The Radicalization Of Terrorist Groups
1. How can extremist groups treat fellow human beings with such cruelty?
When we think of a person who joins a terrorist group we think that they must be a psychopath or
suffer from some form of mental illness. There has to be something wrong with that individual to be
so easily swayed into a group that is so violent and has no regard for human life. However, classic
studies like those performed by Milgram and Zimbardo proved that even stable, well adjusted
individuals can be capable of inflicting serious harm on fellow human beings without any regret.
These studies proved anyone put into the right circumstances could be lead to treat their fellow human
beings with extreme cruelty, dehumanization, or even death. Therefore, the majority of ... Show more

However, many members are possibly just as ordinary as you or me. Radicalization does not happen
simply by listening nor by an individual s experiences but if you combine the two they amplify each
other and a terrorist could be born. The process of co radicalization was an important factor I learned
from this paper. I do not think any of us realize that as a society the West contributes to the making of
a terrorist. Muslims are drawn to the West as a society of freedom and the land of opportunity.
However, just because there are Muslim we profile and discriminate against them. In doing this most
people do not understand that we are basically radicalizing them ourselves. Terrorism is all about
division and this puts a big divide between us and the Muslim communities. Leaders and politicians of
the West that use aggressive tactics also fuel terrorism. This was made very clear when al Qaeda
reaired Donald Trump s reaction to Muslim immigration. This article has been very beneficial for me
because I am one of those that feel that we need to take on ISIS in a more aggressive manner.
However, after learning about the research regarding radicalization and group dynamics in this article
I have gained a better understanding of terrorism and how it works. As David Rothkopf wrote after the
Paris massacres last November, overreaction is precisely the wrong response to terrorism. And it s
exactly what terrorists want.... It does the work of the terrorists for the terrorists. I think this says it

Similarities Between Rome And Carthage
Carthage was the first real foreign power Rome would come across outside of Italy, its origins from a
Tyre colony to the capital of the great commercial empire in northern Africa (Morey, 1901) are lost to
the ravages of time. The journey discussed below will be the similarities with Rome in its rise to
power, and how Rome was able to become a force of the Sea as well as on land. Body
Rome and Carthage shared many aspects when the two first clash. Carthage had two chief magistrates
referred to as Suffetes, which compared to the political power of the Roman consuls, a council of
elders named the hundred, which was similar to the Roman senate, and there was a Carthaginian
assembly, the consistency resembled the Roman comitia (Morey, 1901). This is where the similarities
end for Carthaginian, ruled by a few wealthy families, the Carthaginians did not integrate their
subjects into the state, and they did not have the great loyalty of its citizens that Rome enjoyed. By
placing its army under the command of a single permanent leader, Carthage created an overwhelming
advantage to Rome, which had its armies controlled by the ever changing civil magistrates and
consuls (Morey, 1901).
Carthage gained her power through the wealth of trade and commere, bringing the northern African
colonies and cities of Sicily under control, solidified her dominance in the Mediterranean. Through
wealth comes strength and the ability to obtain more wealth by expanding one s territory, which
brought Carthage to desire the Greek cities of Italy also (Morey, 1901). The very cities bordering
Rome, leading to the beginning of hostilities between Carthage and Rome.
To compare Rome and Carthage, the strength and resources available to both are close enough to
make the war last a long time. Carthage was wealthy, yet not as organized as Rome. Carthage ruled
the sea with its fearful navy, Rome had the terrifying army. Carthage might have had the superior
leaders, but Rome had more loyal citizens ready to jump into the fray. The Carthaginians could be best
described as a people that loved to win, where the Romans would be better defined as people that
hated to lose. (Kornell, 2012).
The first battles between Rome and Carthage are

Lois Scélérates s Three Laws
Lois Scélérates is a series of three laws adopted by the French government in the 1890s. The three
laws had, broadly, the following effects. Firstly, limitations on the press was expanded by condemning
not only provocative messages (as in the earlier Law on the Press) but for merely having defended
crimes . Secondly, those who had any direct or indirect links to the planning or conduct of crimes
against persona or property were now subject to criminal punishment. Lastly, that those charged under
these new laws were to be tried in a police magistrate separate from the courts if they were deemed to
possess anarchist inclinations. The first of these laws was issued mere days after August Vaillant s

Similarities And Differences Of The Boston Massacre And...
There are many differences and similarities between the Boston Massacre and the Kent State shooting.
One similarity between the two are that both the students and the colonist were throwing rocks and
calling the the soldiers unpoliet names. Both the Ohio National Guard and the British Soldiers fired at
the students and colonist. Also both the National Guard and the British soldiers carried bayonets. Both
protests were strong enough that proper authorities had to come in and help maintain the crowd who
were protesting. The protesters both went to a bar before they started to protest. Now I m going to start
talking about some differences. There are many similarities; however, there are also many differences.
To start, the Boston Massacre started because the colonist didn t want to pay taxes (Townshend Act)
unless they had representatives in parliament. The colonist were having to pay for land that they were
not allowed to use, they also had to pay taxes for the British soldiers to come to the colonies. It only
made the colonist more mad when they had to pay for the British soldiers to come to the colonies. The
Kent state shooting happened because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Women Of Ancient Greek Vs. Athenian Women
Women in Ancient Greece Differences Ancient Greece is a country that houses two of the most
infamous societies in the world known as the Spartans and the Athenians. Women of ancient Sparta
were known as strong minded women who enjoyed more freedom than Athenian women. Although
Spartan women were to a certain extent dependent on men, they had some influence in men s politics,
which poses the question: in what form did they influenced the decisions made by Greek men? Much
like Spartan women, the Athenian women had a similar role to play in their men s lives, such as wives
and courtesan, These were other classes of women though, which were less respectable than a citizen s
wife known as hetaera; According to (Jorgen Christian Meyer). They were given more freedom and
were normally educated in conversation, singing and dancing, which were ways of pleasing men in
those eras. Moreover, women in ancient Greece such as courtesan women could not marry Spartan
men, nor could courtesan women marry Athens men as these women were not respected as wives but
were the mistresses of the husband. The Spartan women served as wives and were the only women
able to give birth to Spartan children. This is in opposition to the other Spartan women who just
served as mingling entertainment for the Spartan men s leisure. According to Kay O Pry, Aristotle
writes, Among Spartans in the days of their greatness; many things were managed by their women,
and Aristotle felt that the influence of

