Special Prison Populations
Corrections are an important part of the criminal justice system and they work in concert with
law enforcement and the courts. Citizens in the United States expect criminals to be monitored,
with some in secured facilities, so they will not fear of becoming continual victim of crime. To
illustrate this expectation further, there are 2.5 million individuals on probation or parole and 1
million individuals in jails or prisons (Morris Tonry, 2013, p. 370). However, does every individual
confined in jails and prisons still need to be there or is there a better way to deal with certain
special prisonpopulations? Due to the large number of prisoners within the correctional system,
certain special populations of inmates do not receive the rehabilitation or care needed to
successfully reintegrate back into society. Additionally, these special populations create an undue
burden on the correctional system in terms of financial costs associated with their confinement.
There are changes that can be made to the criminal justicesystem to accommodate special
populations of inmates. This paper will explore the alternative... Show more content on

Between 1900 and 2000, the life expectancy in this country has risen from 47 to 78 years of age
(Rikard Rosenberg, 2013, p. 404). Although the older population has grown from 4% to 13% in the
United States during the same period, the elder prison population has grown substantially. For
example, between 1994 and 1998, Texas saw an 86% increase in the elderly prison populations
while California expects to see a 200% increase by 2020 (Rikard Rosenberg, 2013, p. 404). When
determining the need to incarcerate an elderly individual, several costly considerations must be
made. Elderly inmates require more medical care compared to the younger prisoners and special
accommodations must be consider for older inmates (Rikard Rosenberg, 2013, p.

The CIA used Chilean media to perpetuate a smear campaign against Allende and encouraged a
coup against the communist government that made the conditions ripe for a coup. After the
coup, General Pinochet was a close U.S. ally up until the Carter administration. President Carter,
who made human rights as the driving force behind his foreign policy, distanced himself from
Pinochet because of alleged human rights violations conducted by Pinochet s regime. The next
two films depict the CIA being deeply involved in the funding and arming of groups to repel
Communism. In Chile they spent money on propaganda and to create an atmosphere perfect for

Integrity In The Community
V. Integrity: In the community, while brotherhood and knowledge are very important, one thing
that is constantly emphasized is that we do everything we do with integrity. The idea of Integrity is
emphasized through the saying All actions, whether in business or in life, are guided by honesty,
ethics and fairness ( AKPsi Today ). Integrityis a valuethat the fraternity values so much because it
is a value that directly transcends the community of the brotherhood and impacts the world. The
organization makes sure to choose its members based on these qualities and make sure that to be an

Service Another quintessential aspect of Alpha Kappa Psi is the core value of service. Service is
emphasized by the idea that sharing of time, talent and treasure with society and with our fraternity
is a priority ( AKPsi Today ). As mentioned earlier, the organization promotes and highly
encourages its members to be involved win other communities. While this encourages personal
growth and development, ultimately, it emphasizes the point that we should be part of something
bigger than ourselves. Whether that means making an impact on a small school or an entire city it
is important that actions have an impactful purpose. Some initiatives AKPsi takes to be involved
in other communities is by having philanthropic events for many different communities such as
Mott s Children Hospital, Detroit Partnerships, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and the Friendship
Circle (Qadir). There are many brothers who have taken initiative outside of AKPsi to make an
impact outside of the club. One example of that embodies this and all other core values of AKPsi
is a club known as AccelerateCS. The clubs main mission is to expose and teach kids computer
science however, it has become much more than that. The club began supplying computer science
knowledge, but now more than anything it supplies friendship and mentorship. The club has
touched the hearts of both the members from our sides and the students. Brother Keeyan Sanjasaz
exclaims there is nothing more satisfying than going to that school every Friday and having kids
with a smile from cheek to cheek. It has been able to grow into such a successful club because
members are constantly joining after seeing how fulfilling the work they are doing is. As a
community that wants to change the world, it is important to understand that we should always do
all we can to help others. We have so many opportunity s that others do not have and it is important

Power s The Old Bird
J.F. Power s The Old Bird, A Love Story tells the story of an elderly and unemployed Mr.
Newman who must learn to adapt to a new reality: adapting to a job that is not white collared.
Through this short story, J.F. Power is able to portray the toil and turmoil of emotions that Mr.
Newman experiences in the course of his first day at a new job. The author introduces four
different characters, all key components to help the reader determine and decide what emotions
Mr. Newman may be feeling. Each character is used thoughtfully and expertly to convey the author

I am not saying just go to war for any reason we see fit, but have it as a last resort, when the other
person leaves us no choice. For example, Desert Storm, we had to take action against Iraq and
Sadam because he left us no choice. If everyone who was a Christian decided that war was
wrong and didn t fight, then we would have lost the war. As Christians, I believe it is our duty to
try to avoid war, but when it become necessary we must take action. Even though we might not
desire to be out on the front lines with the people who are actually doing the killing and combat,
we must support our country. We can take roles in the army as non combatance if it is necessary
for us to actually go out to war, but whatever we do it is our duty to our country to show support
and be involved so we can make sure that the war is just for what is necessary and not taken out
of hand. You see, if we stay out of war then our country and way of living will be threatened all
together, but most of us do not wish to go in headfirst and kill everyone who opposes us. We just
find a median where we can help control what is going on and seek the best possible outcome for
the world in which we live in.
The next topic that we will discuss is the Christian s involvement in matters relating to the division
of church and state and religious liberty. I believe that a

