Theory
Maslow s Humanistic Approach theory was based solely on what motivates people to reach our
highest potential. He believed that individuals have set motivation systems and individuals
achieve a set of needs by passing these motivation systems. Maslow believed these stages were
set in a hierarchal order and that the lowest system must be accomplished before moving up. He
believed there to be eight stages in his hierarchy. He believed that every person is capable to
move up the hierarchy as long as there basic needs are encountered and they have the desire to
reach the highest potential. According to Maslow, only a small percentage of the population
reaches the level of self actualisation (NetMBA, 2002). The first stage of Maslow s hierarchy...

she thought she found a man that met her standards, she would still end up hurt and would fall

Purpose:
The lab was performed for the purpose of calculating the density of each type of object and
determining if calculating the volume, and therefore the density, of two cubes can be more

1 Rock
2 Corks
2 Aluminum Cubes
4 Paper clips
2 Marbles
1 50 mL graduated cylinder
1 25 mL graduated cylinder
1 Calculator
1 Ruler
Procedure:
1.Weigh and record the mass of each pair of objects (only use one rock when measuring the mass
of the rock and use all four paper clips when measuring the mass of the paper clips) on a scale.
Place the marbles gently to ensure they do not roll off the scale.

Drug Prohibition – The solution that never worked Essay
Countries have been making drugs illegal over the years for varieties of reasons be it to combat a
perceived moral or health epidemic, to single out certain groups of people, or to reflect religious
influences. Even when some drugs do not present notable health dangers, governments ban them.
While there are many drugs that are unhealthy when abused, the drugpolicies around the world,
particularly the United States, are inconsistent and oppressive. Drug laws were supposedly created
for the good of society, but the prohibitionof drugs only serves to cause problems, violence, and
unrest. Starting from a historical standpoint, we can see that past endeavors to ban substances were
often motivated by discrimination and racism. Drug... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These deaths are due to drug wars and fights over territory between the various organized crime
groups, who get their business by trafficking drugs over the United States border. Their booming
business and death count directly depend on the prohibition of drugs to continue. Former US
narcotics officer Michael Levine worked undercover with some Colombian cocaine cartels and
talked about what he learned:
I learned that not only did they not fear our war on drugs, they counted on it to increase the
market price and to weed out the smaller, inefficient drug dealers. They found U.S. interdiction
efforts laughable. The only U.S. action they feared was an effective demand reduction program.
On one undercover tape recorded conversation, a top cartel chief, Jorge Roman, expressed his
gratitude for the drug war, calling it a sham put on for the American taxpayer that was actually good
for business (Lynch, 92).
Prohibition of drugs continues to allow organized crime to raise their death toll and make massive
profits. Further evidence on how prohibition can fail and give rise to crime is quite clear looking
back to the attempted prohibition of alcohol in the 1920s in the United States. The Volstead Act and
Eighteenth Amendment to the Constitution banned the sale of alcohol and caused much unrest
among the citizenry of the country. Widespread criminal

The Present Day College Admission Marketplace
The present day college admission marketplace in the United States is part of an extensive
historical evolution. In the 1920s, broadened public interest and the burgeoning of the credit
industry led to the first waves of democratization in the higher education arena (Kimball, 2011). The
subsequent professionalization and a growing pattern of stratification in the admissions
marketplace have seen institutions of all types using increasingly sophisticated mechanisms to
attract qualified applicants (Duffy and Goldberg, 1998). With the release of the first U.S. News

With the exception of the eligibility based model which champions entitlement and open access ,
the other three models are selective in nature in that students are compared against one another on
the basis of certain criteria before an admissions decision is made. The most common and basic
philosophy adopted by institutions is the performance based model, which judges applicants based
on their demonstrated performance prior to college. This model is advanced through two
approaches, meritocracy and character. The meritocracy approach views acceptance into an
institution as a reward for prior academic achievement, while the character approach focuses on
personal qualities such as resilience and civic virtue (the College Board, 2002). In addition, many
colleges also assess students based on their ability to benefit from higher education. The two
approaches under this theme include the enhancement approach and the mobilization approach. The
former is intended to identify and nurture talent while the latter promotes social and economic
mobility (the College Board, 2002). These approaches attempt to contextualize previous
accomplishments in light of the student s circumstances and accord value to unrealized potential.
The final philosophical model evaluates students based on their ability to contribute to the
institution and society if admitted, both in the short run and long run. In the short run,

