The Importance Of A Second Language Acquisition
Take a look around in any instruction manual, what do you notice besides the instructions? The fact
that it is printed in at least two different languages, sometimes even more than that. The United States
is often referred to as the melting pot of many cultures. This is shown in everyday life from an
instruction manual for new products to having alternate language television channels. The use of a
second language is becoming a necessity of life. Second language acquisition (SLA) is the acquiring
of a language that is not the native language spoken by an individual. It is often referred to as speaking
a foreign language, but it is more than just speaking, it is a complete learning process (Troike, 2012).
Acquiring a second language is only part of the situation; when should it be taught is the question
more people are asking. A second language is necessary and should be taught in elementary school
because of the nation s need for multilingualism, the early learning of a language is easier, the
creativity of diversity is enhanced, and it can have a social impact on our changing society.
The need for multilingualism and second language acquisition is growing. Rowena Alegria is a subject
editor for the Spanish language weekly Viva Colorado, and explains that this is not a new topic, but
one that has gone on for years with different speaking immigrants (2011). Many countries have more
the one national language. Worldwide communications that are done are not just in English. He

Ambassador James C. Swan And The Chief Of Mission David Brown
Ambassador James C. Swan and DRC Deputy Chief of Mission David Brown should be at the top of
the list regarding diplomatic efforts with President Kabila and his advisors. Swan and Brown would be
responsible for disseminating our potential policy efforts in a positive light and garnering support for
said efforts. The United States Agency for International Development and Department of State should
also be heavily involved in any policy changes. Each respective agency would reallocate funds as
necessary. As of now, only $42 million of USAID s estimated $330 million (2016) of foreign aid goes
towards governance measures. It is critical that this amount be increased provided that the Kabila
regime is receptive to our ideas and willing to work with us. The success of any aforementioned
policy change depends on the DRC government s ability to implement it. Additionally, we should also
work with the Department of Treasury in restructuring current sanctions on the DRC. If the Kabila
regime proves compliant with our policy measures, then we should urge the Treasury to reduce
sanctions. The Department of Defense should play a role in establishing a legitimate military presence
in the DRC. They can do so by joint military exercises meant to build military capacity and strengthen
the DRC government s ability to deal with threats from armed groups within the country and abroad
(namely, threats from Rwanda and Uganda). Finally, we should coordinate with the African

What Is The Commerce Clause And The Commerce Clause
Federalism is a type of government that is divided by a constitution through a central and regional
government. The federal government s power has increased unlike the power of the states since the
ratification of the Constitution. Under different circumstances the constitution has been ratified in
order to meet the necessary standards. The Supreme Court case, where Texas is the plaintiff, known as
United States v. Texas (2015) has increased the power of the State relative to the power of the Federal
Government through the necessary and proper clause and the commerce clause .
The necessary and proper or the elastic clause states that congress has the power to make all laws seen
to be necessary and proper , also known as implied powers to carry out its enumerated powers.
Implied powers enable congress to make laws that are necessary and proper to carry them to
Execution the foregoing powers. In other words, this clause applies to laws that don t exactly have a
place in the Constitution. The necessary and proper clause is important in order to expand the power
of federal government. This clause is useful in order to give Congress the authority to use powers not
explicitly named in the Constitution, if they are necessary in order to perform its responsibilities as
outlined in the Constitution (Legal Dictionary).
The Commerce Clause is an important part of the Constitution because progressives want to grow the
size and power of government. This clause has been used

Research Methodology Within The Nes 2012 Codebook
3. Research Methodology Within the NES 2012 Codebook, there are three questions I intend to
examine. This first is labeled PRESVOTE2012_X in which the respondent specifies whether they
voted for Obama, Romney, or other. The next question is labeled INCGROUP_PREPOST and asks
the respondent to specify their level of family income beginning with under $5,000 going up to
$250,000 or more. As a result of this question providing 28 different categories, for the purpose of my
paper and tables, I recoded the INCGROUP_PREPOST variable to become income4 in which the
results would be provided within four income categories, as opposed to the 28. The last question I will

Apple Incorporated:
An Analysis

Business 50.1 Company Research Paper
Apple Inc.
Technology has taken an uprising since the late 20th century to our world today. Everyone essentially
owns some sort of technological device from cellphones to computers. Companies like Microsoft,
Xerox and Canon have made our lives simpler and possibly much easier, but there was another
company waiting to override the norm and push an industry giant to its limits. Apple Incorporated,
followed an unconventional path to its recent success in the computer industry, despite being
consistently dominated by Microsoft.