Compare And Contrast Erasmus And Luther
Erasmus and Luther on The Reformation
Religion was understood as the upmost critical part of a person s life during the European Middle
Ages. Christians believed the only way to Heaven was through good works. To gain penance for
their sins, Christians would travel on pilgrimages to complete a journey to a holy site. When popes
began to abuse papal authority during this time, Christians could pay indulgences to be forgiven of
their committed sins. Papal authority had been corrupted by practices which were not Biblical
through proposing that Christians could be saved by payment, and not by accepting God s grace.
Because of these actions, attention was drawn to the foundations of the doctrine of the Church. The
Church was in need of fixing. Two reformers, Desiderius Erasmus and Martin Luther, spoke out to
do this. Both Erasmus and Luther desired to reform the church because they had similar viewpoints
on the abusive power. The way that the two decided to go about reformation was different. Erasmus
was poor, humanist, and reserved, whereas Luther was not poor, a theologian, and bold. Although
Erasmus and Luther shared a common goal for Christians to live by the scripture, similarities and
differences were present in their approach to church reform due to their past experiences, education
received, and amount of audacity.
To begin, the past experiences of Erasmus and Luther affected their approach to reformation.
Desiderius Erasmus was born in 1466 and died in 1536.

Universal Design
The Universal Design for Learning is defined as a set of principles for curriculum development that
caters to varying needs in the classroom and provides individual and equal opportunities to learn. It
provides a framework for devising instructional goals, methods, teaching practices, and assessments
in a range of different modes to promote student learning. The approach is important because it
identifies a wide array of needs and wants in the classroom, with individual students necessities,
skills and effective learning techniques pivotal. The framework recognises the barriers to and for
learning, allowing for the implementation of flexible techniques that cater to student s strengths and

Locke And Hobbes
Thomas Aquinas can be best described as a merge of Aristotelianism eudaimonism and Christian
theology. He is known for blending these two subjects, although he did not directly accept every
notion that Aristotle believed in. Theology s primary interest in a person is the principle of his
actions, according to Hobbes. To judge these actions, he considers 3 topics: the object, the intention,
and the circumstances that make up the three sources of the moralityof human acts. The object
chosen is a good toward which the will guides itself, it is the matter of a human feat. The object
chosen morally specifies the act, and is judged if it is within the true good. Unbiased criterions of
morality express the balanced order of good and evil, indicated... Show more content on

John Locke and Thomas Hobbes both submitted differing versions of this state in Two Treatises
of Government and Leviathan. Locke adheres to the Natural Law belief which asserts that men
intrinsically have ethical sense which curbs them from participating in deplorable acts. These
men know what is right and wrong and what is lawful, and can resolve conflicts reasonably. In
natural state all people were equal, and everyone had a right to defend his or her life, health,
liberty, or possessions. Therefore, Locke believed in a self ruling, civil society, unlike Hobbes.
Hobbes s ultimate ambition is to secure as many pleasures as possible and to avoid pain and
aversions with no regard for others. He is primarily focused on Self Interest, a core tenant of
Hobbism. He believes people have no conception of good and evil, instead it is up to their culture
or upbringing to decide this. Justice or Property do not exist, only egoism, which he believes is
logical. Hobbes believes that the state of nature is therefore not corrupt, or obscene, but plainly
amoral. There are no morals, according to

Professor Jim Greene
Abstract:
Technology has had and imperative influence in almost every aspect of life. It has also made an
impact on how we learn today. Some question how effective learning could be via the internet,
while most stick with the familiarity of traditional classroom learning. Either option you choose still
substantiates that technology has changed the way we learn and will continue to expand on its
influences with the ways we choose to progress educationally. Each educational platform has it
disadvantages, however the advantages pose alternatives that can suit an individual s educational
needs.
With technology influencing almost every aspect of common activities, it s not unusual for it to
influence the way we learn. The traditional classroom environment is being challenged with the
implementation of online learning. With major technological advances over the last 20 years, many
traditional classroom environments have been replaced with online learning platforms that create
convenient, accelerated, and comprehensive learning opportunities around the world. Although
some would beg the differ that online learning can replace classroom education completely, online
education continues to improve allowing it to become a more trustworthy alternative for learning.
Since the traditional classroom environment pacifies familiarity in education some opt for

Metaphysics
Metaphysics Introduction Philosophers love to argue points or defend points that seem either
brutally obvious to lay people or so obscure as to wonder about the mental health of the
philosopher. For some philosophers, nitpicking and countering previously accepted arguments
about causes of actions is along the way totally confusing a college student desperately trying to
grasp the mysterious ideas a way of life. For example, Wayne Davis references a way to disprove
the causal theory (it holds that actions done for a reason are explained by the agent s beliefs and
desires ) (Davis, 2005, p. 58). Mary, for example, turned on the light switch not because she had
any particular belief that there was too much light but because she believed there was not
enough light. The argument ensuing from that position (based on Donald Davidson s theory) is:
even if ...beliefs and desires cause actions that are done for reasons, the contents of those beliefs
and desires are irrelevant to the fact that Mary produced the action at the light switch (Davis, 58).
Hence, Davis has proved that since the reasons why Mary acted are irrelevant, from that
perspective the causal theory can thus be undermined (58). Meanwhile, the question, what is a
cause will be approached in the philosophical / metaphysical sense in this paper. What is a Cause?
Why search for an analysis of causation in the first place? (Liebesman, 2011). David Lewis offers
this reason: the myriad variables of causation

short means the state has control over the economy and shares wealth equally. Communismhad hekd