Culture is what connects everyone to their roots and is what plays a great part of everyone s

Albania is a small country in Southeastern Europe. Also, Albanians are the Balkan people who

religions that have a great impact to their life. During the Ottoman rule in Albania, many Albanians

country. After this cultural experience and events that took place I was enlightened on the great
Albanian culture.
In order to discover the Albanian culture, my good friend Albi allowed me to come into his home

Organ Donation Is The Surgical Removal Of Organs Or A...
Organ donation is the surgical removal of organs or a tissue transplanted to another for the
purpose of exchanging a failed organ injured by disease or injury. Organs and tissues that can be
transferred are liver, kidneys, pancreas, heart, lungs, intestines, cornea, middle ear, skin, bone,
bone marrow, heart valves, and connective tissues. Each person regardless of age can consider
themselves a prospective donors. Before one dies, he/she is assessed to see if they might be
appropriate for organ donationbased on their medical history as determined by the Organ

There should be a call for stricter regulation of post mortem human tissue. It would seem obvious
that what is of paramount value in life would necessarily depreciate in death. This is not true of the
human body. With the emergence of biotechnology and the consequent need for post mortem
human tissue, the human cadaver has become quite valuable. In pieces and parts or in its entirety,
organizations will pay top dollar for the human body, even after it houses the human spirit.
Throughout history, civilizations have found uses for the bodies, organs and tissue of the dead. The
potential for the human cadaver is ever expanding. Since 1954, human organs have been
successfully transplanted into living recipients who would otherwise die. (Ranee Khooshie Lal
Panjab) Modern researchers use cadaver tissue to study physiological processes and conduct testing.
Clinicians restore transplant recipient functions through procedures that include skin grafts and
corneal transplants. Cadavers are essential to medical school anatomy classes, forensic experts
measuring body decomposition etc. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) organs
worldwide both are legal and illegal, but the use of the organ only decrease half of the actual need.
A particular heated debate has risen on the matter of legislative defaults on cadaveric organ
donation. In many countries, including the U.S., Great Britain, Germany and Austria, cadaveric

How Did Brutus Caesar Betray
Brutus is a betrayer who believed he was a true great. He let others persuade him to commit a
treasonous assassination when he could have simply done his own research. There are those
who feel Brutus was a patriot because he was willing to assassinate his own friend for the good
of a country. Brutus believed he knew what was right. He was easily manipulated by others who
viciously tricked him. In act 1 scene ii Cassius distracts Brutus with all the possible glory he could
receive. The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, But in ourselves, that we are underlings. Brutus
and Caesar: what should be in that Caesar ? Why should that name be sounded more than yours?
Write them together, yours is as fair a name; Sound them, it doth become the mouth as well; Weigh

Although I sometimes enjoy writing from an adult s perspective, I feel dedicated to the coming

life forever. I still remember what it is like to be twelve years old. This quote by Kimberly Willis

character of the novel, has to make decisions that change her life forever. While Marjane s world

By overcoming the challenges that inhibit her during the Revolution, she learns to stay true to
herself and mature into a woman. Marjane initially struggles with the Revolution in Iran,
because she fails to comprehend her role in it. To move past this struggle, Marjane has to
conquer a series of challenges which she does through reading and secretly smoking her first
cigarette. By overcoming these challenges, Marjane matures and learns a lesson that alters her
character profoundly and allows her to come of age. Marjane s coming of age can be related to
the development of the characters of Scout and Jem in To Kill A Mockingbird. Jem and Scout
also encounter a series of challenges, most importantly in trying to make contact with Boo
Radley, who generates hate from people in their town and presents a potential danger to society.
Similarly to Marjane, they learn to not blindly adhere to societal views and discover that Boo
actually cares for his people, but has trouble expressing his emotions. Thus, Marjane and Scout and
Jem come of age and learn to believe in themselves and stay true to their values just as Marjane