Apple has seemed to always make products which cater to the general public whether its technically
or aesthetically. It appeal within the youth might also contribute to their output power. For example
just the people who purchase Apple products can dictate how much Apple can charge consumers.
Who are the major competitors of this company? Because of the continuously expanding horizons of
Apple, its list of competitors seems to grow more and more as the company moves forward. For
example, other companies in the business of selling personal computers based on different operating
systems have aggressively cut prices and lowered their product margins to gain or maintain market
share. It is widely known that Apple s market share in the digital music industry is far more dominant
compared to any other competitor in that market, hence that shouldn t even be considered a market
where Apple faces fierce competition. We must mention Apple s step into the mobile communications
market with their revolutionary product, the iPhone. Apple faces many well established competitors,
but despite the appeal of their product, they cannot win over the whole market because of its price,
and because of the imitations other competitors make of the iPhone. This essentially reduces Apple s
chance to completely take over the mobile communications market.
What are the core competencies of this company and how are these used to competitive advantage?
Apple is unique in the sense that

A Modest Proposal Rhetorical Analysis
During the late seventeenth century, political pamphlets were distributed throughout Ireland to
promote the ideas of various intellectuals and laymen. However, many discarded them and did not pay
attention to them. Jonathan Swift, author of A Modest Proposal, takes lead for these unnoticed
pamphlets and builds a proposal he thinks would help Ireland economy. A Modest Proposal is an
ironic example that presents the attitude of rich towards poor and their starving kids. Jonathan uses
various elements like metaphors, repetitions, irony and parallelism to focus on destructive defiance of
the writing. Jonathan swift starts by blaming the mothers of these children that they should start
working and get some earning to support these kids. He also foretells the future of these children that
they will turn into thieves or sell themselves to foreign countries for money. According to Swift, it is
just because the parents did not train their children the unassertive way of life and could not give them
a proper lifestyle. In A Modest Proposal Jonathan Swift does not blame the shortcomings of Ireland on
the people. He says that the people, politicians, and English were all to be at fault for the terrible state
and poverty of Ireland. there are three factors that make Swift s argument not serious: the tone of the
author, his insincerity, and ridiculousness of the proposal.
Swift states that because these women kept having children and could not provide food to them, the
economy of Ireland and standard of living couldn t improve. So, he makes a proposal to the public that
he thinks would be beneficial for them. His way of thinking and argument is incorrect in what he is
proposing as He marks that young healthy children are delicious food to be roasted, stewed and boiled
to be served and eaten by rich British people. Similarly, he estimates that twenty thousand kids should
be held in reserve for breeding purposes. This brutalizes how children should be treated like animals.
Jonathan swift trying to support his argument, in a very sarcastic way states that certain body parts of
children are good to eat and on special occasions could be held on demand. furthermore, he advises
that healthy and nourished kids could be

Mandatory Arrests for Domestic Violence Do More Harm than Good
Domestic violence, or intimate partner violence, is a common problem. As a result, the criminal justice
adapted to demands, especially from feminists, who bemoaned the poor response of police, and in
turn, the justice system by instituting mandatory arrests. However, mandatory arrests have proven that
just like protection or restraining orders, they are not effective in deterring domestic violence (Davis,
2008). Similarly, the arrests do not have a substantial effect on recidivism and create undue procedural
complications for the criminal system (Zelcer, 2014). On the contrary, proponents of the approach,
argue that it has a deterrent effect on the perpetrators and that it can even protect offer immediate
protection for the victims (Clark, 2010). Nonetheless, using statistical evidence and arguments from
scholarly sources, this position paper will expose the inefficiencies and constitutional inconsistencies
that make mandatory arrests harmful for the batterer, victim, and the criminal justice system.

Rationalization On Premarital Sex Is Immoral
Mohammed Miah Professor Dowd ENWR 105/E3 3 11 November 2014 Rationalization on Premarital
Sex For an extensive period of time, it was considered sinful and immoral, but in the beginning of this
century, it found its way into the social norm. Many people today believe it is acceptable, but there are
still numerous people, including myself, who find the practice of premarital sex to be wrong at first
glance regardless of what the situation may be. The thought of whether or not the practice is
acceptable varies from person to person based on their upbringing and knowledge on the topic. Due to
the countless morbid and life changing consequences, including a multitude of diseases and unwanted
pregnancies, people, such as myself, rationalize on the opinion that premarital sex is immoral and
should not be practiced. In his argument titled The Moral Instinct, Pinker identifies two different
methods that people use to conclude on whether an action, idea, or practice is moral or immoral; he
refers to them as moral reasoning and moral rationalization (462). Moral reasoning can be defined as
analyzing a situation first to make a judgment/conclusion on that situation (Pinker 462). On the other
hand, moral rationalization is the opposite and is defined as beginning with the conclusion, coughed
up by an unconscious emotion, and then working backward to a plausible justification (Pinker 462). In
other words, moral rationalization is the first instinct that we get about something. The

Ode To Mulan Women
The Female Gender and Identity Construction in Ode to Mulan Throughout history, women have
struggled for equal rights to men. In many civilizations, women were considered beneath men and
subhuman. Specifically, in the ancient Chinese culture a woman was to be obedient, honorable, and
fertile. A woman s place was in the home being a good caretaker and moral daughter. Female gender
identity is based on social influences and gender roles constructed by society. Social understanding of
these gender roles and social expectations of each gender directly influence each interactions. In the
story of Ode to Mulan , a young woman dressed herself as a man to take her father s place in the