Why I Started Middle School Essay
Whenever I first began middle school, I was well aware of the new and divergent obstacles I
would come across. The classes would become more advanced, teachers more strict, and lunches
more disgusting. During my 6th grade year, this change became clear. As my homework was piling
up, so was my stress. Balancing school, sports, and family timehad never been an unchallenging
task, but I never have and never will let that be the reason for my grades to drop. The immense
amount of effort I put into school is one consistent quality I possess that will never disintegrate,
as opposed to what one teacher said. Sometime during my 6th grade year, parent teacher
conferences were arriving. I was used to them at this point. I was expecting my mom to come
home from the conference and give me the same report from my teachers as usual that I worked
hard, received good grades, and was a well behaved student. However, this time, I heard entirely
different feedback. When my mom walked into the kitchen that evening, where I was doing
homework, she gave me a funny look. She was grinning, but still looked puzzled.
Minorly concerned, I asked her, How did the parent teacher conferences go?
She quickly responded, Your sisters meetings went great, as usual.
Right after she said that, she went silent. I wondered why she was not mentioning anything about
her meeting with my teacher, Mr. Frick. I became very anxious, even though I could not recall a
time when Mr. Frick had gotten

Lord Of The Flies And Human Nature Essay
Human nature defines the general psychological behaviors of humans when in a primitive or
natural state. In the movies and books in this course human nature is a very prevalent theme and
controls the events throughout. In The Mist by Stephen King, the characters start out with their
civility and slowly break down and do things that show they will do anything to survive. In Lord
of the Flies by William Golding, the boys get stranded on an island and use a form of order to keep
their civilized lives intact but soon turn to savagery and destruction. Another example of human

They begin with electing a leader that will guide them to survive and eventually be rescued. This
character is Ralph, and he stands for civilization and wanting to be saved from this tragedy. Only

They lose all thought of being rescued. Just within a matter of days these boys were a group of
savages, dancing around fires, sharpening hunting and killing spears, and attacking Ralph and
whoever else continued to live with a civilized manner. These boys were finally free of any adult
supervision or authority and wanted to act like human nature intends, with the thought of living

the end of the story the group of savage boys, who called themselves a tribe, murdered the

1990s Crime Trends
Crime rate has increased in California since 2010, and even increased dramatically since the
1990s, because there have been many unsuccessful policies to decrease the crime rates. I am for the
government to use taxpayers money to reduce crimes in our communities by increasing numbers of
police officers to the streets and providing a system to help inmates from returning to prison.
Everyone has a different perception when it comes to crime, When we think of crime, we probably
think of the dangerous characters we see played in the movies. What exactly is crime? Crime is
illegal activity that is prohibited by the law. Basically, crime is any act, which breaks the law or
fails to obey some requirement of the law. Since the decade of the 1990s crime has increased in
America, especially in state of California. In 1990s, violent crime plummeted fifty one percent,
property crime fell forty three percent, homicides are down fifty four percent compared to previous
decade (Chettiar, 2015). Increased policein the 1990s brought down crime by about five percent,
police employment increased dramatically in the 1990s, rising twenty eight percent. One
example of state policy that were put in place in the 1990s to address crime was the 1994 Crime

can be effective in reducing crime especially in the 1990s. Thanks to digital revolution in the

Treatment Of Veterans With Suds And Co Occurring...
The VA runs the largest substance use disorder treatment program in the world. Treatment of
veterans with SUDs and co occurring psychiatric disorders is one of the following three paradigms;
parallel, sequential, and integrated. Most VA programs are parallel, where the patient receives
treatment for SUD in one program and treatment for PTSDin another. Many SUD PTSD veterans
may be unable to navigate the separate systems or make sense of the disparate messages about
PTSD treatment and recovery. One challenge to dissemination and implementation of EBTs is that
of dual disorders, particularly SUD and PTSD. These patients use costly inpatient services, tend to
have frequent relapses, and are less likely to adhere to or complete treatment.
Cook, Walser, Kane, and Woody (2006) did a study that had a goal of getting clinicians to accept
Seeking Safety and evaluate its efficacy when treating veterans, in hopes of bridging the gap of
parallel services at the VA to treat comorbid SUD PTSD. This study reinforced the old ways of
cannot teach an old dog new tricks because of how difficult it is to influence clinician behavior in
routine medical care. A more passive approach was taken via a daylong interactive staff training in
Seeking Safety, where clinicians were informally surveyed on their willingness to co lead groups
with the study. Four therapists volunteered. And thus, four Seeking Safety groups were formed

Comparing Two Different Versions Of Greek Myth
In ancient Greece, Greek mythology was passed through each generation and is an important part

such as weather, emotions, agriculture, entertainment, and the creation man and Earth. Myths are
traditional stories that teach lessons that have been retold many times. which had created multiple
versions of each myth. By comparing any two versions, many similarities and differences can be

One of these differences is in Phaethon written by Evslin, Evslin, and Hoopes tells about how
Epaphus and Phaethon argue that Phaethon s father Apollo, had taught him to drive his sun

Phaethon is lying, so he tells Phaethon to prove it. Phaethon says You ll know me. When I pass
the village I will come close and drive in circles around your roof. You ll see me alright. Farewell.
In the other version, Phaethon by Moira Kerr and John Bennett, the boys do not make a bet.
Instead, the story begins by saying Phaethon, whose father was the sun god, Apollo, was taunted
about his parentage by Epaphus, a youth of the same age whose father was the mighty Zeus. In this
version of the story, Epaphus insults Apollo in front of Phaethon, and he becomes determined to
meet his father and make him proud. Another difference in this story is how Apollo s horses and
chariot were described. In the story Phaethon by Evslin, Evslin, and Hoopes, the story says Fire
white horses with golden manes, golden hooves, and hot yellow eyes. When they neighed, the