Cases of Overcoming Hardship
Hardship is something everyone must overcome at some point in their lives. Everyone deals
with hardships differently. It is harder for some people to recover from hardship because of their
family, friends, or even because they can t find the will within themselves to deal with hardships.
It would be easier for someone who is naturally determined and strong willed to overcome things
because they have a inbred ability to conquer their fears and leave behind whatever it was that was
making their life unbearable. If parents don t support their kids decisions, such as Jeannette going
to New York, then that can make it harder to triumph over things they struggle with. If friends don
t encourage someone to go on and make something better of themselves, they will hold them back
and they will be stuck in the life everyone expects them to live. Many parents support their children
to learn from their mistakes and make better choices than what they made when they were a kid and
even now. Friends can be a huge part in trying to get over things that they are struggling from. With
the right support and help from them it makes it that much easier to overcome hardships. The
person struggling must find it within themselves to be a better person each day. Not everyone has
the same chance of recovery, but that doesn t mean that they can t do it. They may just have to
worker harder, but that means the reward will be that much better. Jeannette started from the
bottom, in a small town with an

Romantic Emotionism In Alexander Pope s The Rape Of The Lock
Most of life s moments have little import. Each day often screams no more of significance than the
day preceding. There are a few moments throughout life that manage to contain, within themselves,
the power to change the course of one s life, but more often than not, the moments we give
importance to are fairly trivial events, changing or altering nothing more than any other day. We
find that those more common moments are created by culture, cultivated in a society that believes
that something about a day or a time though nothing significant changes, like birthdays demarking a
specific time on a continuum makes it special. This same brand of cultural elevation affects
physical features and infrequent, though insignificant still, actions. Alexander Popes The Rape of
the Lockcharts that influence in society and, with verse dripping with wit, questions what we
hold dear. The Rape of the Lock is written as a heroic Romantic poem, dealing in turns with
romance and violence. Canto Three is perhaps Pope s best encapsulation of Romantic passion in
the poem. The card game is told a conflict between semi personified cards and their players,
Belinda and the Baron. Pope seems to enthrall the reader when [t]he hoary Majesty of Spades
appears and pushes us to hold our breaths when [t]he Knave of Diamonds tries his wily arts, / and
wins (oh shameful chance!) the Queen of Hearts (56, 86 87). The cutting of Belinda s hairfollows
this, with the character, Clarissa, taking part to

Is Our Actions Against The British Government Justified
Our actions against the British Government led to the founding of our country. Is our acts almost
300 years ago justified? The answer is yes, but only if certain steps happen. If the Government
does something unlawful, or unjust, and then takes a violent turn against it s citizens, then a
rebellion is justified. In the case of the Revolutionary War, The British taxed almost everything.
Stamps, Rum, Tea, Marriage licenses, almost anything imaginable. This made the colonists angry,
with a good reason too. Having to pay extra on necessities is an outrage. Americans had a tough
time already as the Pure British people got extra privileges and specialties, just because they were

Ptolemaeus gave credit to those who came before him and laid the foundation for his work. People
and geniuses such as Aristole, Hipparchus, Menelaus of Alexandria, and Theon of Smyrna, were
some of his inspirations. Ptolemy s table of the lengths of chords in a circle is the earliest surviving
table of a trigonometric function. He also applied fundamental theorems in spherical trigonometry
(apparently discovered half a century earlier by Menelaus of Alexandria) to the solution of many
basic astronomical problems (Jones 2017). Ptolemy justified the former lie that everything revolved
around the earth. He used Aristotle s earth centered theory to defend this. In particular he
introduces trigonometrical methods based on the chord function Crd (which is related to the sine
function by sin a = (Crd 2a)/120). Ptolemy devised new geometrical proofs and theorems. He
obtained, using chords of a circle and an inscribed 360 gon, the

