Australian Tax Reform
Debt, Death Taxes
16th October 2002 Robert Camilleri
The Conservative government doctrine is essentially defined as the party of tax relief. But now
conservatives have converted themselves into the party of debt retirement. The conservative
government has lost interest in tax cutting and instead wants to devote the surplus tax payments and
asset sales over the next 3 years to paying down the national debt. The Howard Costello government,
seen as militant debt hawks, has announced their goal is to retire the entire national debt by 2005.
Has this government forgotten all of the economic and political lessons of the past 20 years? Take the
American experience of the Reagan Government, they used surpluses to cut marginal tax rates, ...

Parliament will spend the money, because it is in their nature. The debt hawks say, stash the surplus
money away so it s available for a rainy day. The truth is, for parliament; every day is a rainy day. The
Howard government real concern is that if they are sitting on this cash the public will be screaming
out for tax cuts, so repaying debt is a quick an easy way to take the focus off this get rid of the cash.
Tax reform is the smarter strategy rather than reducing the debt burden and it will grow the GDP
faster. A dollar devoted to reducing marginal tax rates or to reducing the tax penalty against saving and
investment will yield a higher return to the Australian economy, and thus to future generations, than a
dollar used for retiring debt
But even if we suspend our disbelief and assume that every surplus penny was used to buy down debt,
the economic benefit would be trivial. The primary argument in favour of debt reduction is that it will
relieve the burden from our children of having to pay off the debt in the future. But as long as we don t
add to the debt over the next decade through a return to deficit spending, the debt burden on the next
generation will fall automatically. It already is happening. Even without a penny of actual debt
retirement, the debt as a share of GDP will fall from 15% of GDP in the early 1990s, using the current
debt levels, to about 8% of GDP now. In

Comparison Of Alexander Pushkin And Robert Frost
Therese Youso
ENG 312: Lyric Poetry
Sr. Mary Dominic, O.P.
April 28, 2015
Alexander Pushkin and Robert Frost both have written poems about autumn. There is a correlation
between these two poems since they share many romantic features. Autumn and After Apple Picking
are both alike and different in many ways. Alexander Pushkin was born in Moscow, Russia and lived
from 1799 until 1837. He wrote from a very young age, not only writing poetry, but also dramas and
novels. He died in a duel when he was 39 years old. Autumn is a poem that contains many of the
elements of romanticism. The first quality is feelings. This whole poem oozes the feelings of Pushkin.
The first line is October comes at last. The feeling of relief is obvious, and there is a sense of an event
finally coming. It is as if his patience was being tested and wearing thin. He could hardly wait for
autumn. In the second stanza he writes, This is my time! What is the spring to me? Spring makes me
ill: my mind is never free from dizzy dreams, my blood s in constant ferment. He clearly does not like
the spring season at all. It is boring and there is a tone of disgust. He compares the fun and excitement
of winter. There is definitely a large range between the way he feels about what spring brings and
what winter brings. Winter is almost bearable to Pushkin. Winter is fun. He enjoys the activities and
cold weather of the winter. In stanza four, he writes, O, summer fair! I would have loved you too,

Drama Theatre Arts Class
We have been watching the in school performances for the Drama Theatre Arts classes every year
since eighth grade. To be apart of what I saw on stage was certainly a compelling experience. Being in
Drama Club, I understood what I was getting myself into. It was great to still being with students like
Nora and Alyssa who had a passion for theatre, but I also had to work with people who aren t as into
performing on stage. Theatre is a collaborative effort. Each group project provided an internal struggle
in the group. Either someone didn t know their lines, was uncomfortable on stage, or was just hard to
work with. I often found myself trying to hold a group together and solving their problems. I know I m
going to experience people like in the theatre world, so I am glad I have experience in group thinking

Although it is nothing new to me, risking on stage is something everyone struggles with. Improv
pushed me out of my comfort zone, performance poetry left me vulnerable, and singing live at seven
a.m. is a singer s worst nightmare. Despite initial fears, I d say the performances went pretty well.
Performance poetry was difficult. I didn t quite have the most harmonious group. But I am glad we
were able to go and preach what we did I had an absolute BLAST during the musical theatre festival. I
worked my butt off to go on stage, back to booth, on stage, back to the booth, and for six hours
straight. There were many technical difficulties, and I never want to hear Sincerely Me again, but I
had a blast while performing the number I did from Book Of Mormon. My only regret is that I may
have spread myself too thin. That number had so much more potential, but I had to sacrifice so much
of my rehearsal time to work on lights. I m just glad I was able to make everyone happy as best I
could. I just had to do what was best for the class as a

Pest Control Impacts The Environment Essay

Central Idea
Pest control impacts the environment.
Lines of Inquiry
The presence of pest control influences the ecosystems of our environment.
Pest control can potentially associate risks to our environment, species of animals, and plants.
The use of pest control can be effective against pests.

What is 1080?
1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) is a poisonous chemical. Used in many areas of New Zealand, yet it
causes a devastating amount of damage harms many areas of New Zealand.
What is 1080 used for
1080 is a poison used to protect the threats to native animals and plants from introduced species. The
pest control poison is effective in killing these introduced species which kill our native animals/plants
especially rats, stoats and possums.
Mainly found in vegetation lands, it prevents pests from eating healthy crops and native animals.
However, 1080 is a hazard to children, dogs, and many other animals. This potential hazard can spread
to bodies of water and can be present in a specific areas for an extravagant amount of time. This
danger makes 1080 an unethical choice for controlling pests.
Recently, in 2015, a nationwide scare was put on Fonterra Baby Formula. An anonymous letter sent to
major news corporations (residing in New Zealand) threatened the safety of the baby formula.
Included was baby formula laced with 1080 hazardous pest control poison as well as a threat to lace

Although each classification of natural disaster is...
Although each classification of natural disaster is capable of creating catastrophic destruction, I feel
that the destruction resulting from the accumulated factors that are responsible for Tsunamis have a
potential destructive force far greater than other singular forces of nature on their own; Furthermore,
due to the densely populated urbanized regions in high risk zones the potential impact on humans
form Tsunamis is elevated in comparison with other phenomena s which may occur with little impact
on human society. Therefore a natural event that may be of similar magnitude may occur without
impacting our society and will in turn only be viewed as a geological event, whereas a Tsunami, based

Despite the destructive force of the original earthquake, a massive tidal surge will follow sometimes
only minutes after the initial shockwave with an even greater destructive force.
Atlantic Costal cities such as New York may not suffer from Tsunamis caused by mega thrusts along
submissive faults, Atlantic cities are still at risk of Tsunamis in some form. In 1929 a Tsunami hit the
coast of Newfoundland Canada which was caused by a massive underwater landslide on the
continental shelf that caused a massive water surge. A Tsunami of this nature could still affect regions
such as New York City and other large cities along the Atlantic.
The biggest risk of Tsunamis is along the Pacific cost lines, Oceania and the Indian Ocean regions.
Seismic activity in the South Pacific, Oceania and Indian regions in particular can strike with
devastating force is some of the worlds most densely populated regions. The destructive force,