The Causes Of Domestic Violence
Domestic violence is a big problem in the United States today. Domestic violence is anything from
sibling abuse to elder abuse. Domestic violence has many names. Spouse abuse talks about abuse
from a husband/wife or a boyfriend/girlfriend. Domestic violence is not just physical, but is
behavior that is intended to control another person through the use of verbal assaults.
One big cause of domestic violence is stress. Things such as being unemployed, drugs, alcohol, or
little money can cause a person a lot of stress. Also, it can sometimes be due to the abuser being
abused themselves in their childhood. Statistics show that many people who are abused in their
childhood become abusers themselves.
When domestic violence occurs there are many types of abuse that can happen. The first kind is
physical violence. Physical violence includes anything that is intended to physically injure the
person. The second type of abuse is emotional abuse which is consistently doing or saying things to
emotionally harm another person.
The third kind is sexual abuse. Just because someone is married to someone doesn t mean that they
have to have sex with them. Even though these are different kinds of abuse, all of them are harming
in their own ways.
People who have been abused think that there is no way out. They continue to put up with the
abuse and eventually learn to deal with it. Also due to the history of domestic violence, it is still
seen as acceptable in some ways and not a large threat

Evolution Of Human Evolution
Introduction
The human species has depended on a material culture for millions of years. Without it, humans
would not be able to survive. Many people believe that because we have so many technological
advancements and that humans can build or make anything necessary for their survival. Even with
the current technology and other advancements, research has proven that humans are still evolving.
Much of the evolution that is happening today has to do with the human genome and adapting to
current issues in the world. There has been much research done on the human genome and how it is
still mutating and changing. Natural selection has a big part in how the genome changes. Mutations
are another point to look at when determining if the human species is still evolving. A third point to
look at is gene flow and how that affects different populations. The purpose of this paper is to
review multiple different articles to establish whether or not the human species is currently
evolving. The articles used for this paper confirm that humans continue to evolve. While humans
have the technology and skills to make their environments suit their needs, it can clearly be seen
that humans continue to evolve and adapt.
Review of the Literature
Mutations
Some mutations in an allele increase to a greater frequency in a short period of time due to natural
selection. Examples of this include alleles in the gene for lactase persistence so that adults can

New Orleans By Jean Baptiste Le Moyne, Sieur De Bienville...
New Orleans was founded in 1718 by Jean Baptiste Le Moyne, Sieur de Bienville. Forty five
years later, in 1763, France signed treaties ceding Louisiana to Spain to whom it remained for
the next forty years. Due to Mexican, Cuban and Spanish influence, the race rules in New
Orleans were more liberal, allowing for a class of free people of color. In 1803 Louisiana was
sold back to the French, who then twenty days later sold it to the United States in the Louisiana
Purchase. New Orleans had become the largest city in the Confederacy by the start of the Civil
War in 1861.
New Orleans culture is a melting pot of Spanish, French, Mexican, Native American, and African
descent. Creole is a term that refers to mixed race natives of Louisiana. Many creoles were free
and their ancestors often had the same rights as white people. They often received formal
education and owned property and slaves. Creole culture was catholic and French speaking as
opposed to the Protestant and English speaking whole of America. This amalgamation of cultures
created a safe haven for personal expression, and caused the development and evolution of the
culture and Jazz music.
In 1724, Code Nior was implemented which gave slaves Sundays and holidays off. On their days
off, slaves gathered any place they could find such as levees, backyards, and remote areas. In
1817, the mayor of New Orleans issued an ordinance which restricted slaves congregation to an area
called Congo Square. On Sunday afternoons, men

Essay On The Last Of The Mohicans
The Last of The Mohicans was an enjoyable book to read. The book kept me interested and there
was difficulty to put it down. The book made the backdrop enjoyable and it fashioned a difficult
terrain for the characters to transverse. The vegetation provides a worthy advisory for both the
natives and whites to cross and provided cover for both sides. The characters not only fight against
themselves, but, also nature was fought against during the conflict and the fact that the author
described it in a fantastic way. This helps set the mood when the runner was meant, and when they
traveled through the backs of the woods. The description of the runner peaked my curiosity,
labeling him as a specter in the woods. The book showed that frontier life was hard and
unforgiving place. The first couple of chapters seemed dawdling. The author lost me when he went
into elongated historical definitions and discussions this agitated and disconcerted me. Although, it
started slow I soon found it hard to put down the book. The author could generate tension in the
story, which is why could not put the book down. The book is far different from the movie; to me
the plots seemed remote from each other. The Native Americans in the book... Show more content

Film Review Of The Movie Kung Fu Panda
Religious Film Review
The movie Kung Fu Panda is a thrilling, revenge seeking, action packed movie made for all
ages. Po the panda (voiced by Jack Black) works in his family s noodle shop with his father and
dreams of becoming a kung fu master. His dream becomes a reality when, unexpectedly, he must
fulfill an ancient prophecy and study the skills of his idols, the Furious Five. Po needs all the
wisdom, strength and ability he can muster to protect his people from an evil snow leopard named
Tai Lung. This movie is directed by Mark Osborne, John Stevenson, and their goal whilst making
this movie was to make it amusing for both children and adults while correctly incorporating
different cultures.
Buddhism elements are clearly evident in this film. Throughout the movie Po, Shifu (his master)
and a few other characters express many elements relating to Buddhism. Po experiences the First
Noble Truth when he is expected to become a noodle man, he is unsatisfied with his future being
made for him and his inability to change it. Soon after when he is chosen to be the Dragon
Warrior, Master Shifu also experiences The First Noble Truth because he doesn t believe Po can
defeat Tai Lung and believes everyone will die. Master Oogway is very noble and experienced in
life. It seems as if he has already begun his path to enlightenment because of how wise he is.
Master Oogway demonstrates step 1 of the Noble Eightfold Path when he says that there are no
mistakes that Po is chosen to be the