The Wife s Lament Essay
The Wife s Lament
Over the years, there have been many interpretations of who the speaker of The Wife s Lament
could be. These range from very interesting ideas to ones that seem a little rough around the
edges. It is obvious that no sure answer can be found due to the fact that whoever wrote this
poem is dead and that the answer will always be in speculation even if it is correct. Hopefully, at
the end of this quest I will be slightly more enlightened as to who the true speaker may really be.
There are some things that we do know about this poem. It is most often referred to as an elegy

like others of its time period. Many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have the right to say what miseries I have endured since I grew up, new or old never greater than
now. Even though this poem is relatively short, the vivid expression of grief is somewhat awe
inspiring.
The first interpretation of who the speaker is in The Wife s Lament is very shaky and not well
accepted among scholars and even the average reader. This interpretation is that the speaker may
be a male and not a female as we all believe. It was very common in Anglo Saxon times for the
lord of a group of people to be more to them than a ruler. Very often he would become a close
friend to his people and they loved him like family. The relationship between lord and man was
more than just a business arrangement and although they were working for the lord, he was
respected much like a father figure would be. The problem with this interpretation is that the
grammatical gender is feminine. This is the reason why everyone assumes that the speaker is a
female. Supporters of this reading of The Wife s Lament believe that somewhere along the line
of translating the poem the translator made a mistake and changed the gender of the speaker. As I
have already said, this interpretation is very rough around the edges and rather hard to believe. I
believe that if the speaker were male then there would be no real reason for his being exiled in this
fashion. It was not a custom for communities to allow foreigners in thus falsifying

The Theories Of Management That Organizations Can Use
There are many approaches to management that organizations can use. Managerial theories are
based on historical approaches or historical theories. Many organizations use more than one
approach that may or may not be effective. Several decades ago researchers were attempting to
explain the nature of managing from six different points of view: managementprocess, empirical
approach, human behavior, social system, decision theory, and mathematics theory.
The organization that I work for, the City of Lilburn, does not use just one approach to
management. One of the management approaches that the city uses is the social system approach.
Vilfredo Pareto, a sociologist, and Chester Barnard were the pioneers of this theory. Pareto came up
with the idea that human relationships were social systems (Koontz, 1980). His work made an
impression and influenced Chester Barnard.
Barnard, during his study, noticed executives operating in cooperative social systems that he
names organizations. Social systems are the cooperative interaction of ideas, forces, desires and
thinking of two or more people. This theory later was applied to many groups and cooperatives
(Koontz, 1980).
With this approach organizations are essentially a cultural system that is composed of people who
work in cooperation in order to achieve the organizations goals. Management needs to understand
the behavior of people in the groups in order for this approach to be affective. This approach relies

The setting of the story occurs in two different places, at a washed up beach where Snowman is

furthermore plays a tremendous role in illustrating the separation of the two main social classes.
The rich live in protected compounds, with top notch schooling, readily available food, and no
worries of a looming virus while the poor live in rundown, disease prone environments with low
paying jobs. Along with depicting the separation of the social classes, setting also reinforces the
theme of isolation. One quote referring to seclusion in the setting that really stood out to me was

Jack Welch s Transformation Case Study
When first looking at this article it is hard to pinpoint exactly what the core problem would be,
because the case study looks at the transformation created by Jack Welch over two decades. The
case study explains the changes made overtime that made the company become what it was by the
end of the two decade transformation. That leads readers to look at what could have had the most
impact on the company, and for this particular case study the impact came from the drastic changes
made by Welch when he became CEO in 1981. While the changewas not terrible there are ways to

Iceland is discovered in the mid ninth century by Scandinavian Sailors (Iceland). The first settler in
Iceland was IngЕЌlfur Arnarson who arrived in 874. Now you are probably wondering what idiot
Viking would name a green island Iceland. His name is FlГіki, this Scandinavian man failed at
living in Iceland, and as FlГіki disembarked he gave Iceland it s unfortunate name (Iceland).