Graffiti Is Art Not Vandalism
Graffiti Is Art Not Vandalism Graffiti can be found everywhere and anywhere. It is a way for people to
express themselves and be creative in a public manner. It shows how passionate and talented they can
be when it comes to drawing or tagging and have it displayed as a piece of art for everyone to see.
Graffiti goes way back to the ancient times and is now very well known in the modern days which
makes more and more people interested and fascinated by them. It can be used in different types of
ways. Many artists can either spray paint, carve, paste, or stencil them on a surface. From how we see
them today they are usually images of random cartoons, big bubbly letters, vintage black and whites
or inspirational quotes. Virtually anything colorful or not and big that can be easily spotted. Graffiti is
more superior to be known as art than vandalism because it is a self expressing act. People need to be
open minded about the images they see and look at the message behind it or else they will
immediately criticize and say it is vandalizing property. It is a form of art not a crime. Going out of
their way to trespass and damage property like fences, road barriers, or warning signs is considered a
crime. Art wise, it attracts large crowds and shocks a few. It is a way to build a creative imagination
and to be spontaneous. It really depends on how people look and feel about it. But there are
artists that make street art which means that they are

In Florida, a reptile called the Burmese python is currently rapidly growing in population. It s making
negative affects to tons of organisms. It feasts on anything it can find. The presence of the Burmese

Everglades. To begin with, the Burmese python can grow to a length of 19 feet long and the width can
be the thickness of a telephone pole. Just envision something like that roaming around your
neighborhood. This specific python was brought over from Southeast Asia. Unlike other snakes the
Burmese python is not venomous. Instead it has rows of sharp teeth to kill its prey. The deadly python

Call Of Duty Black Ops Ad Analysis
Call of Duty: Black Ops, a high quality game full of exhilarating and intense combat. The Call of
Duty: Black Ops ad is pretty much a mini action film with neverending gun fire and explosions,
jumping from one action packed scene to another. However, instead of soldiers wielding assault rifles,
shotguns, handheld missile launchers, etc. there are everyday people, hinting at the title of the ad
There s a Soldier in All of Us. It was greatly anticipated that the Call of Duty: Black Ops commercial
ad would exhibit the same qualities as the videogame itself. The Call of Duty: Black Ops There s a
soldier in All of Us ad uses a diverse cast, over the top Hollywood style action, and thrilling music to
enforce the theme of the ad, creating a mini action movie to appeal to the consumer s need and want to
be a part of the action. The Call of Duty: Black Ops ad certainly incorporates the slogan There s a
Soldier in All of Us into the ad with a diverse cast. The ad uses a cast of people of different ages,
gender, social status, and cultural backgrounds dressed as regular everyday people in place of a cast in
soldier uniforms. According to David Vinjamuri (2015), the increased diversity in television, film and
advertising is based on sound marketing principles simply put, we are more likely to identify with
someone that looks like us (para. 6). The whole ad uses the persuasive technique Pathos to create an
emotional response in the consumer, (Rosenau, 2012) a sense of

Energy East Pipeline Project (EEPP)
Introduction and Background The focus of this project relates specifically to the Energy East Pipeline
Project (EEPP) which is a large energy related infrastructure project in Canada. By extension, the
implications of this discussion regarding the EEPP also involve debate regarding the future of Canada
s energy independence and the character, in part, of its environmental policies. The EEPP itself is one
of the largest energy infrastructure projects undertaken in Canada s history. The data indicates that the
EEPP will consist of 4,600 kilometres of pipeline designed to transport crude oil in amounts up to 1.1
million barrels a day from the Alberta oil sand fields to oil refineries and marine loading facilities in
New Brunswick and Quebec City.[1] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The EEPP is designed to allow Canadian interests to transport the crude oil produced from its oil
sands in Alberta to other international markets. Therefore, understanding how the EEPP is merely a
reflection of the oil sands development is a prerequisite to understanding the EEPP itself. Data and
information already suggest that the negative environmental and health effects associated with the
Alberta oil sands development are significant in which the Woodland Caribou is projected to become
extinct within the entire Alberta region due to the destruction of its habitat and also the cancer rate for
the First Nations people at Fort Chipewyan is 30% higher over previous levels.[5] These and
associated developments over the past decade or so are revealing just how poorly managed the
environmental aspects of the oil sands project are. There is a clear lack of oversight, environmental
management and accountability for these types of negative outcomes. The supposition is such that if
the oil sand fields are so managed so poorly from an environmental perspective then there can be little
doubt that the EEPP will likely be just as poorly

Fourth Ward School Analysis
Within historic Virginia City resides the Fourth Ward School, a building constructed in 1874. When it
was built, Virginia City was booming with a population of approximately twenty two thousand people.
Virginia City at the time wanted to show off some of its pride as a city with a new four story school.
As the school today is so very old and has a history, people running the museum have to balance
keeping the place funded and staying historically true. Today, the museum has lost much of its
historical authenticity and has taken on more of a museum s role, rather than a historical building role.
However, that does not diminish the education potential the Fourth Ward School still has.
The School itself closed down in 1936, and it was not until ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This comes from the fact that the Fourth Ward School has undergone massive reconstruction since its
desertion in 1936. That does not take away from the fact that the school looks to be authentic, like it
was just preserved. This adds to its efficiency to educate as few museums can also claim to be a
historical building and show history visually. Even if the school is entirely re created, with the vast
sum of knowledge on the school, we can recreate it masterfully so that everyone can still learn and
enjoy being in a historical building that is the last of its kind. The Fourth Ward School blends the
needs of historic preservation well with the needs of a modern museum. It is likely that as time goes

Importance Of Social Class In Mrs Dalloway
Mrs. Dalloway is an exceptional novel with several varying themes throughout the book. The setting
of the novel takes place after World War I, previously known has the The Great War. The characters
express interesting reactions to topics common during their time period and illustrate their own
struggles. Class structure and social hierarchy play key roles in the novel and has certain effects on the
characters. The British people during that time valued social class as extremely vital. The people in the
upper class love life and enjoy themselves, but ones in the lower class have a challenging time to
move up in society. Woolf illustrates how the lower class basically looks up to the wealthier and more
successful people. The people the main character, Clarissa, associates with herself are all in the same
class or even higher up, for example, the prime minister attends her gathering. Other characters like
Miss Kilman, who Clarissa despises, and Ellie Henderson are envious of Clarissa because they are
lower then her in society. However, Clarissa is not alone but mostly every single character worries
about his/her social status and class whether they are making it larger, keeping it consistent, or feeling
jealous of others. There is a quote in the novel that resonated with me and it was Mrs Dalloway said
she would buy the flowers herself . Which is basically stating how she would have to get up and buy
them herself instead of sending a servant to get them. Therefore, it is