The Struggles Of Women s Equality
Historically, women had to fight for their rights to vote and the right to gain economic or personal
independence like men. Women have been subjected to unequal treatment and discrimination
regardless of their race, culture or socioeconomic status. From birth boys and girls, male and female
are expected by society to play certain roles based on gender, religions and other beliefs. Gender
stereotypes have enforced the difference between men and women, it labels women as weak,
submissive, they should be taking care of the household etc. Hence, most women lose opportunities
because they are perceived as vulnerable and unable to participate in certain activities. The struggles
of women s equality started in the 1800s where women in the United States wanted equal rights to
vote and have equal job opportunity like men. It is not right for one gender to be superior over the
other. Hence, women such as Susan B. Anthony who drafted The Declaration of Sentiments and
Resolutions demanded equality for women to be educated and gain employment. Cady Stanton along
with Susan Anthony formed the National Woman Suffrage Association, Lucy Stone and Henry
Blackwell amongst others formed the American Women Suffrage Association demanding voting rights
for women. The declaration of independence states that, all men are created equal and has the right to
life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (The Declaraton of Independence, 1776). With all the efforts

Application Of A Cuk Topology For Power Factor Correction...
ABSTRACT This paper deals with a Cuk Topology for Power Factor Correction (PFC). Most of the
front end PFC converters are designed using diode bridge and has lower efficiency due to losses with
reduced power factor. The current flow, during each intervals of the switching cycle reduces the
conduction losses compared to the conventional Cuk PFC Rectifier. The converter also provides
protection against inrush current occurring at start up, decreases input current ripple and reduces
Electromagnetic Interference (EMI).It works in the Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM) to
provide almost unity power factor and low distortions in the input current. To analyse the performance
of this converter, a model based on the CUK topology has been designed by using MATLAB/
SIMULINK software and implemented with Proportional Integral (PI) and Fuzzy logic controller.
Keywords: CUK Bridgeless Topology, Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC), Power Factor Correction
(PFC), Proportional Integral (PI) Controller.

Brushless DC (BLDC) motors are used for many low and medium power drives applications due to
their high efficiency, high flux density per unit volume, low maintenance requirement, low EMI
problems, high ruggedness and a range of speed control. The commutation in PMBLDCM is
accomplished by solid state switches of a three phase voltage source inverter (VSI). There is a
necessity of an improved power quality (PQ) as per the

The Battle Of Pea Ridge
The Battle of Pea Ridge and the Significance of Field Artillery The deployment of Field Artillery has
been the deciding factor in almost every major conflict since the inception of Field Artillery. The
Battle of Pea Ridge is no different. This conflict serves as a perfect example of how the proper use of
terrain and well placed artillery can alter the course of battle. Despite overwhelming opposition, the
Union Army was not only able to stop the advancement of enemy troops but forced their retreat.
Area of Operation
The Battle of Pea Ridge took place at Elkhorn Mountain, outside of Pea Ridge, Arkansas. The
battlefield spanned 4,300 acres across multiple terrains. The large area mixed with rough terrain made

This was a tremendous issue for the Confederates as the only carried one blanket per person. Many
Confederate died on the march to Bentonville prior to the start of the battle.
Background
The Battle of Pea Ridge, also known as the Battle of Elkhorn Tavern, was a part of a larger campaign
to win control of Missouri during the Civil War. Seven months prior to Pea Ridge, the Union had
suffered a loss at Wilson s Creek. In an effort to gain footing after this loss, the Union Army followed
the Confederates south into Arkansas. The Union and Confederate Army s clashed on 7 March 1862,
ending in Union victory by the following day.
The Union Army (Army of the Southwest) The Union Army at Pea Ridge was lead by Brigadier
General Samuel R. Curtis. Shortly after the loss at Wilson s Creek, Union Major General Henry W.
Halleck appointed Curtis Commander of the Army of the Southwest. Curtis immediately set on an
offensive against the Confederate forces with his 10,500 men and 44 guns. He chased down the
Confederates in Springfield, Missouri. However, the Confederates, seeing that they were
outnumbered, fled to Arkansas to consolidate with reinforcements.
The Confederate Army (Army of the West) Major General Sterling Price commanded about 8,500
Confederates. Following the Confederate victory at Wilson s Creek, Price s men awaited orders in
Springfield, Missouri when they heard that Curtis was leading 10,500 Union soldiers against them.

Dave Eggers Zeitoun Character Analysis
In Dave Eggers Zeitoun, a personal recount of hurricane katrina is told that includes chaos, loss, and
the importance of family. The author uses Zeitoun s story to implicitly tell his own personal views
across to the reader. Eggers uses literary devices and rhetorical tools to do this. It s important to note
in this book that these are the author s view and that you must choose to separate them from the story
or not. In my opinion, the falsity of media is the most resonating argument, The authors capitalizes on
Zeitoun and his family s background to fulfill this idea. Throughout the book, Egger s personal
opinion of the media is revealed as the story continues and the characters see for the distortion. One
piece of the distortion of reality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hyperbolic and racially charged news coverage is described throughout the book. On page 124,
Kathy tells Zeitoun over the phone of the news about looting and killing, but he hadn t seen anything
like the chaos she described. He goes on to say, If it existed at all.. This reveals that both Egger s and
Zeitoun know you cannot believe everything the news says. SInce the reader has been with Zeitoun
through the whole ordeal, the reader is also unaware of any dangers, if any. This adds to the
underlying feeling that the media is exaggerating the aftermath. Further into Zeitoun s exploration he
comes across a body and a helicopter hovering as he describes, A man was pointing a camera at the
body. He did so for a few more minutes and then the helicopter rose, tilted, and drifted off. This
language and casual feeling in the quote make it obvious it is a media helicopter that has no intention
to check on the body and see if it s okay. A rhetorical question leads into this quote, instilling hope in
the reader to be immediately let down. The nonchalant of the interaction exposes how distant the
coverage is to the scene. It makes the reader realize Egger s strong disdain for the media. In my final
example, Zeitoun is interviewed by a man with a video camera on page 167. The inclusion of the short
interview and the even shorter sentences