Sociological Research On Social And Class Differences
Various statistical techniques are used in sociological research in order to study the social world.
These may include measures to describe data dispersion, as well as analytical methods such as
latent class analysis. Each technique can provide distinct approaches to answering a research
question, as they may emphasize specific factors or lead to different ways to structure results.
Consequently, it becomes particularly important to consider one s choice of measures and
methods, as depending on the ones used, both the conclusion itself and interpretations of it may be
affected, along with wider understandings of social reality. To begin, quantitative social research
will often employ statistical measures to determine the central tendency of a given dataset. These
measures, including mean, median, and mode, are used to calculate typical values of the center of
a probability distribution. Since they are focused on average values, measures of central tendency
are useful tools in understanding the typical situations or experiences of social groups. This makes
them especially helpful in understanding social inequality and class differences because they
facilitate comparison of data for multiple groups. For instance, to determine levels of economic
inequality in relation to gender, one could calculate the mean incomes of males and females in a
given city and compare them. However, it is crucial to consider the effects of these different
measures of central tendency, as the

Sexual Orientation Discrimination Everyone agrees that workplace discrimination has no place in
the modern business world. But not everyone understands the laws that protect employees against
discrimination. In this case, what you don t know can hurt you, especially if an aggrieved
employee files a discrimination claim. Definition According to an article published by Workplace
Fairness, a non profit organization that provides information and education on employee rights,
sexual orientation discrimination means treating someone differently solely because of his or her
sexual orientation whether it be homosexual, bisexual, or heterosexual. This discrimination may
occur because of a perception of someone whether the perception is right or wrong. Someone who
is discriminated against on the basis of sexual orientation may also be discriminated against or
harassed on the basis of sex, gender identity, disability, such as actual or perceived HIV status, and
/or marital status. This is very important to Human Resource Professionals because they are the
ones that make sure organization objectives are being met, and policies are being followed. It is the
Human Resource professionals that deal with staffing, compensation, safety and health, training and
development as well as employee and labor relations issues. Therefore if any situations in the
workplace occur

2) Why might Dixie Weaving employees choose not to cooperate with the consultants at this
stage in the project? The observations and interviews will mainly concern the content of the
jobs and the working conditions. Still observations will probably show how the employees are
fulfilling their job. As you can read in the story of the article a lot of the employees seem to be
disqualified to perform their work. A lot of the employees barely speak English and aren t
capable to perform their job effectively. So the employees are probably afraid that the observations
will show that their performance is weak. The employees can be afraid that the observations of

It is important we observe in an unobtrusive nature. 4) Do you agree or disagree with Joe and Ian
s time estimates for this diagnostic phase of the project. Why or why not? What factor would
you consider in developing an estimate? We feel that the time estimation of Joe and Ian is a bit
optimistic and more time might be necessary. We also believe that trying to fit all this
information gathering in to two weeks might have a negative effect on the work climate. This
because the gathering of this information may form an invasion in the daily routine of the
workers. Yet we think some time can be saved by trading in the informational interviews for
surveys. This can also provide the necessary information yet in a shorter period of time. Also the
documentation review should be limited to relevant information of only the affected departments.
The interviews with employees at multiple levels of the affected departments are of great
importance and for this reason not wise to rush or replace for a different technique. As well the
examination of the job description and training materials related to the positions in question as the
extended period of observation of the workers are of great importance. Both these processes
might lead to the cause of the struggles of Dixie weaving. This requires a lot of time and precision

The Game at the Arena Essay
Standing here, in this arena that is one hundred times larger than my home, I feel like a needle
in a haystack. So many people surrounding me it s like I m one grain of sand in a whole ocean.
The people around the arena form a black and yellow checker board. Their clothing meshes
together and looks like a throw. Smelling the concession stand makes me feel like a starving child.
The aroma of hotdogs and Italian sausage reminds me of a back yard grill. The smellof melted
cheese on nachos makes my stomach growl wishing I had some. I can taste the pretzels as a man
and child walk by me with one. The warm bread with coarse salt is delicious.
Then an announcer on a loud intercom yells for the players to come out. The roar of the crowd ...