How Art Has Changed On The Viewer Rather Than Art Made
FINAL EXAM
Does Art made in 1400 1900 put greater Demands on the Viewer rather than Art made after 1900?
Art is the creative field of study where people use their talents and imaginations to produce visual
work of someone or something. Artists usually indicate emotions and special techniques to create
harmony and balance within their artwork. Indeed, art has been evolving since the beginning of
humanity. But the first visual records can be traced back to the Paleolithic Period that is also known as

Firstly, the Mona Lisa (1503 1506) portrays Lisa di Antonio Maria

very unusual since the woman in it is not wearing any jewellery which was signifying wealth at that
time. She seems to be a special woman who emphasizes a serene assurance to engage the viewers.
Also, her blank facial expression is known as enigmatic .1 The emotions on her face are not very well
represented as her character and thoughts appear to be hidden instead of being exposed. There is a lack
of kindness in her eyes. Leonardo da Vinci shifted her eyes to the right side so that they look straight
at the viewers. This creates a mental density. The woman is shown in the form of a Renaissance

International And World Trade Law
Introduction International and World Trade Law Counterfeiting
This reflective paper will address several issues associated with international and world trade law as
they pertain to counterfeiting and discussing the connections between business, law, politics and ethics
with regard to counterfeiting. First, it will discuss the legal and ethical issues related to boycotting
goods from other countries, as well as the practical business implications of such a move. Next, this
paper will analyze the problem of World Trade Organization (WTO) participant nations and their
ability to address the problems of counterfeiting. Finally, it will discuss the type of action the United
Nations might take with regard to the counterfeiting issue.
Boycotting Goods from Other Countries
To discuss the legal and ethical issues relating to this subject, one must first define ethical behavior.
According to Merriam Webster, it is: ethics : an area of study that deals with ideas about what is good
and bad behavior : a branch of philosophy dealing with what is morally right or wrong (Simple
Definition of ethic, n.d., para 1). Whereas it is not illegal to boycott goods from other countries,
corporations usually do this for several reasons to include: as a protest against U.S. foreign policy, a
potential harm to U.S. relations with that country (due to dubious human rights practices, etc.), an
attempt to protect local/national produce, or an issue of quality of life (due to safety of

Humorous Wedding Toast by the Bride s Brother

Previous to this he attended Exeter University. I have very little material with regard to Mike s 3 years

He s also a very keen golfer and is a member of a club. But sadly, he is not blessed with the natural
ability to play the game well. On one occasion, following a very disappointing round with me, he
asked the club professional for some tips and pointers. After observing his swing, he advised Mike to
cut 6 inches off the length of his clubs. Thinking that he had been struggling all these years with the

Above all else, though, Mike is perhaps the only person who could possibley make an honest woman

Seriously, Sallie has given me, and all my family, some incredibly happy moments over the years. And
Mike, you fit right in with our family. Welcome! You bring happiness to Sallie, and for that we thank
you.

Violent Drug Crimes
Peter Wagner, executive director of the Policy Reform Initiative, stated on March 14, 2017, that
nonviolent drug convictions are a defining characteristic of the federal prison systems but play only a
supporting role at the state and local levels. Since the official beginning of the War on Drugs in 1982,
the number of people incarcerated for drug offenses in the U.S. skyrocketed from 40,900 in 1980 to
469,545 in 2015. Since it is common knowledge that racism is very much still prevalent in today s

American children represent 32% of children who are arrested, 42% of children who are detained, and

example, these group of young adolescents that are targeted because of their skin color have to face a
myriad of unnecessary obstacles in the aftermath such as not being able to complete their education,

Flower Still Life Painting by Rachel Ruysch
The exquisite colorful painting of Rachel Ruysch s Flower Still Life painting represents the Dutch
tradition of flower painting in Amsterdam during the 17th century. Ruyshch s still life paintings are
examples of the significant advances made in botany during the 17th century. Rachael Ruysch is a
Dutch painter from (1664 1750) from Amsterdam. Her flower pieces were highly prized and during
her 70 year career, she became one of the most highest paid still life painters in Europe. The Flower
Still Life painting was created after the 1700s. Ruysch created this masterpiece with oil on canvas
with the height of 30 X 24 (76.2 X 61 cm).
The Flower Still life painting is a two dimensional piece. There are no dominant shapes; instead each
one has different shape creating more of a realistic flower. The reason for this was because; flower
painting in the 17th century was almost never a depiction of actual fresh flowers. Each flower has its
unique shape that exemplifies a life of a flower. Some are still blooming and the others are in the
process of dying, the circle of life. This painting has no geometric form but more of a naturalistic
view.
To balance the painting Ruysch placed highlighted blossoms and leaves against the dark left half of
the canvas and silhouetted them against the light wall area on the right. The artist uses light coming
from the left side of the painting, which creates a main view of the center of the image. The light hits
the center of the bouquet that

Boise Bridge Project Reflection Paper
As the Building a Boise Bridge project continues, I have really enjoyed getting to know the teachers
and students working on this project a little more! This project takes place at Taft Elementary School,
which is a public school in the Boise School District. Unfortunately, with the session on Thursday the
5th being moved up to Monday the 2nd, I was unable to attend that week. But I was able to attend the
last session, and enjoyed catching up with the students and teachers involved with this project.
The teachers who I have interacted with the most are Kelly Kolpitcke, and Sarah Wright. Megan

The students watched this video, then discussed what they thought were the important take aways. The
main points the teachers seemed to want the students to take away from that video is what causes earth
quakes, what are the strongest type of earthquake, and how do we measure earthquakes. The second
video the class watched, showed video footage of the aftermath of some earthquakes that have
happened in history. The video showed destruction of buildings, and how earthquakes can cause
tsunamis and the destruction that tsunamis also cause. The point of this video was to show the students
how important the engineering of building is, and got them to start thinking about their own bridges
and how they can withstand an earthquake. We did not directly discuss bridges this week though, our
focus was primarily on earthquakes.
When we broke up into our teams, my team was trying to answer two specific questions; what are the
effects of an earthquake? And can we build earthquake proof buildings. I worked with two boys in the
class, Kendall and Sean to help answer these questions. To answer these questions each of the students
had a laptop and used Google Classroom to access links to websites the teachers provided to answer
these questions. We discussed what the effects of an earthquake are, this included destruction of
buildings, fatalities,