Young children watching the Mulan movie may be inspired to construct their gender identity with
bravery and personal ambition rather than social norms. Mulan is a wonderful role model for young
girls and for one s own female gender identity.
Originally, the story of Mulan was a ballad, a Chinese equivalent of a Shakespearean sonnet. The story
was written in fifteen stanzas with a poetic style of storytelling. According to this classical Chinese
literature, the young Mulan was a young daughter of a retired ailing solider. She bought a saddle and a
horse to take her father s palace in the army because she had no older brother. When her parents were
asleep, she ran away and signed up to join the army in her father s place. At war, Mulan showed great
bravery and won many awards and achievements. The ballad stanzas nine and ten stated that,

New Criticism is an unusual and dying theory in this generation. In today s age, people analyze and
rate a piece of text on impact it has on the individual person or society. New Criticism eliminates
feelings, ratings and the impact a piece of had but rather focuses on the text itself. New Criticism,
incorporating Formalism, examines the relationships between a text s ideas and its form, between
what a text says and the way it says it. New Critics may find tension, irony, or paradox in this relation,
but they usually resolve it into unity and coherence of meaning (Biddle 100). Many theorist call this

problem that surfaces from these self illusions is Troy s inability to accept the decisions of others. He

Advertisements Exploiting Children
Are current practises of advertising to children exploitative? What restrictions should be placed on
advertising to children?
Up until recently, parents had been the intended target audience for advertising efforts aimed for
children of young age groups. However it is now the children who have become the main focus. The
growth in advertising channels reaching children and the privatisation of children s media use have
resulted in a dramatic increase in advertising directly intended for the eyes and ears of children
(Wilcox et al. 2004). It is estimated that advertisers spend more than $12 billion a year on the youth
market with more than 40,000 commercials each year. The current practises of advertising to young
children definitely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore research on the language of advertisements, while used to promote products, may be
purposefully constructed to confuse younger children at lower levels of cognitive development.
Simple correlation research in the US indicates that children typically aged 2 6 years who view more
television advertising request more products from their parents. This is known as pester power. It has
been found that parents are more likely to buy products when kids ask for them in the shop (nag
factor). As children age, they develop the cognitive capacity to contextualise and act critically on the
observations made, reducing the amount of requests for products (Australian Communications and
Media Authority, 2007). Children who are exposed to TV commercials for toys not only develop the
initial idea for the toy but repeatedly pester their parents to buy it. This is exploitation on the parents
behalf as it often causes parent child conflict when the parents deny their children the product (Wilcox
et al. 2004).
Another troubling issue relating to child advertising exploitation is in reference to food ads. Half of
the advertisements in the UK directed at children concern food. There are little ads emphasising
healthy eating and since the start of television advertising, the largest proportion of ads aimed at
children has always been unhealthy food products (Gunter, Oates amp; Blades 2005). The Australian
Communications and Media Authority (2007) detailed the

central focus is plainly stated in the introduction, which is how the use of journals impacted the
learning process of adult non traditional students and how this impact compared to that of traditional
students .
The purpose of this article critique is to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the Langer (2002)

However, the use of learning journals in technology fields in higher education among non traditional
students is lacking. From these statements the reviewer can determine that the review of literature is
appropriate and critically analyzes published learning journals by the use of summaries and
comparisons.
The methodology section was explained in sufficient detail. It allowed its readers to address the
research questions/problems. Langer (2002) uses two principle modes of inquiry, which are: review of
learning journals submitted by students; and interviewing selected students who completed the course.
The population was identified and selected by using three components in the process. The interview
guide that was provided to two researchers, and not the interviewees, is an indication that the results
would prove reliable. The results from the interviews allowed the researchers to further assess the
significance and relative successes of the participant journals.
The results and findings were clearly explained and examined all aspects of the study. Langer (2002)
gives a clear table indicating the demographic variables of ten students who took part in the study. The
nine interview questions offered a review of how the students responded toward the use of journals in
the course. Some common themes emerged from the journal readings and interview question
responses. The implications of the results and findings were

Formulas And Motifs In Woodford s Ajax With The Body Of
In this particular section of Woodford s book, the focus of the text is to explain how the artists of
Classical Antiquity used formulas and motifs. These artists decided that to create a clear visual
explanation of a story of Greek mythology, there should be a set formula that would convey to the
viewer what the artist meant to present. The reasons behind this decision were quite justified, as it is
certainly difficult to represent some of the stories of Greek mythology, as they are confusing to read or

stories are so odd that it is difficult sometimes to imagine how to illustrate such a strange story. By

Body of Achilles, it is still clear who the central characters of the work are. This is because the same
formula is employed as the formula in Ajax With the Body of Achilles. The difference is that Achilles
is the bearer of the corpse. Achilles is wearing his typical militant uniform and is even still holding his
spear. This is certainly a departure from the lifeless Achilles. Instead of Achilles, we see Penthesilea,
an Amazon warrior who fought against Achilles and, obviously, was defeated. In some versions of this
story, the storytellers told that Achilles fell in love with Penthesilea as he killed her. Thus, the viewer
may see the tender care that Achilles is paying to Penthesilea in this work of art. Penthesilea is in
almost the exact same posture as Achilles. The stance of Achilles is different from Ajax, however, as
he is on two feet instead of on his knee. This does nothing to altar the despair of the work, especially

development of documentaries. We then looked more into how different documentaries, Spellbound

and how each different style affected people.
We ran into conflict when we were choosing what topic for our documentary. We all had many ideas
but most of them we had to rule out because they would not be suitable for Year 5 and 6. The target
audience only left us a few ideas. This is because when we first started off thinking ... Show more