However, the economy seems to be recovering faster than economists had originally predicted. With
GDP and consumer spending up year over year, we feel that the worst is behind us and growth will
continue globally through 2012. As unemployment starts to fall and credit starts to loosen up, we feel
consumers will continue to increase their spending.
Although this may sound good for the brewing industry, this may not be so. In 2008, when the
recession was at its peak, beer sales increased more than wine sales for the first time in nearly a
decade. We can compare this event to Wal Mart, who benefits during recessionary periods due to their
cheap prices. But as the economy recovers and consumer spending increases, the upward trend in wine
sales is likely to continue, putting pressure on breweries to increase sales by decreasing prices. This
price war is harmful to the industry, and has a negative effect on profit margin.

reached a pinnacle. At the same time, it shows no signs of decline, therefore

Low Genetic Diversity and its Contribution to DFTD
A carnivorous marsupial, the Tasmanian Devil, has been suffering greatly from DFTD (devil facial

Tasmanian devils have low genetic diversity, and this factor contributes to why DFTD is so immensely
affecting this population. The Tasmanian Devil s low genetic may have been caused by the widespread
killing of the marsupial by bounty hunters, leaving the species with descendants from the same small
population. This resulting low genetic diversity from not having a very diverse selection of mates
leads to small variation in the genes for their immune systems, which may contribute to the rapid

Education And Academic Achievement Gap
Anna, a young first grader, squeals with delight as the whistle blows to announce the end of recess.
What may seem as a sad end to the best part of the day for most students fills Anna with complete joy.
Why? Anna is on the way to her favorite class music. Anna enjoys it because she likes to sing, but
what she does not know is that the class that she enjoys the most is also extremely beneficial to her
academic and social life. Sadly, for many students, art classes are not commonly offered due to cost or
the perception that art education is unimportant. Although seen as less important than core subjects, art
education should be a part of basic curriculum because of its academic and social benefits for students.
Many people believe that schools should focus on excelling on standardized testing, such as state tests
and college entrance exams, and lowering the academic achievement gap. After all, these
examinations are major factors in students future decisions and schools academic success greatly
affects their overall achievement. Focusing on standardized testing is important; however, basic
courses such as English, mathematics, and science are not the only subjects that are beneficial when
preparing for these tests. In a study prepared by the President s Committee on the Arts and Humanities

that they had reduced the reading gap by fourteen percent and the mathematics gap

Political Parties Disadvantages
A political party is an alliance of like minded people who work together to win elections and control
of the government. Political parties compete against one another for political power and for the ability
to put their philosophies and policies into effect. Political parties are therefore essential institution in
modern democratic politics. By definition, competitive party systems contain at least two important
parties, but they sometimes have many more. Hence, the simplest distinction to make is between two
party and multi party systems. Caribbean politics is typified by a two party completion. Jamaica is the
classic case of the British style two party model, it is the only country in which two large parties
competed under the first general election; in which there was a perfect record of two party alternation
in government between 1944 and 1980; and where third parties and independent candidates never
posed a challenge to the established parties namely Peoples National party (PNP). The Jamaican
system has been the best example of a two party system.
Advantage of competitive party system in Jamaica
It creates a linkage and shape democratic policy. This system shapes the electoral linkages between
citizen and policy makers / government. Moreover, parties are a means through which constitutional
arrangements developed and shape democratic policy making. These democratic policy making are
inclusive of constitutional reforms, new labor laws,

For this collection he is using artwork of sixteenth century leaders as Rubens and Caravaggio as a

Effective Use Of Irony In Oedipus The King
Oedipus the King is destined to be a hero, king, leader for the people of Thebes, but his greed gets the
best of him. He thought that nothing could ever happen to him, that none of the prophecies could ever
come true. Later on in the story he was told that his dad had died of old age, instead of grief he
triumphed knowing that the prophecy that he would kill his father didn t come true. In the story
Oedipus The King, there are three forms of irony used in the play, situational, dramatic, and verbal,
they all play into the fall of Oedipus the King.
Oedipus quests to lift the plague that haunts over their city. An example of situational is ` not only to
find out he needs to track down an assassin, who turns out to be himself is an example of situational. It
is no secret. Apollo once prophesied that I would lie with my own mother and with these hands kill

Monomyth In The Lion King
Rebecca and Phillip Stein (2017) discuss monomyth, a hero s journey, in their book Anthropology of
Religion, Magic, and Witchcraft. In the text, they use the definition of a monomyth given by Joseph
Campbell. Campbell defines it as when A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a
region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won:
the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow
man. (Stein Stein, 2017.) According to the text, a hero s journey has three stages: the departure, the
initiation, and the return. (Stein and Stein, 2017.) The Disney movie, The Lion King, is a monomyth
movie about a young lion who abandons his role as king of the Pride lands and must come back to
save his family and his land when danger ensues. Simba is the son of Mufasa, the current king,
therefore he is the rightful heir to the throne. This is the common day world that Simba lives in. His
uncle, Scar, is filled with hatred towards both Simba and Mufasa, because he believes he deserves to
be king. He comes up with an elaborate plan to kill them both. He tricks Simba into thinking that his
father has a surprise for him, and he instructs Simba to wait inside of a canyon while he fetches his
Mufasa. Scar deliberately starts a stampede of wildebeests to try and kill Simba. Mufasa arrives to the
canyon to witness Simba clinging for his life, on a lone shrub s branch, as thousands of