Motivation For The College Student
Once upon a time, in a somewhat happy place, there lived a young woman. She was freshly divorced
and now wondering how she was going to be all that she had hoped and dreamed of becoming. All her
once future plans were now shattered and she felt broken. In this thunderstorm of a place, there was a
silver lining: her two, handsome princes. They were really her saviors and grounding force. The two
princes became her motivation to start over, create a new life, and start rediscovering herself.
For the college student, motivation is a personal aspiration with much hard work. The college writing
student will focus on increasing writing abilities and becoming a better writer by class end. With a
deep rooted motivation, the learning to write process will continue to be built and perfected over the
course of the student s time in school. For example, I feel that I can write well, yet there are areas that
need improvement, like increased vocabulary and decreased compound complex sentences. Therefore
with each class that I take, my writing abilities can be expanded and practiced, building upon what I
have already learned and observing new ways to apply my writing skills. My motivation is to
accomplish greater polished writing skills and more personal success in writing. Motivation is the
driving force found in the heart and mind that makes goals and dreams happen.
There is a time I remember when vocabulary in writing was strongly encouraged and then I attended
my first college class

Wireless Environmental Parameters Monitoring And Sms Alert...
Wireless Environmental Parameters Monitoring and SMS alert system
Abstract Traditional environmental parameter monitoring system are either wired or those which are
wireless and has less power consumption are for short range, and if they have long range capability
then they consume a lot of power and are expensive. This paper has investigated in building a long
range, low power and cheap wireless parameter monitoring system with functionality to send alert to
the operator on increase of any parameter beyond a predefined limit.
I. Introduction
Monitoring physical parameters such as temperature, pressure, humidity, etc. of process plant is
important to continuously know the health of plant. Presently the various process parameters are
monitored using conventional smart transmitters, transducers, etc. They need wiring, which not only
increases cost of transfer of signal but also their reliability decreases due to physical interconnections,
attenuation to the signal and general system becomes complex. Even in the presently available
wireless system, they are either available for small range or are high power consuming if available for
longer ranges and are very expensive. In order to overcome these problems, the author has suggested a
distributed wireless environment to monitor the parameters of interest and send SMS alert to the
operator in case of any predefined abnormality. The author has attempted to design and implement
open architecture low cost medium range

The Pros And Cons Of Lowering The Drinking Age
As teenagers ourselves, we know that most will want to be rebellious at some point. An illegal option,
alcohol makes for a perfect way for teens to be rebellious. With a minimum legal drinking age of 21,
many teenagers are able to use drinking as a rebellious act. If the drinking age were 18, it would be
different. A 19 year old could not drink to rebel. A large part of what makes alcohol so appealing to
teenagers is its forbidden nature. Forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest. People want what they cannot
have. Having a minimum legal drinking age of 18 would eliminate the desirable forbidden aspect,
thereby making drinking less attractive to teens.
Pretend two teenagers are drinking. One gets hurt and needs medical attention. It is likely that the
other teen will hesitate to take the injured friend to get the needed attention due to fear that they will
both get in trouble. Lowering the drinking will eliminate this situation. It will reduce the number of
underage people having alcohol related injuries due to fear of the consequence. According to the
article Should the Drinking Age Be Lowered from 21 to a Younger Age? , 17 states and Washington,
DC will allow underage drinkers to report injuries without punishment. That means in 33 states,
injuries could be going untreated out of fear. Recently, a 20 year old died at a Florida State College

Narrative Essay On High School Basketball
My freshman year of high school basketball was almost coming to an end. Our record was pretty
stellar, and we needed one more win to get the wildcard, which meant we would automatically make it
to state. My team was playing against Malcolm, in a really tight game. We were down by two points
and Coach Henkel put me in to shoot a three pointer, but both of our hopes and dreams were short
lived. I missed the shot, and I lost the game for us. I was devastated, and so was everyone else. As I sat
in the locker room, all I could do was stare at the ground. The only thing running through my mind
was, no one is going to trust me with the ball anymore or worse yet, everyone is going to be mad at
me. These thoughts were slowly tearing me down, day by day. But that was until Coach Henkel talked
to me, and told me not to worry about missing the shot. He told me everyone misses, and that he wasn
t to worried. So, I was given two options, dwell on the past and let that affect my playing, or forget
about it and move on.
I have been given multiple opportunities where not dwelling on the past has come into play. In the
eighth grade I helped someone cheat on a test, and got caught. Yes, it was a bad decision and I have
definitely learned from it. I had to serve a detention and then always thought that Mr. Sass was going
to hate me forever. But I didn t dwell on what happened and learned from my mistakes. I had to learn
to move on because the past was the past. Thinking about the mistake I had

The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu deals heavily with Japanese religions and its influence on
Japanese society. Themes of jealousy, responsibility and guilt are also mixed in with the religious
themes. Religions and ideals clash through the course of the novel. Shikibu focused on the two
religions of Buddhism and Shinto. Buddhism represents the modern day religion in the novel and
Shinto is viewed as the old religion. As the novel progress the readers start to see the fusion of the two
religions. Throughout the novel several people such as women and priests live their lives according to

The Buddhist priests practice many different rituals and prayers such as the ones for success and
purification. They also practice exorcism which is associated exclusively with Shinto. The two
religions intertwined in Japanese society and in the novel, but the character of Lady Rokujo was faced
with a deep internal struggle due to the fusion of the two religions. Lady Rokujo escorts her daughter
to a Shinto shrine. She begins to feel a sense of guilt and the conflict between two religions manifests
insides her. Rokujo began to view herself as a traitor to the faith of Buddhism due to the fact she
practiced under the beliefs of Shinto at a Shinto shrine. In order for Lady Rokujo to solve this conflict,
she felt she had no other option but to become a nun for the Buddhist religion.
The theme of religion is very important in the novel and the roles of mysterious spirits that can be
found throughout the novel. The character of Lady Rokuju can be used as a prime example for how
spirits contribute to novel s plot and help it progress. Her relationship with Genji goes on a downward
spiral as the novel progress; therefore she begins to have feelings which Genji finds unwanting. She
began to show distasteful feelings such as being ill tempered and difficult to deal with. Genji becomes
annonyed and tries to distance himself from this relationship by forming a new relationship with a

The Reign Of Queen Elizabeth I And The Elizabethan Era

Queen Elizabeth I and the Elizabethan Theater. Although life was not easy during the Elizabethan era
it was one of the most progressive times in history and marked the beginning of the Elizabethan
theatre which still to this day influences theatre and the way theatre is presented .
The Elizabethan Era began in 1588 and ended in 1603 during Queen Elizabeth I reign England s