We interviewed most of or interviewees in a classroom. The reason why we choose this area is that
because when a student is at school, they are constantly in a classroom. So soon enough many feel
more comfortable in a classroom than other places. We interviewed some grade tens were their bags
are. We assumed they would be more honest if they were interviewed somewhere that was familiar
and in a sense comforting because if they feel comfortable, they would normally be more truthful. We
chose to do a mid shot because when most people are nervous, they tend to move their feet and we
didn t want to show them nervous to be interviewed. We also used different camera angles to show
different people. Some were smaller, so we lowered the angle and where the camera was positioned.
From watching Bowling for Columbine and Spellbound , we decided to choose a subjective
documentary because we were all more interested in Bowling for Columbine than Spellbound . When
editing we looked at what Bowling for Columbine did with editing things together and things out to
get what our point across more affected.

The Importance Of Playing Basketball
Basketball is my passion and it makes me happy that I decided to continue playing. However, there
was a time when I was thinking about not playing again due to an awful experience I had while
playing basketball my senior year of high school. I have soon come to realize that not all coaches are
the same, for example, my high school basketball coach is very different to my college basketball
coach, especially when it comes to their coaching styles and attitudes towards their players and
coaching staff.
It is easily said that playing basketball my senior year of high school was my least favorite season.
The season was my least favorite, not because of my teammates, but due to the head coach. He only
designed plays to showcase our point guard, who is the person that calls the plays that we run on the
court. He also had the coaching style where things were either his way or you did not play. For
instance, if someone, other than our point guard, were to receive a pass and was wide open for a shot,
he would yell at them because they were not meant to shoot the ball in that play. However, in the other
coaches and players eyes it would seem pointless for them to not take the chance and shoot the ball,
especially if they are wide open. One could make the assumption that he was focused more on the
guards than on the group as a whole, but my college coach is nothing like that.
I may have only been playing ball in college for one month, but I can say with great confidence that

The Importance Of Gross National Happiness
Before I proceed into the depths of my presentation today, I want you as people to think about the
following questions. Focusing solely on yourself as a productive member of society rather than a
businessman. Have you ever wondered why your favourite park is demolished to peices in order to
build houses or expand roadways? Have you ever felt that your volunteer work is not appreciated or
valued anymore? Have you ever felt that your most productive days in the workplace come from a
foundation of happiness. Hello, my name is Shelby Ward and I am here to present my findings of why
Gross National Happiness is a superior and more effective way to measure a Country s overall well
being.
Currently, the widely accepted measurement of the economic success of a country is found solely in a
number. A country s Gross Domestic Product or GDP. GDP follows the interaction of goods and
services with regards to their production and consumption. By measuring consumer, government and
industry spending along with the balance of trade, the GDP is a reliable indicator of economic health.
Many economists suggest that this is the only way to measure, however as reliable as it is, GDP only
measures one thing Money. For many, an economy s health is determined by several factors. Simply
put, there are more important things to consider like happiness, for example.
First off. Gross Domestic Product is solely and number and speaks nothing about citizens overall well
being. GDP awards events

The Practice Of Questioning Within Formative Assessment
1. Introduction
With recent changes and reform to primary education assessment and removal of standard levels,
assessment is the subject of great discussion in education. In this assignment I will be investigating the
practice of questioning within formative assessment; the theory behind it, strategies and evidence I
have seen in the autumn term of my Home placement. I have chosen to investigate this aspect of
formative assessment in mathematics, as this is the subject in which I have had most teaching practice
and opportunities to formatively assess children s progress and implement Assessment for Learning. It
has also been an area I have found challenging, in particular how to question children to promote
higher order thinking in mathematics, a subject that many children find challenging.
Andrew Pollard (2014) suggests in his book of reflective teaching to take elements of teaching from
the classroom that you think will work for you. He explains three elements underpin teaching; craft,
science and creativity. Throughout my first term of placement and the research and literature I have
submerged myself in, I have come to appreciate the context he means these three areas in and how
they are all interwoven to develop a personal pedagogy. In this assignment I will reflect upon the
literature I have digested and explain the strategies and philosophies I have taken from leading
educational academics and their research to develop my own approach to primary mathematics

Sovereign States must Take and Active Role in Global...
By simply interpreting the definition, middle powers are sovereign states that are not super powers or
great powers in the field of international relations, but still have moderate or significant influence than
small powers and have international recognition by other states. After the Second World War, global
society became starting to be aware of the fact that there was a need for middle powers, not so directly
engaged in global economics and politics, to act as intermediary in global governance. With rapid
globalization process among various sectors and many states, the global society has become more
interconnected and interdependent ever in terms of facing global problems as wells as regional ones.
Also with the current international relations, sovereign states as middle powers, they reflect the
tendency to compromise, coordinate, and cooperate in order to maintain their national interests, status
quo Jeffrey Robertson, South Korea as a Middle Power: capacity, Behavior, and Now Opportunity,

days, and as middle powers they would try to find their voice in international community. This paper
is to examine how middle powers play in current global governance, based on middle power theories.

containers could earn Pepsi Points that could be redeemed for bikes, jacket, cups, and other such
merchandise. During this compaign, PepsiCo let the television commercial in rotation, showcasing a
number of the items being offered. This argumentative ad showed a suburban teen preparing for
school and wearing some Pepsi Stuff (sunglasses, t shirt), as the items/stuff were depicted, numbers at
the bottom of the screen revealed how many Pepsi Points they cost. At the end of this television
commercial, this suburban teen landed a Harrier Jet near a bike rack at his school and the plane s jet ...