Comparing Characters In The Bungalow
Muhammed Ali stated that He who is not courageous enough to take risks in life will
accomplish nothing in life. It was gutsy of Rikki Tikki to fight to fight the snakes Nag and
Nagaina because they are one of the most deadly creatures in the Bungalow. There is a huge
variety of similarities throughout the book and the movie such as the characters, setting and
conflict. The characters in the book and the movie are a lot alike. Such as the main character,
and the protagonist, Rikki Tikki. Rikki Tikki was the brave mongoose that killed Nag. In both
the book and the movie Rikki Tikki was known as the courageous, fearless and heroic mongoose.

One of the few differences in the text is how Karait is shown as. In the movie, Karait looks like a
wimpy that just wants attention. But in the story, Karait is labeled as the dusty brown snakeling
that lies for choice on the dusty earth; and his bite is as dangerous as the cobra s. (Kipling 147
148). In the movie, Karait looks like a worm. But as described in the text, Karait seems just like
a small snake compared to the Cobras. The Rikki Tikki Tavi book and movie take place in the
same location and around the same time. According to the text, the story mainly takes place in
the bathrooms of the Big Bungalow in the Segowlee cantonment (Kipling 143). A cantonment is
a military camp or station that is located in British India. In the movie, the setting looks like one
big garden with a pathway. The story also describes the bungalow as a garden path (Kipling
143). The time of Rikki Tikki Tavi is in the mid 1800 s, I know this because the book was
originally published in 1863. In the Rikki Tikki film, everything looked very old fashioned, such
as their clothes. The outfit that Teddy s mother was wearing can be compared to the dress that
Cinderella wore when she cleaned. In both the book and the movie, the language was very
outdated. An example of an outdated sentence that was used in the text is, Teddy s mother might
just as well have petted Teddy for playing in the dust. (Kipling 149) It is

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) ADHD and its diagnosis and treatment have
been considered controversial since the 1970s. The controversies have involved clinicians,
teachers, policymakers, parents and the media. Opinions regarding ADHD range from not
believing it exists at all to believing there are genetic and physiological bases for the condition as
well as disagreement about the use of stimulant medications in treatment. Some sociologists
consider ADHD to be a classic example of the medicalization of deviant behavior, defining a
previously non medical problem as a medical one. Most healthcare providers in U.S. accept that
ADHD is a genuine disorder with debate in centering mainly around how it is diagnosed and...

With regard to genetic studies, research has demonstrated the fact that genetic influences are
involved. Family studies, molecular genetics, and twin studies have explained the familial
nature of ADHD. Regarding family studies, there is a high probability of a child being
diagnosed with the disorder if the siblings or parents are also affected. In addition, about 33.3%
of fathers who in their childhood had ADHD are likely to bear children who have the disorder.
This is an indication that among first degree relatives of affected parents or siblings, there is a 6
8X risk of an ADHD relative to the prevalence of ADHD in the general population. Further
evidence has been obtained from twin studies by comparing the rate of concordance between
monozygotic (MZ) and dizygotic (DZ) twins. All of the genes are shared in the case of MZ
twins whereas in DZ twins only 50% of segregating genes are shared on average. A study that
involved comparing the rate of concordance between the two types of twins revealed that among
MZ twins, the rate of concordance ranged between 58% and 82%. For the same sex in DZ twins,
the rate was 31% 38%. These results provided more evidence to the heritable nature of ADHD.
However, the fact that the rate of concordance in MZ twins was less than 100% in all the studies
conducted implies the involvement of environmental components in the aetiology of ADHD.

Interpersonal Relationship With My Family
Practical Example of Theory My family happens to be deeply religious, conservative and often
closed minded about certain aspects of life. In other words, everything that they tend to support and
believe in as a family unit, tends to be something I can not personally agree with. As anyone can
imagine, this has deeply affected my interpersonal relationshipwith my familyin a negative impact.
As an adult, I have come to my own conclusions about my personal beliefs about life and what
those entail for myself. These beliefs are usually the exact opposite of what I grew up with, much
to the disappointment of my family which has created a deep divide between us. This has probably
affected my relationship with my father the most, as he has always been the most outspoken about
his disappointment.
For my father this has been rather difficult to accept because to him, I have violated my family s
beliefs by turning my back on religion and wanting no part of it in my personal life. It is simply
something he can not comprehend, to him it means turning my back on my family and everything
I have known. Years ago when I was a teenager, I confided in him that I wanted nothing to do with
the church anymore and he chalked it up to teenage youth. Nowadays, my interpersonal
relationship with my father has been strained because he has finally understood that I had actually
been serious all along. In fact, when it was brought up again when I was an adult and when I had

Trent Bridge
The Veteran s Skyway Gateway to the Trent Bridge
In the early 1990s, the aging swing bridge crossing the Trent River in Trenton, Ontario was
replaced with a continuous span steel box girder bridge. The unique part of this process was that
the new bridge was built adjacent to the existing swing bridge and slid laterally into place; this was
the first time in North America that this technique had been done. The process consisted of five
mains steps; first, the planning of such an undertaking, second, deciding on how to proceed, third,
constructing the new bridge on site, fourth, removing the old swing bridge, and finally, sliding the
new bridge into place, all the while ensuring minimal impact to the vehicular traffic through town