The Cartesian Theory Of Mind
René Descartes was a French philosopher responsible for many ideas and theories still used in the
philosophical world today. He earned the nickname Father of modern philosophy for his work. One of
his most in depth and lasting legacies is his mind body dualism thesis also known as the Cartesian
theory of mind.
The Cartesian theory states that there are two different types of existence, physical and mental.
Whatever exists must fall into only one of these existences and they cannot be both. This could be
compared to the two faces of a coin, where when you flip a coin it has to be either heads or tails, when
looking at the world it is either in the physical world or the mental world. Another example is how
animals are either male or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So a body s life is a public affair, much like the lives of animals and plants.
Minds, however, are different from bodies. Minds are not in space, since they do not occupy space like
a body does. Minds are part of mental existence. The processes of the mind are not subject to
mechanical laws like bodies are. Also the workings of someone s minds are not able to be witnessed
by other people, like a human body is able to be. When you use your mind and you think, imagine or
feel an emotion, other people cannot see what is going on in your mind. Since the workings of one s
mind are not able to be observed, this makes the minds life a private affair. This means that a person
lives two lives. The first is what happens to his body and the other is what happens in his mind. What
happens to the body is in the physical world while what happens in the mind is in the mental world
(Ryle). The view that physical objects are in a common field (space) and mental processes occur in a
isolated field known as the mind, is the ontological way, while the way that only our bodies can meet
and we cannot interact with each other s minds is the epistemological way. Gilbert Ryle sees that
Descartes divides a person s life into two halves, one being external and the other being internal.
Every physical thing, including the body, belong to the external half and physical world, while the

Seemingly, Mr. Gehrig s career was on the fast track to success; however, in 1939 he was diagnosed

This fact is substantiated by the progressive disease Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. This progressive
neurodegenerative disease disrupts nerve cells ability to function (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). It is
considered a terminal disease because those diagnosed with the disease die normally within three to
four years. Nerve cells commonly referred to as motor neurons act as modes of communication that
convey signals to the concerning body part. These messages sent from the brain are the catalyst for all
the body s movement and functions. According to the ASL association, the brain integrates,
coordinates, and processes voluntary and involuntary actions (1). The brain works effectively to assure
that all processes are performed correctly. Oppositely, those afflicted with ASL are unable to
coordinate the body necessary components. This results in limited mobility which results in atrophy.
Lou Gehrig s disease primarily affects the older population. Scientists have no idea as to the
pathogenesis of the disease or why it occurs in the elderly. Some believe that it may be a random
mutation. However, not all professionals believe that the disease is a coincidence. Many theorize that
the disease may be caused by environmental factors that trigger gene variation. Additional theories
include chemical imbalance, disorganized immune response and protein mishandling. Regardless of

Skateboarding Is A Popular Activity Among Youth
Nowadays, skateboarding is a very popular activity among youth, and has become an art form to many
enthusiasts. Skateboarding is a hard sport to learn. It s not something that can be learned overnight.
Even the top pros like Paul Rodriguez and Eric Koston still learn new things even though they have
been doing it for years. With skateboarding, there are endless possibilities when it comes to tricks.
When it comes to beginners, learning the basics is the best way to start this great pastime.
First, you should know the anatomy of your skateboard. A skateboard consists of a deck, trucks,
wheels, and bearings. Grip tape is used to help your feet grip the board. Hardware is used to bolt your
trucks to the deck and nuts are used to fasten the wheels on. For information on skateboard products,
visit your local skateboard retailer.
When it comes to skateboarding the first and foremost thing you should learn is how ride. Most people
who have never ridden a skateboard get on the first time and wipe out. Skateboarding requires a great
deal balance. You must always maintain your center of gravity directly over your board. If you lean
too far back, chances are you will fall backwards and the board will shoot out from under you. If you
lean too far forward, chances are you will fall on your face. Maintaining your weight directly over

chair and stare out the window waiting for my mama to get home. I sat there for at least for ten
minutes every day and then that is when mama would pull up in the driveway. I ran to the door and
stood there waiting for mama to walk through it. Mama opened the door and I ran straight towards her
and gave her the biggest hug I good.
Hi, mama! The little girl laughed
Hey baby girl, mama got you a gift! Mother smiled
What is it mama? The little girl giggled
Close your eyes Rin. Mother whispered
I could hear mama grabbing something out of her bag and her heels on the hard wood floor walking
back towards me click clack click clack .
Okay, Baby girl open your eyes! Mama Smiled
I opened my eyes and saw this cute doll that had a china face, porcelain skin, rosy cheeks, heart
shaped lips, and big brown round eyes just like mine. I smiled and gave mama a bear hug this time.
Thank you, mama! Rin laughed
Your welcome baby. Mama smiled
I went outside and started to play with my new doll. I named my doll Archer because she

Littering Effects
PART A
The Detrimental Effects of Littering This essay is going to discuss the detrimental effects of littering
by introducing the menaing of littering. Then it will discuss about the effects of littering to wildlife,
health and communities. The essay also provides suggestion to combat littering and illegal dumping of
trash and waste. Littering is the careless and casual disposal of trash or waste, often along roadways
and in other public places. It may include items as large as automobile tires and parts or as small as
cigarette butts. Littering may be either intentional or unintentional. Unintentional littering occurs as a
result of uncovered trucks, unsecured vehicle loads, loss of vehicle parts, trash can spills, ... Show

Other indicators of neighborhood decline and disorder include vandalism, abandoned buildings,
graffiti, and vacant lots. Of all of the indicators assessed in a study done by Perkins, Meeks, and
Taylor in 1992, litter was found to have the strongest correlation with perceptions of neighborhood
decline and disorder (as in Florida Litter Study, 1998). A study by Skogan in 1990, indicates that the
effects of this perception of neighborhood decline range from a decrease in property values to an
increase in crime, or at least an increase in criminals perception that crime will be tolerated (as in
Florida Litter Study, 1998). This study goes on to explain that as people s perceptions of neighborhood
decline increase, it is more likely that crime will occur and that criminals will be drawn to the area
because it appears more likely that criminal behavior will be tolerated or ignored. A study by
DeFrances and Titus in 1994 found a statistically significant relationship between neighborhood
disorder and burglary outcome indicating that burglaries are more likely to be completed in
neighborhoods with higher levels of disorder (as in Florida Litter Study, 1998). The study by Skogan
indicates that the effect of this perception of neighborhood decline and increase in crime can also
negatively impact property values and investment interest (as in Florida Litter Study, 1998).
To conclude, litter has

Ender Vs Valentine
Ender s Game Compare and Contrast Essay All of the following characters have a huge impact on the
book Ender s Game: Ender/Andrew, Valentine, Peter, and Bean. Ender is the main character who is
clever, sensitive, belligerent, and hegemonic. Whereas Valentine is clever sensitive, and hegemonic.
She is definitely not belligerent. Unlike Valentine, Bean, as well as Peter, can be very belligerent,
especially Peter. Although Bean is not very hegemonic. Peter is not the sensitive type, he would much
rather hide the love he has for Ender. Although these characters are extremely different, they are still
connected through their different emotions that impact each other s lives. Clever is one trait that
especially connects Valentine and Peter as siblings. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bean was not much of a leader, more of a follower. Still Bean was able to help his team win battles,
but in much other ways. Ender on the other hand lead the battle with the buggers. Although he was

Valentine is a completely different story. She had obtained her management skill through
Demosthenes. Valentine was able to say anything without others knowing she was only a child. Peter s
story is also very similar, he had gained his power through Locke. He knew how to find what people
feared, then he would manipulate in order to rule the