In an agreement there must be a meeting of the minds, which indicates mutual assent by both parties.
There is no meeting of the minds when one side (PepsiCo) is obviously joking.
Another issue, which was the case in court, is that John Leonard s understanding of this commercial as
an offer must also be rejected because the New York Court found out that no objective person (while
Mr. Leonard is a subjective person) could reasonably have concluded that the commercial actually
offered consumers a Harrier Jet. In a basic rule of contracts mentioned, that whether an offer has been
made depends on the objective reasonableness of the alleged offeree s belief that the advertisement or
solicitation was intended as an offer. Reasonable Person Standard based on common rules, and in
relation to society is an objective, so according to this standard if it is clear that an offer was not
serious, then no offer has been made.
In this case objective reasonable standard notes only how resonable persons behave, and what their
reaction. While seriousness determines whether, in our case commercial, is real and serious, and may
be perceived as an offer. As it was mentioned before, PepsiCo s commercial had no offer, and
advertising are not serious. Moreover the Court found this television commercial an absurd. Any
reasonable person can t take all the actions, that take place in this television commercial, and the plot,
seriously, due to the following facts: 1) Second, the

Film And The Band Played On By Roger Spottiswoode Essay
What are the major theme(s) of the film? Hint use the concepts presented in class to guide your
answer. Provide examples to demonstrate meaning. (6 marks)
In the film And the Band Played On by Roger Spottiswoode, the major themes revealed throughout
the film is the lack of participation from the governments behalf on this epidemic, divisional of private
and public sectors and medical dominance between medical researchers.
In this epidemic outbreak the government showed a lack of insensitivity towards the CDC when they
wanted a way to test the blood that was being donated but the government felt as it was not cost
efficient (And the Brand Played On, 1993). This prevented the CDC from coming to conclusions that
this virus AIDs may have been transmitted between homosexual men at bathhouses but it was
spreading because of blood transfusion.
The government emphasized that publicly ran services such as blood banks initiated the President to
reduce the money that was for public health and raise the money for the Department of Defense to
help with the control of the virus (And the Band Played On, 1993). This defined and demonstrated that
more emphasis is taking regarding public sectors such as blood banks compared to private sectors
such as bathhouses. Theories and evidences pointed towards gay bathhouses that this virus was being
transmitted there in saunas where sexual interaction was taking place between men. Since this
outbreak occurred, the future of bathhouses was jeopardized

Overview of the company: eBay.com eBay is an American multinational corporation and e commerce
company, that provides consumer to consumer sale services through the Internet. eBay was initially
founded as an auction web by a computer programmer called Pierre Omidyar, and during the dot com
bubble it manage to prevail and it ended up being a notable success story. In September 1997, the
company officially changed its name to eBay and in 1998 it went public. Today it is a multibillion

Amazon, which threatened the existence of local retailers, eBay facilitates local individual

the advantage of same hour delivery.
The Business Model eBay is a meeting place where people come to shop, sell, buy, and collect items
of their choice through a fixed price storefront or through auction. The website offers the convenience
of buying and selling from the comfort of the users home. In March 2013, eBay released a study that
suggested that e commerce experienced 60% less trade friction than traditional avenues of
international trade and reduced the negative effect of trade costs.

Nineteenth Century Egypt
Nineteenth century Egypt held a pivotal stance in European politics and sparked high interest in the
Great European Powers. A dynasty of slave soldiers referred to as the Mamluks were of the earliest
rulers of Egypt. The French, Ottomans, and British all affirmed their intent on seizing the country s
bustling city capital of Cairo, with some conquests being more successful than others. France and
Britain stood as worthy leaders, but it was the basic political, social, and economical foundations
created by the Ottomans that most influenced nineteenth century Egypt. Nevertheless, each of these
world powers played a significant role in modernizing Egypt and shaping the course of its history. The
Mamluks held control of large parts of Egypt in the early eighteenth century. However, they were not
a unified force. Several Mamluk families fought for control for over a decade, and the final years of
Mamluk rule were absolutely catastrophic for Egypt. The endless fighting alongside the extremely
high taxes destroyed Egypt s trade, which was one of the first triggers of the French invasion.
Napoleon Bonaparte intended on protecting French trade interests and also using Egypt to weaken
Britain s access to India. With pride and arrogance he believed that Egypt was to benefit from the new
developments and institutions made possible by the French, just as had happened in their own
revolution. He expected the Egyptian population, who was suffering under Mamluk rule, to welcome
them as