However, the city determined that one bridge would not sufficiently handle the volume of traffic
during the 18 months it would take to complete a new bridge. Thus, City councillors, working with
the Ontario Ministry of Transportation and engineers from Declan Corporation of Toronto,
conceived the plan of building a new bridge adjacent to the swing bridge, and later sliding it into
place (Anderson Trenkler, 1991). But, before the construction of the new bridge could commence,
engineers had to reverse the direction of the swing rotation of the existing bridge, as it swung
directly towards the site the new bridge would be built and would impede on the construction
process (Anderson Trenkler, 1991). Once the planning was finalized and the site prepped,
construction could begin.
In the spring of 1989, the construction of the new bridge began. The base of the Trent River was
a flotilla of barges carrying the workers, cranes and equipment needed to prepare the temporary
pillars that would support the new bridge, as well as maneuver the huge steel girders into place
for the new bridge. It was an awesome sight for the entire town, as we watched barges float the
steel girders into the harbour, one section being 74 meters in length and two more that were 54
metres each. The new steel box girder bridge had a total length of 182 metres and weighed 2,950
metric tonnes (Anderson Trenkler, 1991). Temporary cement pillars were poured to support

The Contribution Of Galileo
Galileo Galilei, an Italian scientist, made groundbreaking observations that contributed to modern
physics and astronomy. Galileo established mathematics as the language of scientific discovery. He
founded the scientific method and helped establish the modern practice of experimentation and
calculated laws of nature.
In July of 1609, Galileo developed his own telescope and with it, he made several astronomical
discoveries. For example, Galileo discovered that the surface of the moon is rough and uneven as
opposed to smooth as people had thought. Galileo also discovered with his telescope that many
more stars exist than are visible to the naked eye. According to author E.B., Galileo also found
sunspots upon the surface of our star and discovered the phases of Venus, which confirmed that the
planet circles the sun inside Earth s own orbit (45).
Galileo was also curious about how things move, and this curiosity led to important discoveries in
physics. For instance, he questioned the then current belief that heavy objects fall faster than light
ones. In order to refute this, Galileo did many experiments. For example, it is said that he dropped
two different weights from the Tower of Pisa to show that they hit the ground at the same time, a
demonstration that paved the way for Isaac Newton s Laws of Motion. Galileo also tested his
theory by rolling balls down an inclined plane at various angles. These experiments lead to Galileo
s the law of falling bodies. This law states that all objects will fall at an equal rate when accounting
for relatively minor differences in aerodynamics and weather conditions.
Another discovery Galileo made with regards to motion was about the pendulum. The author of An
Inquisitive Mind Kim Zarins wrote about the experiment:
Galileo made two pendulums with string of equal lengths and a lead ball at the end of each. Then
he pulled one ball back twice as far as the other, and let them both go at the same time. He
expected to see the ball with the longer swing take a longer time to move back and forth. In fact,
both pendulums moved in perfect synchronization! They swung at the same rate, even though one
pendulum was moving twice as far and one ball was heavier than the other (41).

The Purpose Of Indian Boarding Schools

What was the intended purpose of Indian boarding schools? According to the Wikipedia page,
Native American boarding schools, they were established in the United States during the late 19th
and early 20th centuries to educate and [simulate] Native American children and youths according
to European standards . So, the intended purpose of the Indian boarding schools was to educate and
assimilate the children with the idea of the living the American way . The reformers wanted the

from their traditional Indian relatives. Probably, their Indian relatives were closed minded and did
not want to expose the younger generation to different things. According to the website

The reformers wanted the children to understand the outside world, not have influences from their

Indian boarding schools because when Richard Pratt opened the boarding school he had the goal as

Artificial Tanning Research Paper
Indoor tanning under the age of 18 increases your risk of skin cancer by 75% (Division of Cancer

The Beauty of Adam and Eve
In a world bombarded with technology and constant distractions, society often forgets the
importance and beauty of art. A branch of art, literature, lends a tremendous impact upon society.
Marjorie Pickthall constructs an elegant poem, Adam and Eve, while reinterpreting the well known
Biblical story, Adam and Eve. Similar to Pickthall, a renaissance artist, Masaccio, however,
interprets the Biblical story of Adam and Eve with a different interpretation. In his painting, the
expulsion of Eden, he focuses on Adam and Eve s reaction while leaving the Garden of Eden.
Although Pickthal and Masaccio have different prescripts of the story of Adam and Eve, both
adopt the same plot. While arriving in the perfect garden of Eden, Eve is suddenly attracted to the
forbidden fruit. Beguiled by the serpent , Eve eats the fruit, passing it on to her husband, and is
then banished, along with Adam, from the Garden of Eden. Because Pickthall uses artistic license
and a rhymescheme, she constructs a poem, indirectly relating to Masaccio s painting, the expulsion
of Eden, and directly relating to the bible.
Due to Pickthall s usage of artistic license in her poem,a new meaning arises in relation to the
Bible. The major instance of artistic license in Adam and Eve, the location in which the whole
story takes place in, The Garden of Eden, changes to Beauty . The first stanza describes, gracefully,
Eve s first interaction with the tree of knowledge, In the clear silence Beauty found them