Are Children Growing Up Too fast Essay
ESSAY ARE CHILDREN GROWING UP TOO FAST? I. SECTION 1 INTRODUCTION A
multiplicity of literature is available through recent researches which suggest that the current
generation of teenagers is very different from children their ages in the past, given new manifestations
in their behaviors when compared with their previous generations. Is this true or not? A compelling
argument will be made by this Author to show that in his perception that children are growing up too

My own experiences having raised three children, two girls and a boy have shown that access by them
to technology such as the computer, other technological devices and access to the internet and
television programming have contributed to aspects of their own self development which were not
available to their predecessors and in my own considered judgment, based on these developments
allow for a level of maturity beyond their young ages. Given the observations on growing p too fast,
as discussed above and inclusive of research and findings by Hymowitz (1998) which articulated on
trends observed n the society in which his daughter grew up, supporting discussions by the Sunday
Sun ( 2011); Hughes (2009); Wilson ( 2008) and my own experiences in observing the phenomena of
children maturing at an earlier age than their predecessors, I submit and support the thesis statement
that children are growing up much faster currently than their predecessors based on the evidence
provided in the discussion which support such conclusions. III. SECTION 3 CONCLUSION The
phenomena of young children developing a more matured status as opposed to their predecessors have
been noted by a number of researchers. This development have been attributed to a number of factors
related to technology, exposure to activities through various technological means which enhance their
own education and even the attitude by parents, which allow for a more matured

In period of time, almost every kid in US had a yoyo. The yo yo boom unfortunately ended when
Duncan went bankrupt in the late 1960s, expensive lawsuit to protect the yo yo trademark from
competitors forced the Duncan family out of business. Flambeau Products, who made Duncan s
plastic yo yo models, then took over the company and still owns it to this day (Duncan Toys Company
A Division of Flambeau 2008).
One of Duncan s successful marketing strategies was in 1995, TV advertisement with the Video Boy
commercial which airs nationwide. Commercial positioned yo yo as the more exciting option to video
games and swiped the globe including Australia, Britain and Japan to become yo yo hotspots. In 1997,
Duncan enters into a licensing agreement with Coca Cola, producing 18 different designs and in 2002,
Duncan purchased the assets of Playmaxx Inc and officially securing its position as the number one Yo
yo manufacturer in the world (Duncan Toys Company A Division of Flambeau 2008).
In a fast pace technology world, yo yo s popularity among the kids continue to decrease with other
substitutes of more advanced fun games and toys (ABC Transcript 2003). The Duncan name and
trademark has continued to be marketed in anticipation of its next comeback.

I Am A College Student
I m a college student on a typical college student s budget, and I moved into my apartment about a
year ago. Let me tell you this, I just now decorated my room. Yes, I spent an entire year staring at
stark white walls, with nothing but last years calendar and my celebrity crush of the moment hanging
o the wall beside my bed. There s nothing inviting about an undecorated room, in fact it s sort of
depressing, and I wouldn t recommend it to anyone. No matter what your budget, decorating is
important and can be done. Here s how I gave my room a personal touch for less than $100. Like most
people the first thing I thought of to decorate my walls with were pictures. Little did I know how
expensive pictures could be. I first looked for framed pictures at discount retailers like Target, figuring
I could get a good deal. Wrong. Even their smaller pictures cost about $30, and while that isn t really
expensive, it was just a tad bit more than I wanted to spend on one item. I did come across a rather
small rectangular picture for $10 in the sale bin at Rite Aid, and a matching pillar candle for the same
price at Kmart, but those items ended up in my bathroom so they don t count towards the total for my
room. The point is, however, that we can t discriminate against those really cheap shops. To find good
pictures for a really low price I recommend going to unexpected places, such as Rite Aid. Believe it or
not, you might just find one or two items you like. If all else fails,

Strategic Challenges And The Global Security Environment
The central problem discussed in this paper is to determine the general capabilities needed to
rebalance the Joint Force 2025 (JF25) considering the current strategic challenges and the global
security environment. This paper proposes that the JF25 focus on its competitive advantages and
curtail ineffective and expensive programs to preserve its ground forces capability to provide
deterrence and defeat capabilities critical to our National Strategic Objectives. To support this
position, this paper articulates the emerging threats to U.S. National Interests and highlights the key
strategic direction of published Department of Defense (DoD) strategy and strategic concepts.
Secondly, this proposal provides the broad capabilities that the JF25 must aggregate from each service
of the DoD. Finally, this paper articulates and mitigates the inherent risks to its proposed capabilities.
The emerging threats to U.S. National Interests are several. At the same time, sequestration magnifies
the criticality of miscalculated capability decisions. The persistent threat trends of 2025 include the
proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, the rise of modern competitor states, violent extremism,
irregular warfare, regional instability, transnational criminal activity, competition for resources, and
lone actors. The National Military Strategy (NMS) of 2015 breaks down future threats into the
categories of revisionist states and violent extremist organizations, while recognizing the