Production Of Hair Care Products For African Americans
In today s society, natural hair is popular for many women which have chosen this over relaxed hair.
More and more, African American women are leaving behind chemicals used to straighten hair and
accepting their natural curls (P., 2016). The market for relaxers has fallen for several years now. Sales
of hair care products for African Americans reaches $774 million in 2014, representing a 12 percent

African American community. It provides various products relating to natural hair care products,
beauty, such as cosmetics, and hygiene. Tony Roberts, a multicultural analyst for the intelligence firm
Mintel stated, We can see that sales [of relaxers] start to decline as far back as the 1990s. We forecast
that the decline [from 2014] will reach 45 percent by 2019 (H., 2015).
SheaMoisture was founded by Sofi Tucker. Sofi Tucker started selling Shea Nuts at the village market

  • 2. The Importance Of A Second Language Acquisition Take a look around in any instruction manual, what do you notice besides the instructions? The fact that it is printed in at least two different languages, sometimes even more than that. The United States is often referred to as the melting pot of many cultures. This is shown in everyday life from an instruction manual for new products to having alternate language television channels. The use of a second language is becoming a necessity of life. Second language acquisition (SLA) is the acquiring of a language that is not the native language spoken by an individual. It is often referred to as speaking a foreign language, but it is more than just speaking, it is a complete learning process (Troike, 2012). Acquiring a second language is only part of the situation; when should it be taught is the question more people are asking. A second language is necessary and should be taught in elementary school because of the nation s need for multilingualism, the early learning of a language is easier, the creativity of diversity is enhanced, and it can have a social impact on our changing society. The need for multilingualism and second language acquisition is growing. Rowena Alegria is a subject editor for the Spanish language weekly Viva Colorado, and explains that this is not a new topic, but one that has gone on for years with different speaking immigrants (2011). Many countries have more the one national language. Worldwide communications that are done are not just in English. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Ambassador James C. Swan And The Chief Of Mission David Brown Ambassador James C. Swan and DRC Deputy Chief of Mission David Brown should be at the top of the list regarding diplomatic efforts with President Kabila and his advisors. Swan and Brown would be responsible for disseminating our potential policy efforts in a positive light and garnering support for said efforts. The United States Agency for International Development and Department of State should also be heavily involved in any policy changes. Each respective agency would reallocate funds as necessary. As of now, only $42 million of USAID s estimated $330 million (2016) of foreign aid goes towards governance measures. It is critical that this amount be increased provided that the Kabila regime is receptive to our ideas and willing to work with us. The success of any aforementioned policy change depends on the DRC government s ability to implement it. Additionally, we should also work with the Department of Treasury in restructuring current sanctions on the DRC. If the Kabila regime proves compliant with our policy measures, then we should urge the Treasury to reduce sanctions. The Department of Defense should play a role in establishing a legitimate military presence in the DRC. They can do so by joint military exercises meant to build military capacity and strengthen the DRC government s ability to deal with threats from armed groups within the country and abroad (namely, threats from Rwanda and Uganda). Finally, we should coordinate with the African Development ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Texas (2015) has increased the power of the State relative to the power of the Federal Government through the necessary and proper clause and the commerce clause . The necessary and proper or the elastic clause states that congress has the power to make all laws seen to be necessary and proper , also known as implied powers to carry out its enumerated powers. Implied powers enable congress to make laws that are necessary and proper to carry them to Execution the foregoing powers. In other words, this clause applies to laws that don t exactly have a place in the Constitution. The necessary and proper clause is important in order to expand the power of federal government. This clause is useful in order to give Congress the authority to use powers not explicitly named in the Constitution, if they are necessary in order to perform its responsibilities as outlined in the Constitution (Legal Dictionary). The Commerce Clause is an important part of the Constitution because progressives want to grow the size and power of government. This clause has been used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. A Modest Proposal Rhetorical Analysis During the late seventeenth century, political pamphlets were distributed throughout Ireland to promote the ideas of various intellectuals and laymen. However, many discarded them and did not pay attention to them. Jonathan Swift, author of A Modest Proposal, takes lead for these unnoticed pamphlets and builds a proposal he thinks would help Ireland economy. A Modest Proposal is an ironic example that presents the attitude of rich towards poor and their starving kids. Jonathan uses various elements like metaphors, repetitions, irony and parallelism to focus on destructive defiance of the writing. Jonathan swift starts by blaming the mothers of these children that they should start working and get some earning to support these kids. He also foretells the future of these children that they will turn into thieves or sell themselves to foreign countries for money. According to Swift, it is just because the parents did not train their children the unassertive way of life and could not give them a proper lifestyle. In A Modest Proposal Jonathan Swift does not blame the shortcomings of Ireland on the people. He says that the people, politicians, and English were all to be at fault for the terrible state and poverty of Ireland. there are three factors that make Swift s argument not serious: the tone of the author, his insincerity, and ridiculousness of the proposal. Swift states that because these women kept having children and could not provide food to them, the economy of Ireland and standard of living couldn t improve. So, he makes a proposal to the public that he thinks would be beneficial for them. His way of thinking and argument is incorrect in what he is