I clap my hands with the other thousands of fans, and my hands feel greasy from the slice of
pizza I just finished eating. My mouth still has the tangy, saucy taste of pizza. I look down
towards the field where the players are lining up in their formations. Their brightly colored
uniforms stand out in the glare of the stadium lights. The field has a fresh mowed look, and the
screens are bright as the North Star. As the lady starts to sing the National Anthem, the crowd
falls do a dead silent, placing their hands on their chest and mouthing the words along with her.
The mass of people standing in the arena look as if they are mannequins strategically placed for
a photo. The lady finishes singing and the crowd resumes their jet like roaring. A man walks in
front of me, as he walks by a get a whiff of his cheap cologne mixed with stale beer and cigarette
smoke. Lucky to be me this man makes his way around to his seat that is directly to my right.
After the first ten minutes the smell was almost unnoticeable. The game comes to an end most
of the crowd wearing smiles and giggling like school girls, as if they had won the game
themselves. Few others scream and pout as they waddle down the stairs to their cars. The noise
has decreased greatly giving my ears a rest. The noise is now down to a dull roar, like a spring
breeze blowing around leafs. My feet and hands ache from being pounded for nearly three hours.

How Do Genre Affect The Culture Of Horror Films From bloody massacres to demonic possessions, the genre of horror has come a long way, todays horror movies have a variety of things in common with horror movies from the early 1900s. Honey Spot Play Analysis The media text Brisbane Tent Embassy battle goes on as Elder stands up for his sovereign rights by the National Indigenous Times News and the play Honey Spot by Jack Davis both incorporate themes of racism towards Indigenous Australians. The play deals with fictional events concerning tension between Anglo Europeans and Indigenous Australianswhich are based on existing events, such as the event described in the media text. This was about an Indigenous man who was arrested for legally participating in his cultural practices, a theme which was touched on in the play also. The two written texts both explore similar themes involving Indigenous rights and discrimination against Indigenous Australians. Such similar themes are the traditional land use practices which the Indigenous Australians aren t allowed to partake in, the conscious and subconscious racism displayed by the Anglo Europeans, and how racial differences create issues in society. He believed that individuals have set motivation systems and individuals achieve a set of needs by passing these motivation systems. Maslow believed these stages were set in a hierarchal order and that the lowest system must be accomplished before moving up. He believed there to be eight stages in his hierarchy. He believed that every person is capable to move up the hierarchy as long as there basic needs are encountered and they have the desire to reach the highest potential. Sex can help boost your spirits through mood elevating endorphins. Without the benefit of these natural pick me ups, you might be prone to feeling low (Streicher, 2017). Even though she has dated men in the past, they have not met her needs in a man and therefore she has not been motivated to move up the hierarchy. Even when she thought she found a man that met her standards, she would still end up hurt and would fall down the hierarchy back to stage one. It is proven in the scenario that Ruth also likes her men intelligent, as she believes that if this individual is intelligent, they will understand her as an individual better and they will pursue and motivate her to reach the self actualisation that she needs. When Ruth believed she found the one and continued to chat online with him for hours upon hours, her basic need for sex was skipped until she met him in person as she believed that all of her other basic needs were already met. Drug Prohibition – The solution that never worked Essay Countries have been making drugs illegal over the years for varieties of reasons be it to combat a perceived moral or health epidemic, to single out certain groups of people, or to reflect religious influences. While there are many drugs that are unhealthy when abused, the drugpolicies around the world, particularly the United States, are inconsistent and oppressive. These deaths are due to drug wars and fights over territory between the various organized crime groups, who get their business by trafficking drugs over the United States border. Their booming business and death count directly depend on the prohibition of drugs to continue. Former US narcotics officer Michael Levine worked undercover with some Colombian cocaine cartels and talked about what he learned: I learned that not only did they not fear our war on drugs, they counted on it to increase the market price and to weed out the smaller, inefficient drug dealers. They found U.S. interdiction efforts laughable. The only U.S. action they feared was an effective demand reduction program. On one undercover