A Case Of A High Profile Customer
1.0 Introduction
The report will be based on a case study of a high profile customer, Agatha, whose account was
debited with $1,000,000 using an online service at Trustworthy Bank and Trust (TBT). In this case,
TBT applies Triple Data Encryption Standard (3DES) in carrying out transactions. On receiving a
message that her account, has been debited with $1,000,000 she contacted the bank manager, Jessica,
on the account that the transaction was a forgery. However, the bank manager provided information
authorizing her to transfer money to an offshore bank in the Cayman Islands. This was supported by
encrypted message, Thanks for your many years of fine service, Jessica. Please transfer $1,000,000
from my account to yours as a token of my esteem and appreciation; Signed Agatha. The message was
provided by Cayman on Jessica s request. However, the client filed against TBT, bank manager
(Jessica) and Cayman Island on account that the transaction was a forgery engineered by Jessica. On
the other hand, TBT bank sued Agatha on account that all procedures were followed.
As such, the report will seek to identify the ways that the bank would have prevented the controversy
from occurring. Additionally, the report will highlight the responsibility of Cayman Island in
determining whether the transaction was bogus or not. Moreover, the report will propose ways of
improving 3DES security performance to eliminate controversy in future. Lastly, the report will

Tennis Balloon Research Paper
Currently, all tennis balls are packaged in cylinders which hold four balls. Although this is an
innovative idea, there is a lot of wasted space in the cylinders and in the square box that it is packaged
in. In this investigation, another idea for a container will be shown with a list of advantages and
disadvantages. The aim is to create a new container for tennis balls that has a comparable surface area
and wasted space to that of the cylinder containers currently used. Another container that could be
used instead of a cylinder is a rectangular prism as shown below. This investigation will use
measurement to calculate the surface area and volume of 3D objects, including a sphere and cylinder.

This assumption was proven to be incorrect as the wasted space was calculated to be much over
4000cm3. Another assumption made was that the square box with rectangular prisms inside would
have a considerably smaller amount of wasted space compared to the cylinder, but a small amount of
wasted space would exist. As shown in the previous working out, there was no wasted space in the
square box with the rectangular prisms. A final assumption made in part A was the dimensions of the
cylindrical container. In part B, it was presumed that the points would be scattered loosely around the
line of best fit. After creating the scatter plot, it was understood that the points were closely scattered
around the line of best fit and a realisation that there could be a formula to calculate the results quicker
was brought into consideration. Also, another assumption was that the amount of wasted space would
not be a significant amount. After calculating, it was notable that the wasted space was more than half
of the volume of the

the Han dynasty. The two civilizations both were exposed to new religions, though they were engaged
in two different types of religions. One similarity between the Roman Empire and the Han Dynasty is

the senators, equestrians, aristocrats, magistrates, merchants, soldiers, artisans, manual laborers, freed

Congo’s Era of Damnation
In the year 1885, King Leopold II of Belgium imperialized the Independent State of the Congo.
Leopold set the area up under his own personal rule. His rule was an extremely negative and very
unwanted thing that plunged the area into an era of damnation.
The early history of the congo really starts in 150 AD. The indigenous immigrants to the Congo, who
were most likely Pygmies, had migrated from the northern area to the savannah regions in the south
now called DROC, or Democratic Republic of the Congo (Clarke, John H). These immigrants brought
agriculture, and made iron tools. Moving ahead to 1482, the Portuguese navigator, Diogo Cão visited
the Congo River marking the first ever known European contact with the region. Henry Stanley, a
British explorer is commanded to proclaim King Leopold s rule over the Congo in 1879. This is
followed by European powers at the Berlin Conference who recognised Leopold s claim to the Congo
basin and he announces the establishment of the Congo Free State headed by himself (Democratic
Republic of...), thus beginning Leopold s era of tyranny. Leopold s purpose of controlling the Congo
was for the vast amount of resources such as ivory, rubber, and copper. In 1887, J.B. Dunlop s
invention of inflatable, rubber, bicycle tires and the rapid increase in the popularity of the automobile,
caused the demand for rubber to increase dramatically. Now sensing an opportunity, Leopold issued
three decrees in 1881 and 1882 collectively saying that

Colleges Should Require Class Attendance
Does your attendance record reflect your final grade in college? No not because the professor will
mark you down a certain percentage of your grade, but because of the relationship between students
that show up for class and the ones that regularly skip. When I started attending college, I was a bit
confused why such a large percentage of students weren t attending class. It seemed as the quarter
moved further along, class attendance went down. After spending a bit of time on google, I found a
few statistics that reflect why I believe class attendance should be mandatory. On the contrary, some
students will say that they should have the freedom to decide if they want to go to class, because they
are now adults. However, to improve students grades and school drop out rates. Colleges should
require class attendance. Building in class continuity will help prepare young adults for the work
world and requiring class attendance will help develop students for a thriving career. Fortunately, in
grade school you are required to go to school. If you don t there will be some form of consequences.
However, once students enter college they now have the choice of attending class, thus, teaching
inconsistency. Doing so holds back other students in the class ... Show more content on

Students should see that it is for their own good to show up for class. If colleges made class
mandatory, it would help improve students` grades and confidence in themselves. Also, students
would have more consistency in their lives and in the class they would now be attending daily. Instead
of inconsistent continuity, you can grow into a mature adult. A relationship can grow between your
teacher and fellow students. In the future, I have hope that anyone that has influence on this topic, will
succor our students for their future and see that mandatory attendance will turn young adults in school
to becoming sleepers in their chosen fields of

The Influence Of Fashion Codes In American Beauty Culture
Photos of youthful, skinny ladies (and teens) are seen all over TV, magazines, social media sites and
even kids toys like Barbie and Ken, dolls and puppets. These pictures portray what the perfect women
should look like in American Beauty Culture. Society today has ladies (and teens) being either skinny
and starving or stout and full. I know numerous women, I included, who think they are ugly in light of
the width of their clothes. According to Fatema Mernissi in Size 6: The Western Women s Harem, she
believes that the American fashion industry is controlled by men and is used as a way to dictate ...what
women should wear and how they should look (278). This does not just apply to women and teenage
girls; this can be seen with the image being portrayed as the perfect man and teenage boys.
In today s world, the lifestyle of a person is strongly influenced by the media culture who set the
trends. It should be noted that it is not something that is coerced on people but transpires due to peer
pressure and the urge of wanting to be considered beautiful by following the trends of the era. In this
paper, we will set a discourse concerning how dress codes of American women have been profoundly
influenced by the Fashion industry. From Mernissi s awful encounter with a saleslady in a New York
department store, we can see that the fashion industry has pushed a store to carry only what they
consider to be an average female size of 4 or 6. This is a problem that has invaded