proposing as He marks that young healthy children are delicious food to be roasted, stewed and boiled to be served and eaten by rich British people. Similarly, he estimates that twenty thousand kids should be held in reserve for breeding purposes. This brutalizes how children should be treated like animals. Jonathan swift trying to support his argument, in a very sarcastic way states that certain body parts of children are good to eat and on special occasions could be held on demand. furthermore, he advises that healthy and nourished kids could be ... As a result, the criminal justice adapted to demands, especially from feminists, who bemoaned the poor response of police, and in turn, the justice system by instituting mandatory arrests. However, mandatory arrests have proven that just like protection or restraining orders, they are not effective in deterring domestic violence (Davis, 2008). • 9. Rationalization On Premarital Sex Is Immoral Mohammed Miah Professor Dowd ENWR 105/E3 3 11 November 2014 Rationalization on Premarital Sex For an extensive period of time, it was considered sinful and immoral, but in the beginning of this century, it found its way into the social norm. Many people today believe it is acceptable, but there are still numerous people, including myself, who find the practice of premarital sex to be wrong at first glance regardless of what the situation may be. The thought of whether or not the practice is acceptable varies from person to person based on their upbringing and knowledge on the topic. Due to the countless morbid and life changing consequences, including a multitude of diseases and unwanted pregnancies, people, such as myself, rationalize on the opinion that premarital sex is immoral and should not be practiced. In his argument titled The Moral Instinct, Pinker identifies two different methods that people use to conclude on whether an action, idea, or practice is moral or immoral; he refers to them as moral reasoning and moral rationalization (462). Moral reasoning can be defined as analyzing a situation first to make a judgment/conclusion on that situation (Pinker 462). On the other hand, moral rationalization is the opposite and is defined as beginning with the conclusion, coughed up by an unconscious emotion, and then working backward to a plausible justification (Pinker 462). In other words, moral rationalization is the first instinct that we get about something. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In today s age, people analyze and rate a piece of text on impact it has on the individual person or society. New Criticism, incorporating Formalism, examines the relationships between a text s ideas and its form, between what a text says and the way it says it. Up until recently, parents had been the intended target audience for advertising efforts aimed for children of young age groups. However it is now the children who have become the main focus. The growth in advertising channels reaching children and the privatisation of children s media use have resulted in a dramatic increase in advertising directly intended for the eyes and ears of children (Wilcox et al. 2004). Furthermore research on the language of advertisements, while used to promote products, may be purposefully constructed to confuse younger children at lower levels of cognitive development. Simple correlation research in the US indicates that children typically aged 2 6 years who view more television advertising request more products from their parents. This is known as pester power. It has been found that parents are more likely to buy products when kids ask for them in the shop (nag factor). As children age, they develop the cognitive capacity to contextualise and act critically on the observations made, reducing the amount of requests for products (Australian Communications and Media Authority, 2007). Children who are exposed to TV commercials for toys not only develop the initial idea for the toy but repeatedly pester their parents to buy it. This is exploitation on the parents behalf as it often causes parent child conflict when the parents deny their children the product (Wilcox et al. 2004). Another troubling issue relating to child advertising exploitation is in reference to food ads. Half of the advertisements in the UK directed at children concern food. There are little ads emphasising healthy eating and since the start of television advertising, the largest proportion of ads aimed at children has always been unhealthy food products (Gunter, Oates amp; Blades 2005). These artists decided that to create a clear visual explanation of a story of Greek mythology, there should be a set formula that would convey to the viewer what the artist meant to present. The reasons behind this decision were quite justified, as it is certainly difficult to represent some of the stories of Greek mythology, as they are confusing to read or hear about in the first place. Achilles is wearing his typical militant uniform and is even still holding his spear. This is certainly a departure from the lifeless Achilles. Instead of Achilles, we see Penthesilea, an Amazon warrior who fought against Achilles and, obviously, was defeated. For instance, if someone, other than our point guard, were to receive a pass and was wide open for a shot, he would yell at them because they were not meant to shoot the ball in that play. Focusing solely on yourself as a productive member of society rather than a businessman. Have you ever wondered why your favourite park is demolished to peices in order to build houses or expand roadways? Have you ever felt that your volunteer work is not appreciated or valued anymore? Have you ever felt that your most productive days in the workplace come from a foundation of happiness. Hello, my name is Shelby Ward and I am here to present my findings of why Gross National Happiness is a superior and more effective way to measure a Country s overall well being. Currently, the widely accepted measurement of the economic success of a country is found solely in a number. A country s Gross Domestic Product or GDP. GDP follows the interaction of goods and services with regards to their production and consumption. By measuring consumer, government and industry spending along with the balance of trade, the GDP is a reliable indicator of economic health. Many economists suggest that this is the only way to measure, however as reliable as it is, GDP only measures one thing Money. For many, an economy s health is determined by several factors. Simply put, there are more important things to consider like happiness, for example. First off. Gross Domestic Product is solely and number and speaks nothing about citizens overall well being. • 25. The Practice Of Questioning Within Formative Assessment 1. Introduction With recent changes and reform to primary education assessment and removal of standard levels, assessment is the subject of great discussion in