A Man Who Indoctrinated A Fascist Regime
No other figure in history can boast the embodiment of infamy than that of Adolf Hitler. A face that
requires no introduction is either one of two things: a reputable individual, or a formidable one. It
goes without saying that Hitler wasn t anything other than the latter. In this essay, I will be
investigating the odyssey of a man who indoctrinated a fascist regime and assumed the position of a
dictator for all time.
Hitler first entered the political arena in 1933, via exploitation of the legislative system, something
he would later dismantle as leader. His appointment as Chancellor by German President, Paul Von
Hindenburg, came as a surprise, after Hindenburg previously refused Hitler s request for the
position. He assumed the role during the political turmoil the country was facing at the time (as a
consequence of the conditions in the 1920s and early 1930s), this corresponded with the approach
and policies that Hitler advocated as leader of the Nazi party. Following the death of President
Hindenburg in 1934, Hitler assumed the role of leader. During this period of transition, he actioned
the Enabling Act (23rd March), giving himself an array of authority, for example: the governing
body instated Hitler with a consecutive four years in power as autocrat, thereby instating a position
where he could amend the constitution as he wished it to be. Hitler abolished the remaining
political associations, and by doing so, ensured his dictatorship over the new totalitarian

Industry jobs account for 4.6% of total employment in 2006 and are forecast to increase to total
663,000 jobs for 5.1% of the total by 2016. Tourism can generate jobs directly through hotels,

Contribution to government revenues
Government revenues from the tourism sector can be categorized as direct and indirect
contributions. Direct contributions are generated by taxes on incomes from tourism employment
and tourism businesses, and by direct levies on tourist such as departure taxes (UNEP Tourism,
2001). Indirect contributions are those originated from taxes and duties levied on goods and

have fallen due to conflicts amongst its citizens. There are several countries that are still
experiencing effects of war. A lot of countries have enacted mandatory military conscription for their
citizens. A Mandatory MilitaryConscriptionalso known as a mandatory military obligation, the
compulsory enlistment of people in a national service, most often a military service.( Webster 2011)
This would benefit not only the country but also the citizens that must participate in it. America has
had an active military for more than over 200 years. This country currently has over 1million active
duty personal ready to stand guard for their nation.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the titles are similar, each section has a specific role. For instance, the combat service
support is defined as the essential capabilities, functions, activities, and tasks necessary to sustain
all elements of operating forces in theater at all levels of war. (Headquarters, Department of the
Army, 2008)The Army has multiple occupational specialties that require skill. A great example
is a Laboratory Technician, however, they are still considered a Soldier they also have a primary
mission of testing fluids that come into their lab. This specialty becomes critical when a patient
comes in for a problem that is unknown to the Doctor s eye. This job can also be found out in the
civilian sector. Many hospitals are always acquiring well qualified employees that have some
experience.
Another pro to joining the military is the educational support one can receive. The military offers
what is known as the Montgomery GI bill and Post 9/11 Montgomery GI bill. They were enacted
to assist Military personnel with receiving post secondary education. The military also has other
educational benefits that are even beneficial to people who are from another country. The English
as a Second Language (ESL) program is a great tool for people to better learn English without
having to pay out of pocket for it. One of the most popular educational benefits would be Tuition

The Accidental Billionaire Movie Analysis
The Controversial Creation of Facebook Based on the novel known as The Accidental
Billionaire, The Social Network is a film that explains about the creation and the evolution of
Facebook, which is one of the most popular social media in the 21st century. In 2003, Mark
Zuckerberg, a young student of Harvard University, encountered a sudden heartbreak from his
girlfriend during the dinner. Instead of feeling flat, Mark felt angry and confused; therefore, he
decided to fight back. On that night, a crazy idea came up to his mind, where he hacked the
Harvard University system and stole all the girls, information including their photos. A few hours
later after taking the ladies information with his friend Eduardo Saverin, the two established a
social site known as FaceMash. They encouraged the other students to compare the girls faces on
this new site. Eventually, the platform paralyzed the school s system and made Mark famous
overnight. However, Mark received his first time punishment from the university for his action.
Consequently, Mark and Eduardo s site drew more attention from Cameron Winklevoss and Tyler
Winklevoss where they invited them to create a Harvard Connection site. Mark and Eduardo
accepted the invitation, but at the same time, they continued writing their social platform which
they changed to Facebook, taking a reference to Cameron and Tyler s idea. The social site;
Facebook, regain high popularity, where more and more users joined. However, Cameron and

Analysis Of Catcher In The Rye And The Secret Garden
What makes her coming of age narrative distinctive is that she does not set out as a naive or
innocent character. Instead, her entire life up until she arrives at Misselthwaite Manor has been a
harsh reality: a child abandoned and neglected by her mother as she is left under the care of
servants, later losing everything she has previously known due to an outbreak of cholera.
Narration
Despite the similarities between Catcher in the Rye and The Secret Garden, the narrators of the
works vastly differ. Holden Caulfield himself narrates his experiences leading up to the mental
institution in a colloquial first person. As a first person narrator, Holden s reliability has to be called
into question. Given that Holden is a narrator who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of alienating readers, it draws them even closer to Holden. Holden s voice and his
coming of age journey are inseparable. In contrast, the story of The Secret Garden is told through
an opinionated third person narrator. The narrator does not recount events passively, but instead
inserts his or her own voice and opinions such as how Mary was a tyrannical and selfish a little pig
as ever lived into the narrative (Burnett 1). In a sense, the narrator serves as a guide in Mary s
venture into adolescence during a period when Mary herself may not fully comprehend her
transformation. To contextualize this change, the narrator often turns to physical descriptions as
opposed to mental ones. As the children mature and develop, their appearance and vitality heal as
they progressively begin to resemble regular, healthy children. As mentioned by the narrator,
[Colin] was coming alive with the garden (Burnett 202). Despite the reliability of the narrator, Mary
s personal growth is omitted from the narrative and readers are left with only the physical
development and dialogue between characters. Consequently, the information given by the narrator
is the sole insight readers have into Mary s state and her psychological state is left for interpretation.
Role of Caretakers In addition, the role of the caretaker is significant in both coming of age