Censoring The Censorship Of Media
Cesar Ortega

English, Period 8th

Censoring In the 21st century the censoring of media should be scarce but in the contrary it s being
reinforce by countries. For instance, the act of censoring gay media hurts all those individuals who are
members of the LGBT community and those who wish to learn more about the LGBT community and
its history. It prevents people who wish to find more resources and information that might be able to
change their life for the better. Censoring gay medial is okay when it promotes hatred and violence but

Is not just one country that makes it impossible for gay people to be free and openly gay, there are
dozens. It s a real shame to see that many governments are ignorant enough to believe that
imprisonment of gay people will solve the problems their country possesses. When countries like
Cameron have laws that punish people for being gay there is also expected for those countries to
censor websites and media the show gay couples or LGBT resources. In a very similar way is Uganda
s Rolling stone newspaper publishes photographs of gay people with the headline Hang Them, They
are after Our Kids: Pictures of Top 100 Homos (Oates). Having a government that supports
discrimination towards gay people makes it impossible for anyone to be willing to speak out loud to
try to stop the injustices toward the LGBT community. The people fear that if they speak up they
would be putting their life at risk. In a society where the persecution of gay people is vastly supported
there is not a lot of resources available for people to understand that gay people are being
misrepresented with the wrong convictions. As is also well known in Russia where Anti free speech
laws targeting homosexuals are sweeping Russian cities (Antonova).Though Russia might not directly
punish gay people for being gay, they are suppressing their rights that allow them to express
themselves. With laws that are intended to prevent gay people

with the use of the management/leadership guidelines provided.
Summary
This memo will also review the pros of each guideline to change the department. The use of the
guideline can drastically change the success rate of how this fire department operates.
Discussion
There are 8 guidelines for management/ leadership which are participation, communication,
competence, satisfaction, reviews, coordination, norms, and goals. There are a variety of different
ways by using these guidelines that can improve this fire department. Such as, participation which can
greatly impact the outcome and service that this department provides. Also, participation can
encourage the crews to work together as a team to fulfill the mission statement that the department has

effective fire department. A simple training exercise can enhance each firefighter skill in
communicating, employees can always benefit from this no matter what age they are or how many
years they have been in the fire service. Next, reviewing items are important in the fire service
because this career is always changing and improving. Reviewing not only shows the department what