Analysis Of The Hurt Locker
The statement, The Hurt Locker is one of the greatest war films ever made is a loaded comment that
forces the viewer to consider several things. First, it requires the viewer to identify what makes a good
war film: is it the action, the heroism, the filming technique, sound effect etc.? All these things are
important to consider when determining the quality of a war movie. I argue that The Hurt Locker is
one of the greatest war films ever made because the film reveals war s brutal side, how it removes the
mundane, and its destruction of innocence, while also portraying a realistic hero that one could hope
to emulate. The first reason The Hurt Locker should be considered great is because of its accurate
portrayal about the horrors of war. Chris Hedges repeatedly states, [War] is peddled by mythmakers
historians, war correspondents, filmmakers, novelists, and the state... that war as displayed by the
entertainment industry might, in most cases, as well be ballet and it is because of this that the masses
get a false sense of what war entails (Hedges 2002, pg.3, 84). The Hurt Locker does the opposite of
that, director Kathryn Bigelow decides not to follow the typical structure of a war movie and elects to
include the graphic images and sounds that remove the cover from this dream and reveal a nightmare.
Specifically, the scene that stands out is when Staff Sargent William James finds the body of a boy
who strongly resembles a friend named Beckham, which has been turned into a body bomb.
Here the viewer is forced to look at the body, which is bloated due to it being stuffed with explosives,
and the crude stitching used to close it. Bigelow elects to use a variety of close up and medium shots
to include the reaction that Will and his squad have while staring at the body (Corrigan 2015). This
alone is enough to make the viewer uncomfortable, but where she truly excels is during Will s removal
of the bomb. Hedges states that one of the requirement to wake us up from the typical film is the
deafening and disturbing noise (Hedges 2002, pg.84). Bigelow accomplishes this during the bomb
removal by adding a loud snap every time Will cuts a suture (Bigelow 2009). Now, even if a person
attempts to look away, this

Mexican Drugs
Mexico: Drugs or Democracy
Introduction
Illicit drug trade between Mexico and the United States, estimated between $17 billion and $38 billion
a year in 2009 by the Drug Intelligence Center, has a long and storied past. Cartels operated with
relative impunity from government prosecution during the seventy year reign of the Institutional
Revolutionary Party, (PRI). The movement from an authoritarian government system of the PRI to the
liberal democracy initiated by the election victory of the National Action Party, (PAN), candidate,
Vicente Fox, in 2000, disrupted the status quo. Election gains by PAN Representatives disrupted long
standing agreements between the cartels and government officials which led to the increased violence
that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The DFS was supposed to fight drugs but one of the founders, Senator Colonel Carlos Serrano, was
tied to the drug cartels. His appointment provided a direct link between the ruling political party and
the drug cartels ensuring a flow of profits to government officials in exchange for protection and also
mitigated the need for drug traffickers to participate in politics. This collaborative arrangement
produced several decades of minimal drug related violence which was directed at opposing groups and
did not affect the general population.
Social changes in the United States during the 1960s and 1970 accompanied increased consumption of
marijuana and later cocaine use became more widespread in the 19080s. The proliferation of drug use
in American society prompted a change in the political view on drugs and the United States
government declared war on drugs. The U.S. government focused on the drug producing and
trafficking nations and pressured those nations into joining the war . Mexico was pressured into
heightening its efforts to combat drugs which included military operations to destroy drug trade and
growing fields. These efforts focused on migrant workers forced into labor by the drug lords, barely
disrupting the cartel s operations.
The link between the DFS and the Mexican political structure came to an end with the assassination of
U.S. DEA agent, Enrique Camarena, in 1985 and the subsequent pressure on the Mexican government.

How the USSR Was Able to Defeat Germany by 1945, Despite...
During the duration of The Second World War, the USSR lost 27 Million Soviets to the ravages of
war, despite this huge loss the USSR was still able to come out on top of the 3rd Reich. Before the
start of WW2 we see a series of purges, Implemented by Stalin in hope of getting rid of political
opposition. These affected the Red Army during the War. We can also look at the 5 year plans and we
will also look at how the Germans could have caused their own downfall by spreading their troops to
thin, trying to fight a war on two fronts and how unprepared they were to face the Soviets during
winter.
Moving to the purges, Stalin s Purges resulted in the death of many of the Red Army s senior
commanders; as a result the experience of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again we see that even the leader of Nazi Germany would underestimate the Soviets.
Another factor was that the use of German Allied troops to support critical positions within the east,
these reserves were used as the German s didn t have enough troops to support their war effort and had
essentially spread themselves too thin. Due to this it enabled the Soviet forces to break through the
German lines during the winter of 1942 and destroy the 6th and 4th Panzer Armies. This was a loss
that the Germans could not fully recover from. Relating this back to the question, the loss of two
major divisions would impact on both the morality of the Soviet and German forces, it would also stop
the Germans from advancing in that route.
A second point to consider is the lack of Air superiority within the German forces, due to the fact that
the Luftwaffe did not have long range bomber, this stopped them from attacking the Russian sources
of production and as a result we can see that the Soviets were able to out produce the Germans in
weapons. The fact that the Germans could not keep up with the Russian production numbers is due to
the Allied forces and their relentless bombing of the German industrial complexes, this slowed the

The Rise Of Heroin
Heroin use and overdose in society today is a raging epidemic and, as a result, is tragically destroying
too many lives at an early age. I know we all want our friends and family to live productive, safe,
healthy and long lives. However, I have personally lost four acquaintances within the past couple of
years due to this drug. My goal is to do everything in my power to persuade everyone to stay as far
away from heroin as possible, to resist the temptation of trying the drug , and to not succumb to the
potential lurking addiction. There are some drug users who believe they will be able to avoid
becoming addicted to this drug, but statistically the odds are not in their favor. The National Institute

health care costs and taxes to imprison convicted drug dealers and users. This drug is detrimental to
our society. Please join me in taking a stand against heroin. Make the conscientious decision to abstain
from taking the drug. If you, or someone you know, is struggling with drug addiction or is tempted to

The World Trade Center On The Wall Of A Chicken...
This site contains blocked messages these were the words spray painted on the back wall of a chicken
slaughterhouse. Looking at that this seemingly innocuous sentence it seems to convey the simple
message of how certain industries have been attempting to push the government to put more
restriction on what information people can share on the Internet. Not only that but pushing for an
increase in the censorship of certain websites and how they let there users interact. However, if one
really looks into the history of this message on the wall, they can see an interesting correlation as to
what occurred on the day it was painted. On the same day it was painted the New York Times had
denied a famous artist from publishing his article about his opinion on the history and design of a
memorial for an infamous event that occurred in New York, that event being the attack on the World
Trade center on September 11th, 2001. Now were these two seemingly separate events really
connected? Only a short time later the artist released the answer to this question, when the article that
had been previously denied by the New York Times, was mocked up by the artist and shared with the
world proving that the two events were connected. What could have caused the New York Times to
deny such an article and why did this artist feel the need to write it. In order to understand the
following arguments about the subject one must truly understand what happened on that fateful day.