tape recorded conversation, a top cartel chief, Jorge Roman, expressed his gratitude for the drug war, calling it a sham put on for the American taxpayer that was actually good for business (Lynch, 92). Prohibition of drugs continues to allow organized crime to raise their death toll and make massive profits. Further evidence on how prohibition can fail and give rise to crime is quite clear looking back to the attempted prohibition of alcohol in the 1920s in the United States. The Volstead Act and Eighteenth Amendment to the Constitution banned the sale of alcohol and caused much unrest among the citizenry of the country. Widespread criminal ... The subsequent professionalization and a growing pattern of stratification in the admissions marketplace have seen institutions of all types using increasingly sophisticated mechanisms to attract qualified applicants (Duffy and Goldberg, 1998). With the exception of the eligibility based model which champions entitlement and open access , the other three models are selective in nature in that students are compared against one another on the basis of certain criteria before an admissions decision is made. The most common and basic philosophy adopted by institutions is the performance based model, which judges applicants based on their demonstrated performance prior to college. This model is advanced through two approaches, meritocracy and character. The meritocracy approach views acceptance into an institution as a reward for prior academic achievement, while the character approach focuses on personal qualities such as resilience and civic virtue (the College Board, 2002). In addition, many colleges also assess students based on their ability to benefit from higher education. The two approaches under this theme include the enhancement approach and the mobilization approach. The former is intended to identify and nurture talent while the latter promotes social and economic mobility (the College Board, 2002). These approaches attempt to contextualize previous accomplishments in light of the student s circumstances and accord value to unrealized potential. • 26. Cases of Overcoming Hardship Hardship is something everyone must overcome at some point in their lives. Everyone deals with hardships differently. It is harder for some people to recover from hardship because of their family, friends, or even because they can t find the will within themselves to deal with hardships. It would be easier for someone who is naturally determined and strong willed to overcome things because they have a inbred ability to conquer their fears and leave behind whatever it was that was making their life unbearable. If parents don t support their kids decisions, such as Jeannette going to New York, then that can make it harder to triumph over things they struggle with. If friends don t encourage someone to go on and make something better of themselves, they will hold them back and they will be stuck in the life everyone expects them to live. Many parents support their children to learn from their mistakes and make better choices than what they made when they were a kid and even now. Friends can be a huge part in trying to get over things that they are struggling from. With the right support and help from them it makes it that much easier to overcome hardships. The person struggling must find it within themselves to be a better person each day. Not everyone has the same chance of recovery, but that doesn t mean that they can t do it. • 28. Romantic Emotionism In Alexander Pope s The Rape Of The Lock Most of life s moments have little import. Each day often screams no more of significance than the day preceding. There are a few moments throughout life that manage to contain, within themselves, the power to change the course of one s life, but more often than not, the moments we give importance to are fairly trivial events, changing or altering nothing more than any other day. We find that those more common moments are created by culture, cultivated in a society that believes that something about a day or a time though nothing significant changes, like birthdays demarking a specific time on a continuum makes it special. This same brand of cultural elevation affects physical features and infrequent, though insignificant still, actions. Alexander Popes The Rape of the Lockcharts that influence in society and, with verse dripping with wit, questions what we hold dear. The Rape of the Lock is written as a heroic Romantic poem, dealing in turns with romance and violence. Canto Three is perhaps Pope s best encapsulation of Romantic passion in the poem. The card game is told a conflict between semi personified cards and their players, Belinda and the Baron. Pope seems to enthrall the reader when [t]he hoary Majesty of Spades appears and pushes us to hold our breaths when [t]he Knave of Diamonds tries his wily arts, / and wins (oh shameful chance!) the Queen of Hearts (56, 86 87). • 35. The Wife s Lament Essay The Wife s Lament Over the years, there have been many interpretations of who the speaker of The Wife s Lament could be. These range from very interesting ideas to ones that seem a little rough