education. In this assignment I will be investigating the practice of questioning within formative assessment; the theory behind it, strategies and evidence I have seen in the autumn term of my Home placement. I have chosen to investigate this aspect of formative assessment in mathematics, as this is the subject in which I have had most teaching practice and opportunities to formatively assess children s progress and implement Assessment for Learning. It has also been an area I have found challenging, in particular how to question children to promote higher order thinking in mathematics, a subject that many children find challenging. Andrew Pollard (2014) suggests in his book of reflective teaching to take elements of teaching from the classroom that you think will work for you. He explains three elements underpin teaching; craft, science and creativity. Throughout my first term of placement and the research and literature I have submerged myself in, I have come to appreciate the context he means these three areas in and how they are all interwoven to develop a personal pedagogy. In this assignment I will reflect upon the literature I have digested and explain the strategies and philosophies I have taken from leading educational academics and their research to develop my own approach to primary mathematics ... • 26. Sovereign States must Take and Active Role in Global... By simply interpreting the definition, middle powers are sovereign states that are not super powers or great powers in the field of international relations, but still have moderate or significant influence than small powers and have international recognition by other states. After the Second World War, global society became starting to be aware of the fact that there was a need for middle powers, not so directly engaged in global economics and politics, to act as intermediary in global governance. With rapid globalization process among various sectors and many states, the global society has become more interconnected and interdependent ever in terms of facing global problems as wells as regional ones. Also with the current international relations, sovereign states as middle powers, they reflect the tendency to compromise, coordinate, and cooperate in order to maintain their national interests, status quo Jeffrey Robertson, South Korea as a Middle Power: capacity, Behavior, and Now Opportunity, KINU, vol. 16, No. 1 (2007):. 151 174. . Such current trend encourages certain sovereign states to take active roles in global governance these days, and as middle powers they would try to find their voice in international community. This paper is to examine how middle powers play in current global governance, based on middle power theories. What is a Middle Power? In an agreement there must be a meeting of the minds, which indicates mutual assent by both parties. There is no meeting of the minds when one side (PepsiCo) is obviously joking. Another issue, which was the case in court, is that John Leonard s understanding of this commercial as an offer must also be rejected because the New York Court found out that no objective person (while Mr. Leonard is a subjective person) could reasonably have concluded that the commercial actually offered consumers a Harrier Jet. In a basic rule of contracts mentioned, that whether an offer has been made depends on the objective reasonableness of the alleged offeree s belief that the advertisement or solicitation was intended as an offer. Reasonable Person Standard based on common rules, and in relation to society is an objective, so according to this standard if it is clear that an offer was not serious, then no offer has been made. In this case objective reasonable standard notes only how resonable persons behave, and what their reaction. While seriousness determines whether, in our case commercial, is real and serious, and may be perceived as an offer. As it was mentioned before, PepsiCo s commercial had no offer, and advertising are not serious. Moreover the Court found this television commercial an absurd. Provide examples to demonstrate meaning. (6 marks) In the film And the Band Played On by Roger Spottiswoode, the major themes revealed throughout the film is the lack of participation from the governments behalf on this epidemic, divisional of private and public sectors and medical dominance between medical researchers. In this epidemic outbreak the government showed a lack of insensitivity towards the CDC when they wanted a way to test the blood that was being donated but the government felt as it was not cost efficient (And the Brand Played On, 1993). This prevented the CDC from coming to conclusions that this virus AIDs may have been transmitted between homosexual men at bathhouses but it was spreading because of blood transfusion. The government emphasized that publicly ran services such as blood banks initiated the President to reduce the money that was for public health and raise the money for the Department of Defense to help with the control of the virus (And the Band Played On, 1993). This defined and demonstrated that more emphasis is taking regarding public sectors such as blood banks compared to private sectors such as bathhouses. Theories and evidences pointed towards gay bathhouses that this virus was being transmitted there in saunas where sexual interaction was taking place between men. • 32. Nineteenth Century Egypt Nineteenth century Egypt held a pivotal stance in European politics and sparked high interest in the Great European Powers. A dynasty of slave soldiers referred to as the Mamluks were of the earliest rulers of Egypt. The French, Ottomans, and British all affirmed their intent on seizing the country s bustling city capital of Cairo, with some conquests being more successful than others. France and Britain stood as worthy leaders, but it was the basic political, social, and economical foundations created by the Ottomans that most influenced nineteenth century Egypt. Nevertheless, each of these world powers played a significant role in modernizing Egypt and shaping the course of its history. The Mamluks held control of large parts of Egypt in the early eighteenth century. However, they were not a unified force. Several Mamluk families fought for control for over a decade, and the final years of Mamluk rule were absolutely catastrophic for Egypt. The endless fighting alongside the extremely high taxes destroyed Egypt s trade, which was one of the first triggers of the French invasion. Napoleon Bonaparte intended on protecting French trade interests and also using Egypt to weaken Britain s access to India. With pride and arrogance he believed that Egypt was to benefit from the new developments and institutions made possible by the French, just as had happened in their own revolution. He expected the Egyptian population, who was suffering under Mamluk rule, to welcome them as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