  • 2. The Radicalization Of Terrorist Groups 1. How can extremist groups treat fellow human beings with such cruelty? When we think of a person who joins a terrorist group we think that they must be a psychopath or suffer from some form of mental illness. There has to be something wrong with that individual to be so easily swayed into a group that is so violent and has no regard for human life. However, classic studies like those performed by Milgram and Zimbardo proved that even stable, well adjusted individuals can be capable of inflicting serious harm on fellow human beings without any regret. These studies proved anyone put into the right circumstances could be lead to treat their fellow human beings with extreme cruelty, dehumanization, or even death. Therefore, the majority of ... Radicalization does not happen simply by listening nor by an individual s experiences but if you combine the two they amplify each other and a terrorist could be born. The process of co radicalization was an important factor I learned from this paper. I do not think any of us realize that as a society the West contributes to the making of a terrorist. Muslims are drawn to the West as a society of freedom and the land of opportunity. However, just because there are Muslim we profile and discriminate against them. In doing this most people do not understand that we are basically radicalizing them ourselves. Terrorism is all about division and this puts a big divide between us and the Muslim communities. Leaders and politicians of the West that use aggressive tactics also fuel terrorism. This was made very clear when al Qaeda reaired Donald Trump s reaction to Muslim immigration. This article has been very beneficial for me because I am one of those that feel that we need to take on ISIS in a more aggressive manner. However, after learning about the research regarding radicalization and group dynamics in this article I have gained a better understanding of terrorism and how it works. As David Rothkopf wrote after the Paris massacres last November, overreaction is precisely the wrong response to terrorism. And it s exactly what terrorists want.... • 3. Similarities Between Rome And Carthage Carthage was the first real foreign power Rome would come across outside of Italy, its origins from a Tyre colony to the capital of the great commercial empire in northern Africa (Morey, 1901) are lost to the ravages of time. The journey discussed below will be the similarities with Rome in its rise to power, and how Rome was able to become a force of the Sea as well as on land. Body Rome and Carthage shared many aspects when the two first clash. Carthage had two chief magistrates referred to as Suffetes, which compared to the political power of the Roman consuls, a council of elders named the hundred, which was similar to the Roman senate, and there was a Carthaginian assembly, the consistency resembled the Roman comitia (Morey, 1901). This is where the similarities end for Carthaginian, ruled by a few wealthy families, the Carthaginians did not integrate their subjects into the state, and they did not have the great loyalty of its citizens that Rome enjoyed. By placing its army under the command of a single permanent leader, Carthage created an overwhelming advantage to Rome, which had its armies controlled by the ever changing civil magistrates and consuls (Morey, 1901). Carthage gained her power through the wealth of trade and commere, bringing the northern African colonies and cities of Sicily under control, solidified her dominance in the Mediterranean. Through wealth comes strength and the ability to obtain more wealth by expanding one s territory, which brought Carthage to desire the Greek cities of Italy also (Morey, 1901). The very cities bordering Rome, leading to the beginning of hostilities between Carthage and Rome. To compare Rome and Carthage, the strength and resources available to both are close enough to make the war last a long time. Carthage was wealthy, yet not as organized as Rome. Carthage ruled the sea with its fearful navy, Rome had the terrifying army. Carthage might have had the superior leaders, but Rome had more loyal citizens ready to jump into the fray. The Carthaginians could be best described as a people that loved to win, where the Romans would be better defined as people that hated to lose. (Kornell, 2012). • 5. Similarities And Differences Of The Boston Massacre And... There are many differences and similarities between the Boston Massacre and the Kent State shooting. One similarity between the two are that both the students and the colonist were throwing rocks and calling the the soldiers unpoliet names. Both the Ohio National Guard and the British Soldiers fired at the students and colonist. Also both the National Guard and the British soldiers carried bayonets. Both protests were strong enough that proper authorities had to come in and help maintain the crowd who were protesting. The protesters both went to a bar before they started to protest. Now I m going to start talking about some differences. There are many similarities; however, there are also many differences. To start, the Boston Massacre started because the colonist didn t want to pay taxes (Townshend Act) unless they had representatives in parliament. The colonist were having to pay for land that they were not allowed to use, they also had to pay taxes for the British soldiers to come to the colonies. • 8. Women Of Ancient Greek Vs. Athenian Women Women in Ancient Greece Differences Ancient Greece is a country that houses two of the most infamous societies in the world known as the Spartans and the Athenians. Women of ancient Sparta were known as strong minded women who enjoyed more freedom than Athenian women. Although Spartan women were to a certain extent dependent on men, they had some influence in men s politics, which poses the question: in what form did they influenced the decisions made by Greek men? Much like Spartan women, the Athenian women had a similar role to play in their men s lives, such as wives and courtesan, These were other classes of women though, which were less respectable than a citizen s wife known as hetaera; According to (Jorgen Christian Meyer). They were given more freedom and were normally educated in conversation, singing and dancing, which were ways of pleasing men in those eras. Moreover, women in ancient Greece such as courtesan women could not marry Spartan men, nor could courtesan women marry Athens men as these women were not respected as wives but were the mistresses of the husband. The Spartan women served as wives and were the only women able to give birth to Spartan children. This is in opposition to the other Spartan women who just served as mingling entertainment for the Spartan men s leisure. According to Kay O Pry, Aristotle writes, Among Spartans in the days of their greatness; many things were managed by their women, and Aristotle felt that the influence of ... • 9. The Struggles Of Women s Equality Historically, women had to fight for their rights to vote and the right to gain economic or personal independence like men. Women have been subjected to unequal treatment and discrimination regardless of their race, culture or socioeconomic status. From birth boys and girls, male and female are expected by society to play certain roles based on gender, religions and other beliefs. Gender stereotypes have enforced the difference between men and women, it labels women as weak, submissive, they should be taking care of the household etc. Hence, most women lose opportunities because they are perceived as vulnerable and unable to participate in certain activities. The struggles of women s equality started in the 1800s where women in the United States wanted equal rights to vote and have equal job opportunity like men. It is not right for one gender to be superior over the other. Hence, women such as Susan B. Anthony who drafted The Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions demanded equality for women to be educated and gain employment. Cady Stanton along with Susan Anthony formed the National Woman Suffrage Association, Lucy Stone and Henry Blackwell amongst others formed the American Women Suffrage Association demanding voting rights for women. • 10. Application Of A Cuk Topology For Power Factor Correction... ABSTRACT This paper deals with a Cuk Topology for Power Factor Correction (PFC). Most of the front end PFC converters are designed using diode bridge and has lower efficiency due to losses with reduced power factor. The current flow, during each intervals of the switching cycle reduces the conduction losses compared to the conventional Cuk PFC Rectifier. The converter also provides protection against inrush current occurring at start up, decreases input current ripple and reduces Electromagnetic Interference (EMI).It works in the Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM) to provide almost unity power factor and low distortions in the input current. To analyse the performance of this converter, a model based on the CUK topology has been designed by using MATLAB/ SIMULINK software and implemented with Proportional Integral (PI) and Fuzzy logic controller. Keywords: CUK Bridgeless Topology, Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC), Power Factor Correction (PFC), Proportional Integral (PI) Controller. I. INTRODUCTION 1.1 GENERAL Brushless DC (BLDC) motors are used for many low and medium power drives applications due to their high efficiency, high flux density per unit volume, low maintenance requirement, low EMI problems, high ruggedness and a range of speed control. The author uses Zeitoun s story to implicitly tell his own personal views across to the reader. Eggers uses literary devices and rhetorical tools to do this. It s important to note in this book that these are the author s