around the edges. It is obvious that no sure answer can be found due to the fact that whoever wrote this poem is dead and that the answer will always be in speculation even if it is correct. Hopefully, at the end of this quest I will be slightly more enlightened as to who the true speaker may really be. There are some things that we do know about this poem. It is most often referred to as an elegy because of the mood of mourning and regret. Upon further reading I discovered that this poem is like others of its time period. Many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have the right to say what miseries I have endured since I grew up, new or old never greater than now. Even though this poem is relatively short, the vivid expression of grief is somewhat awe inspiring. The first interpretation of who the speaker is in The Wife s Lament is very shaky and not well accepted among scholars and even the average reader. This interpretation is that the speaker may be a male and not a female as we all believe. It was very common in Anglo Saxon times for the lord of a group of people to be more to them than a ruler. Very often he would become a close friend to his people and they loved him like family. The relationship between lord and man was more than just a business arrangement and although they were working for the lord, he was respected much like a father figure would be. The problem with this interpretation is that the grammatical gender is feminine. This is the reason why everyone assumes that the speaker is a female. Supporters of this reading of The Wife s Lament believe that somewhere along the line of translating the poem the translator made a mistake and changed the gender of the speaker. As I have already said, this interpretation is very rough around the edges and rather hard to believe. I believe that if the speaker were male then there would be no real reason for his being exiled in this fashion. It was not a custom for communities to allow foreigners in thus falsifying ... • 36. The Theories Of Management That Organizations Can Use There are many approaches to management that organizations can use. Managerial theories are based on historical approaches or historical theories. Many organizations use more than one approach that may or may not be effective. Several decades ago researchers were attempting to explain the nature of managing from six different points of view: managementprocess, empirical approach, human behavior, social system, decision theory, and mathematics theory. The organization that I work for, the City of Lilburn, does not use just one approach to management. One of the management approaches that the city uses is the social system approach. Vilfredo Pareto, a sociologist, and Chester Barnard were the pioneers of this theory. Pareto came up with the idea that human relationships were social systems (Koontz, 1980). His work made an impression and influenced Chester Barnard. Barnard, during his study, noticed executives operating in cooperative social systems that he names organizations. Social systems are the cooperative interaction of ideas, forces, desires and thinking of two or more people. This theory later was applied to many groups and cooperatives (Koontz, 1980). With this approach organizations are essentially a cultural system that is composed of people who work in cooperation in order to achieve the organizations goals. Management needs to understand the behavior of people in the groups in order for this approach to be affective. This approach relies on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Sociological Research On Social And Class Differences Various statistical techniques are used in sociological research in order to study the social world. These may include measures to describe data dispersion, as well as analytical methods such as latent class analysis. Each technique can provide distinct approaches to answering a research question, as they may emphasize specific factors or lead to different ways to structure results. Consequently, it becomes particularly important to consider one s choice of measures and methods, as depending on the ones used, both the conclusion itself and interpretations of it may be affected, along with wider understandings of social reality. To begin, quantitative social research will often employ statistical measures to determine the central tendency of a given dataset. These measures, including mean, median, and mode, are used to calculate typical values of the center of a probability distribution. Since they are focused on average values, measures of central tendency are useful tools in understanding the typical situations or experiences of social groups. This makes them especially helpful in understanding social inequality and class differences because they facilitate comparison of data for multiple groups. For instance, to determine levels of economic inequality in relation to gender, one could calculate the mean incomes of males and females in a given city and compare them. However, it is crucial to consider the effects of these different measures of central tendency, as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