It has a place in all of our hearts. Shakespeare is well and alive in modern society. In fact, there are
many famous quotes from Shakespeare that are being used on an everyday basis. Shakespeare quotes
are used often in our regular conversations. According to Christopher Gaze, we often say phrases such
as green eyed jealousy , It s Greek to me! , and Laughing Stock without realizing we are quoting
Shakespeare s works and plays. Many of the words we use in our everyday conversations have been
contributed by Shakespeare. According to Mental Floss, words such as addiction, fashionable, and
manager have been created by William Shakespeare. Furthermore, Shakespeare is ever present.
Shakespeare exists everywhere in our world. This is mainly because

  • 2. Australian Tax Reform Debt, Death Taxes 16th October 2002 Robert Camilleri The Conservative government doctrine is essentially defined as the party of tax relief. But now conservatives have converted themselves into the party of debt retirement. The conservative government has lost interest in tax cutting and instead wants to devote the surplus tax payments and asset sales over the next 3 years to paying down the national debt. The Howard Costello government, seen as militant debt hawks, has announced their goal is to retire the entire national debt by 2005. Has this government forgotten all of the economic and political lessons of the past 20 years? Take the American experience of the Reagan Government, they used surpluses to cut marginal tax rates, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Parliament will spend the money, because it is in their nature. The debt hawks say, stash the surplus money away so it s available for a rainy day. The truth is, for parliament; every day is a rainy day. The Howard government real concern is that if they are sitting on this cash the public will be screaming out for tax cuts, so repaying debt is a quick an easy way to take the focus off this get rid of the cash. Tax reform is the smarter strategy rather than reducing the debt burden and it will grow the GDP faster. A dollar devoted to reducing marginal tax rates or to reducing the tax penalty against saving and investment will yield a higher return to the Australian economy, and thus to future generations, than a dollar used for retiring debt But even if we suspend our disbelief and assume that every surplus penny was used to buy down debt, the economic benefit would be trivial. The primary argument in favour of debt reduction is that it will relieve the burden from our children of having to pay off the debt in the future. But as long as we don t add to the debt over the next decade through a return to deficit spending, the debt burden on the next generation will fall automatically. It already is happening. Even without a penny of actual debt retirement, the debt as a share of GDP will fall from 15% of GDP in the early 1990s, using the current debt levels, to about 8% of GDP now. In ... April 28, 2015 Alexander Pushkin and Robert Frost both have written poems about autumn. There is a correlation between these two poems since they share many romantic features. Autumn and After Apple Picking are both alike and different in many ways. Alexander Pushkin was born in Moscow, Russia and lived from 1799 until 1837. He wrote from a very young age, not only writing poetry, but also dramas and novels. He died in a duel when he was 39 years old. Autumn is a poem that contains many of the elements of romanticism. The first quality is feelings. This whole poem oozes the feelings of Pushkin. The first line is October comes at last. The feeling of relief is obvious, and there is a sense of an event finally coming. It is as if his patience was being tested and wearing thin. He could hardly wait for autumn. In the second stanza he writes, This is my time! What is the spring to me? Spring makes me ill: my mind is never free from dizzy dreams, my blood s in constant ferment. He clearly does not like the spring season at all. It is boring and there is a tone of disgust. He compares the fun and excitement of winter. There is definitely a large range between the way he feels about what spring brings and what winter brings. Winter is almost bearable to Pushkin. Winter is fun. He enjoys the activities and cold weather of the winter. In stanza four, he writes, O, summer fair! I would have loved you too, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It can be used in different types of ways. Many artists can either spray paint, carve, paste, or stencil them on a surface. From how we see them today they are usually images of random cartoons, big bubbly letters, vintage black and whites or inspirational quotes. Virtually anything colorful or not and big that can be easily spotted. Graffiti is more superior to be known as art than vandalism because it is a self expressing act. People need to be open minded about the images they see and look at the message behind it or else they will immediately criticize and say it is vandalizing property. It is a form of art not a crime. Going out of their way to trespass and damage property like fences, road barriers, or warning signs is considered a crime. Art wise, it attracts large crowds and shocks a few. It is a way to build a creative imagination and to be spontaneous. It really depends on how people look and feel about it. But there are artists that make street art which means that they are ... The Call of Duty: Black Ops ad is pretty much a mini action film with neverending gun fire and explosions, jumping from one action packed scene to another. However, instead of soldiers wielding assault rifles, shotguns, handheld missile launchers, etc. there are everyday people, hinting at the title of the ad There s a Soldier in All of Us. It was greatly anticipated that the Call of Duty: Black Ops commercial ad would exhibit the same qualities as the videogame itself. The Call of Duty: Black Ops There s a soldier in All of Us ad uses a diverse cast, over the top Hollywood style action, and thrilling music to enforce the theme of the ad, creating a mini action movie to appeal to the consumer s need and want to be a part of the action. The Call of Duty: Black Ops ad certainly incorporates the slogan There s a Soldier in All of Us into the ad with a diverse cast. The ad uses a cast of people of different ages, gender, social status, and cultural backgrounds dressed as regular everyday people in place of a cast in soldier uniforms. According to David Vinjamuri (2015), the increased diversity in television, film and advertising is based on sound marketing principles simply put, we are more likely to identify with someone that looks like us (para. 6). Energy East Pipeline Project (EEPP) Introduction and Background The focus of this project relates specifically to the Energy East Pipeline Project (EEPP) which is a large energy related infrastructure project in Canada. By extension, the implications of this discussion regarding the EEPP also involve debate regarding the future of Canada s energy independence and the character, in part, of its environmental policies. The EEPP itself is one of the largest energy infrastructure projects undertaken in Canada s history. The data indicates that the EEPP will consist of 4,600 kilometres of pipeline designed to transport crude oil in amounts up to 1.1 million barrels a day from the Alberta oil sand fields to oil refineries and marine loading facilities in New Brunswick and Quebec City.[1] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The EEPP is designed to allow Canadian interests to transport the crude oil produced from its oil sands in Alberta to other international markets. Therefore, understanding how the EEPP is merely a reflection of the oil sands development is a prerequisite to understanding the EEPP itself. Data and information already suggest that the negative environmental and health effects associated with the Alberta oil sands development are significant in which the Woodland Caribou is projected to become extinct within the entire Alberta region due to the destruction of its habitat and also the cancer rate for the First Nations people at Fort Chipewyan is 30% higher over previous levels.