How to Share Wifi Password
from Your iPhone
Technology How To Tips & Tricks
If you have guests at your home, they might ask for your Wi-Fi password to help them
save on their mobile data and safety surf the web on your home Wi-Fi network. But
sharing passwords should be done carefully to protect your personal information. In
some cases, you might not want to give out your password because of security
reasons. Sometimes, the password is lengthy and complicated, which can make it a
hassle to remember.
What if you had two iOS devices and one was connected to Wi-Fi, but the other
needed the Wi-Fi password? In this case, you can share the Wi-Fi password without
actually sharing it. That is, you can use your phone already connected to Wi-Fi to allow
the other device to connect to your private network without manual password entry.
How to Share Wifi Password from Your iPhone
A Wi-Fi password should be shared with trusted friends or family members, only. To share your
WiFi password with an Apple device you must make sure it meets the following requirements:
- Make sure both devices have the latest iOS, iPadOS, or macOS versions.
- On both devices, turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
- Sign into iCloud with your Apple ID. Then, remember to save the email address of the other
person in your Contacts. And make sure they have your email address saved in their
Contacts.
- Turn off Personal Hotspot on both devices.
- Keep the other person’s device nearby. This is best done by leaving it in the same room as
you, but if that’s not possible, keep it on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi range.
Step 1
Make sure your iPhone is unlocked
and connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Step 2
On the iPhone that needs the Wi-Fi password, go to Settings.
Step 3
Select Wi-Fi. If your guest is on a Mac
computer, have them tap the Wi-Fi
icon on the top right-hand corner of the
screen.
Step 4
Choose the same network that your
device is already connected to.
Step 5
Do not enter the password when prompted.
Step 6
Bring the two devices in range of each other.
Step 7
On your device, you will receive a
notification to share your Wi-Fi
password. Tap the Share Password
button.
Step 8
The other phone will then automatically receive the password and be able to
connect to the Wi-Fi.
Step 9
After the password was successfully
shared, tap Done to close the
notification.
How to Share a Wifi Password from Your iPhone
with a QR Code
With the ability to scan QR codes becoming more and more common amongst
smartphones, it is important to know how to share a wifi password with a QR
code. Using a QR code as an alternative to manually entering in the wifi login
information is the easiest way to connect your device to the internet.
Step 1
Head to QiFi.org using your favorite browser.
Step 2
Enter your wireless network name
(SSID) and password (key).
Step 3
You may also need to enter the security type. To find this on your device, check
the Wi-Fi settings.
Step 4
After filling out all the fields, tap
Generate to produce the code.
Step 5
Once you have the code, either print it
or export it as a file.
Step 6
To connect with your Wi-Fi without having to type the password, have your guest
open their camera app and scan the code from your screen or printed QR code.
Here’s How to Scan QR code on your phone without the need to install third-party
apps.
Hopefully, with the steps above, you’re able to share your Wi-
Fi password with your friends without manual password entry.