view and that you must choose to separate them from the story or not. In my opinion, the falsity of media is the most resonating argument, The authors capitalizes on Zeitoun and his family s background to fulfill this idea. This reveals that both Egger s and Zeitoun know you cannot believe everything the news says. SInce the reader has been with Zeitoun through the whole ordeal, the reader is also unaware of any dangers, if any. This adds to the underlying feeling that the media is exaggerating the aftermath. Further into Zeitoun s exploration he comes across a body and a helicopter hovering as he describes, A man was pointing a camera at the body. He did so for a few more minutes and then the helicopter rose, tilted, and drifted off. This language and casual feeling in the quote make it obvious it is a media helicopter that has no intention to check on the body and see if it s okay. A rhetorical question leads into this quote, instilling hope in the reader to be immediately let down. The nonchalant of the interaction exposes how distant the coverage is to the scene. My own experiences having raised three children, two girls and a boy have shown that access by them to technology such as the computer, other technological devices and access to the internet and television programming have contributed to aspects of their own self development which were not available to their predecessors and in my own considered judgment, based on these developments allow for a level of maturity beyond their young ages. Given the observations on growing p too fast, as discussed above and inclusive of research and findings by Hymowitz (1998) which articulated on trends observed n the society in which his daughter grew up, supporting discussions by the Sunday Sun ( 2011); Hughes (2009); Wilson ( 2008) and my own experiences in observing the phenomena of children maturing at an earlier age than their predecessors, I submit and support the thesis statement that children are growing up much faster currently than their predecessors based on the evidence provided in the discussion which support such conclusions. III. SECTION 3 CONCLUSION The phenomena of young children developing a more matured status as opposed to their predecessors have been noted by a number of researchers. This development have been attributed to a number of factors related to technology, exposure to activities through various technological means which enhance their own education and even the attitude by parents, which allow for a more matured ... • 27. I Am A College Student I m a college student on a typical college student s budget, and I moved into my apartment about a year ago. Let me tell you this, I just now decorated my room. Yes, I spent an entire year staring at stark white walls, with nothing but last years calendar and my celebrity crush of the moment hanging o the wall beside my bed. There s nothing inviting about an undecorated room, in fact it s sort of depressing, and I wouldn t recommend it to anyone. No matter what your budget, decorating is important and can be done. Here s how I gave my room a personal touch for less than $100. Like most people the first thing I thought of to decorate my walls with were pictures. Little did I know how expensive pictures could be. I first looked for framed pictures at discount retailers like Target, figuring I could get a good deal. Wrong. Even their smaller pictures cost about $30, and while that isn t really expensive, it was just a tad bit more than I wanted to spend on one item. I did come across a rather small rectangular picture for $10 in the sale bin at Rite Aid, and a matching pillar candle for the same price at Kmart, but those items ended up in my bathroom so they don t count towards the total for my room. The point is, however, that we can t discriminate against those really cheap shops. To find good pictures for a really low price I recommend going to unexpected places, such as Rite Aid. Believe it or not, you might just find one or two items you like. If all else fails, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Strategic Challenges And The Global Security Environment The central problem discussed in this paper is to determine the general capabilities needed to rebalance the Joint Force 2025 (JF25) considering the current strategic challenges and the global security environment. This paper proposes that the JF25 focus on its competitive advantages and curtail ineffective and expensive programs to preserve its ground forces capability to provide deterrence and defeat capabilities critical to our National Strategic Objectives. To support this position, this paper articulates the emerging threats to U.S. National Interests and highlights the key strategic direction of published Department of Defense (DoD) strategy and strategic concepts. Secondly, this proposal provides the broad capabilities that the JF25 must aggregate from each service of the DoD. Finally, this paper articulates and mitigates the inherent risks to its proposed capabilities. The emerging threats to U.S. National Interests are several. At the same time, sequestration magnifies the criticality of miscalculated capability decisions. The persistent threat trends of 2025 include the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, the rise of modern competitor states, violent extremism, irregular warfare, regional instability, transnational criminal activity, competition for resources, and lone actors. Although this is an innovative idea, there is a lot of wasted space in the cylinders and in the square box that it is packaged in. In this investigation, another idea for a container will be shown with a list of advantages and disadvantages. The aim is to create a new container for tennis balls that has a comparable surface area and wasted space to that of the cylinder containers currently used. Another container that could be used instead of a cylinder is a rectangular prism as shown below. This investigation will use measurement to calculate the surface area and volume of 3D objects, including a sphere and cylinder. The maths that was used to calculate the results ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This assumption was proven to be incorrect as the wasted space was calculated to be much over 4000cm3. Another assumption made was that the square box with rectangular prisms inside would have a considerably smaller amount of wasted space compared to the cylinder, but a small amount of wasted space would exist. As shown in the previous working out, there was no wasted space in the square box with the rectangular prisms. A final assumption made in part A was the dimensions of the cylindrical container. In part B, it was presumed that the points would be scattered loosely around the line of best fit. After creating the scatter plot, it was understood that the points were closely scattered around the line of best fit and a realisation that there could be a formula to calculate the results quicker was brought into consideration. Also, another assumption was that the amount of wasted space would not be a significant amount. After calculating, it was notable that the wasted space was more than half of the volume of the ... • 32. Congo’s Era of Damnation In the year 1885, King Leopold II of Belgium imperialized the Independent State of the Congo. Leopold set the area up under his own personal rule. His rule was an extremely negative and very unwanted thing that plunged the area into an era of damnation. The early history of the congo really starts in 150 AD. The indigenous immigrants to the Congo, who were most likely Pygmies, had migrated from the northern area to the savannah regions in the south now called DROC, or Democratic Republic of the Congo (Clarke, John H). These immigrants brought agriculture, and made iron tools. Moving ahead to 1482, the Portuguese navigator, Diogo Cão visited the Congo River marking the first ever known European contact with the region. Henry Stanley, a British explorer is commanded to proclaim King Leopold s rule over the Congo in 1879. This is followed by European powers at the Berlin Conference who recognised Leopold s claim to the Congo basin and he announces the establishment of the Congo Free State headed by himself (Democratic Republic of...), thus beginning Leopold s era of tyranny. Leopold s purpose of controlling the Congo was for the vast amount of resources such as ivory, rubber, and copper. In 1887, J.B. Dunlop s invention of inflatable, rubber, bicycle tires and the rapid increase in the popularity of the automobile, caused the demand for rubber to increase dramatically. No not because the professor will mark you down a certain percentage of your grade, but because of the relationship between students that show up for class and the ones that regularly skip. When I started attending college, I was a bit confused why such a large percentage of students weren t attending class. It seemed as the quarter moved further along, class attendance went down. After spending a bit of time on google, I found a few statistics that reflect why I believe class attendance should be mandatory. On the contrary, some students will say that they should have the freedom to decide if they want to go to class, because they are now adults. However, to improve students grades and school drop out rates. Colleges should require class attendance. Building in class continuity will help prepare young adults for the work world and requiring class attendance will help develop students for a thriving career. It should be noted that it is not something that is coerced on people but transpires due to peer pressure and the urge of wanting to be considered beautiful by following the trends of the era. In this paper, we will set a discourse concerning how dress codes of American women have been profoundly influenced by the Fashion industry.