[5] These and associated developments over the past decade or so are revealing just how poorly managed the environmental aspects of the oil sands project are. There is a clear lack of oversight, environmental management and accountability for these types of negative outcomes. The setting of the novel takes place after World War I, previously known has the The Great War. The characters express interesting reactions to topics common during their time period and illustrate their own struggles. Class structure and social hierarchy play key roles in the novel and has certain effects on the characters. The British people during that time valued social class as extremely vital. The people in the upper class love life and enjoy themselves, but ones in the lower class have a challenging time to move up in society. Woolf illustrates how the lower class basically looks up to the wealthier and more successful people. The people the main character, Clarissa, associates with herself are all in the same class or even higher up, for example, the prime minister attends her gathering. Other characters like Miss Kilman, who Clarissa despises, and Ellie Henderson are envious of Clarissa because they are lower then her in society. However, Clarissa is not alone but mostly every single character worries about his/her social status and class whether they are making it larger, keeping it consistent, or feeling jealous of others. Flower Still Life Painting by Rachel Ruysch The exquisite colorful painting of Rachel Ruysch s Flower Still Life painting represents the Dutch tradition of flower painting in Amsterdam during the 17th century. Ruyshch s still life paintings are examples of the significant advances made in botany during the 17th century. Rachael Ruysch is a Dutch painter from (1664 1750) from Amsterdam. There are no dominant shapes; instead each one has different shape creating more of a realistic flower. The reason for this was because; flower painting in the 17th century was almost never a depiction of actual fresh flowers. Each flower has its unique shape that exemplifies a life of a flower. Some are still blooming and the others are in the process of dying, the circle of life. This painting has no geometric form but more of a naturalistic view. To balance the painting Ruysch placed highlighted blossoms and leaves against the dark left half of the canvas and silhouetted them against the light wall area on the right. We were down by two points and Coach Henkel put me in to shoot a three pointer, but both of our hopes and dreams were short lived. I missed the shot, and I lost the game for us. I was devastated, and so was everyone else. As I sat in the locker room, all I could do was stare at the ground. But that was until Coach Henkel talked to me, and told me not to worry about missing the shot. He told me everyone misses, and that he wasn t to worried. • 34. The Cartesian Theory Of Mind René Descartes was a French philosopher responsible for many ideas and theories still used in the philosophical world today. He earned the nickname Father of modern philosophy for his work. One of his most in depth and lasting legacies is his mind body dualism thesis also known as the Cartesian theory of mind. The Cartesian theory states that there are two different types of existence, physical and mental. Whatever exists must fall into only one of these existences and they cannot be both. This could be compared to the two faces of a coin, where when you flip a coin it has to be either heads or tails, when looking at the world it is either in the physical world or the mental world. Minds, however, are different from bodies. Minds are not in space, since they do not occupy space like a body does. Minds are part of mental existence. The processes of the mind are not subject to mechanical laws like bodies are. Also the workings of someone s minds are not able to be witnessed by other people, like a human body is able to be. When you use your mind and you think, imagine or feel an emotion, other people cannot see what is going on in your mind. Since the workings of one s mind are not able to be observed, this makes the minds life a private affair. This means that a person lives two lives. The first is what happens to his body and the other is what happens in his mind. What happens to the body is in the physical world while what happens in the mind is in the mental world (Ryle). The view that physical objects are in a common field (space) and mental processes occur in a isolated field known as the mind, is the ontological way, while the way that only our bodies can meet and we cannot interact with each other s minds is the epistemological way. Gilbert Ryle sees that Descartes divides a person s life into two halves, one being external and the other being internal. • 44. Analysis Of The Hurt Locker The statement, The Hurt Locker is one of the greatest war films ever made is a loaded comment that forces the viewer to consider several things. First, it requires the viewer to identify what makes a good war film: is it the action, the heroism, the filming technique, sound effect etc.? All these things are important to consider when determining the quality of a war movie. I argue that The Hurt Locker is one of the greatest war films ever made because the film reveals war s brutal side, how it removes the mundane, and its destruction of innocence, while also portraying a realistic hero that one could hope to emulate. The first reason The Hurt Locker should be considered great is because of its accurate portrayal about the horrors of war. Chris Hedges repeatedly states, [War] is peddled by mythmakers historians, war correspondents, filmmakers, novelists, and the state... that war as displayed by the entertainment industry might, in most cases, as well be ballet and it is because of this that the masses get a false sense of what war entails (Hedges 2002, pg.3, 84). The Hurt Locker does the opposite of that, director Kathryn Bigelow decides not to follow the typical structure of a war movie and elects to include the graphic images and sounds that remove the cover from this dream and reveal a nightmare. Specifically, the scene that stands out is when Staff Sargent William James finds the body of a boy who strongly resembles a friend named Beckham, which has been turned into a body bomb. Here the viewer is forced to look at the body, which is bloated due to it being stuffed with explosives, and the crude stitching used to close it. Bigelow elects to use a variety of close up and medium shots to include the reaction that Will and his squad have while staring at the body (Corrigan 2015). This alone is enough to make the viewer uncomfortable, but where she truly excels is during Will s removal of the bomb. Hedges states that one of the requirement to wake us up from the typical film is the deafening and disturbing noise (Hedges 2002, pg.84). Bigelow accomplishes this during the bomb removal by adding a loud snap every time Will cuts a suture (Bigelow 2009). Now, even if a person attempts to look away, this ... The movement from an authoritarian government system of the PRI to the liberal democracy initiated by the election victory of the National Action Party, (PAN), candidate, Vicente Fox, in 2000, disrupted the status quo. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The DFS was supposed to fight drugs but one of the founders, Senator Colonel Carlos Serrano, was tied to the drug cartels. His appointment provided a direct link between the ruling political party and the drug cartels ensuring a flow of profits to government officials in exchange for protection and also mitigated the need for drug traffickers to participate in politics. This collaborative arrangement produced several decades of minimal drug related violence which was directed at opposing groups and did not affect the general population. Social changes in the United States during the 1960s and 1970 accompanied increased consumption of marijuana and later cocaine use became more widespread in the 19080s. The proliferation of drug use in American society prompted a change in the political view on drugs and the United States government declared war on drugs. The U.S. government focused on the drug producing and trafficking nations and pressured those nations into joining the war . Mexico was pressured into heightening its efforts to combat drugs which included military operations to destroy drug trade and growing fields. These efforts focused on migrant workers forced into labor by the drug lords, barely disrupting the cartel s operations. Due to this it enabled the Soviet forces to break through the German lines during the winter of 1942 and destroy the 6th and 4th Panzer Armies. This was a loss that the Germans could not fully recover from. Relating this back to the question, the loss of two major divisions would impact on both the morality of the Soviet and German forces, it would also stop the Germans from advancing in that route. A second point to consider is the lack of Air superiority within the German forces, due to the fact that the Luftwaffe did not have long range bomber, this stopped them from attacking the Russian sources of production and as a result we can see that the Soviets were able to out produce the Germans in weapons.