Characteristics of a Serial Killer
In the sick minds of those who murder, pain and death are twisted into a passion to kill. Unlike a
normal individual, serial killers rely on murdering to fulfill their craving of their gruesome thrills
and addiction. Most of society incorrectly views serial killers because of how they are portrayed on
television. For example, Dexter is a handsome serial killerwho does lead a normal life but, he takes
it upon himself to rid all of the bad guys in the world in order to accomplish his need to kill. Then
there s Freddy Krueger, he gets revenge and kills people in their dreams, causing their death in the
real world as well. Michael Meyers and Dr. Hannibal Lecter are more examples of infamous serial
killers. All of these exaggerated serial... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was beyond evident that Bundy was heartless. Bundy had said, I didn t know what made people
want to be friends. I didn t know what made people attractive to one another. I didn t know what

Ted Bundy was attractive, intelligent and had a future in politics, he was also one of the most
prolific serial killers in U.S. history (Brogaard and Marlow). Furthermore, most serial killers
have a history of neglect, injury or abuse in their childhood. Such as, Jeffrey Dahmer, whose
mother was ill during her pregnancy. In his early adolescence, he was then sexually molested by
a neighbor boy in rural Bath Township. Then later on down the road, his parents went through a
rough divorce which he took to heart greatly, as they both left him out of a decision in choosing
a home because he had recently turned 18 years old. Feeling insecure and abandoned, Dahmer
began experimenting with fire, and collecting road kill and stripping the animal carcasses and
saving the bone. A serial killer is not born with a desire to kill, it s their morbid experiences early
on in their life that cause psychological damages that drive them to power and the thirst for
murdering (Jeffrey Dahmer). The kind of experiences a serial killer had in their early life can
sometimes depict the forms in

Coral Reef Importance
Sustainable Biomes
What Are Coral Reefs?
Livescience.com states that:
Coral reefs are expansive underwater structures which are built from stony corals that secrete
calcium carbonate to create their hard exoskeleton to protect their soft bodies. These corals consist
of polyps which are abnormal growths within the coral that cluster together to form groups. Coral
reefs make up one of the most significant marine ecosystems in the world today. (https:/
/www.livescience.com/40276 coral reefs.html )
Why Are Coral Reefs Important?
Alongside being one of the largest marine ecosystems in the world, coral reefs are significant for
many reasons, most of which fall under protection. But what do they protect and how do they
protect it?
Coral reefs provide coastal protection as they stop and lower wave action and erosion in shallow
shores which prevents damage to any nearby properties
Coral reefs protect the productive wetlands that lie along the coast as well as the highly productive
wetlands that are around ports and harbours
Human recreation such as fishing, snorkelling and scuba diving are all provided by the coral reefs.
The human recreation that is provided by the coral reefs benefit the people who work in the tourism
industry as they earn more money
Our earth s coral reefs are the spiritual and cultural centre for many people. For example, the
indigenous aborigines of Australia are spiritually connected to the coral reefs due to their traditional
ways of life. The

High Index Lenses Research Paper
High index lenses are thin, lightweight, and compatible with a variety of attractive and stylish
frames. That s all well and good but what about outdoor use? Are there high index sunglasses?
Users of 1.67 or 1.74 high index lenses face a problem similar to those using prescription glasses
with a lower index.
Two options are wearing a pair of flat sunglasses over the prescription glasses, or using clip ons.
Apart from the chunkiness and less than stylish appearance of wearing two pairs of glasses, there s
the problem of carrying around the sunglasses. It s an extra complication, which means that
sometimes you won t have them when needed, you can lose them, and all that handling increases
the risk of scratching or damaging them.
On the other hand, clip ons are easier to carry around, and look better. But again, it s one more

They can interfere with some digital displays and they cut down light intensity. Less light
transmission makes them less than useful indoors and dangerous at night. They are meant for use
in outdoor daylight.
Unless you intend to have two separate high index glasses for indoor/night and outdoor/day use,
applying a transition tint is a better option. Transition tints respond to bright sunlight by darkening
into sunglasses, but become clear when you re indoors and at night.
Transition tints can take a few minutes to adjust either way, and are activated by UV light. If
your car s windshield blocks UV, then the tint won t darken. However, an inexpensive clip on kept
in the glove compartment is a good work around for this problem. Transition gray and transition
brown tints are available for 1.67 and 1.74 high index lenses. Gray tint allows true color perception,
while brown increases contrast. Transition tints also block out all UV light.

Baseball Field, Track, And Weight Room
A popular saying around every gym, field, track, and weight room is that it, no matter what activity
it is that a sportsman is participating in, is ten percent physical and ninety percent mental. For the
kids who hear this daily, it is nothing more than a hollow statement a coach says to make them feel
better about being physically subordinate to their opponents. I have heard this mantra throughout
my life on the baseball field, football field, track, gymnasium, in the weight room, and on the
wrestlingmat. Just like those poor aforementioned kids being yelled at by their coach, this
statement just bounced off me, never finding a sticking place among all my doubt and insecurity.
Nowhere was this more true that on the wrestling mat; Coach Jaimez has told my teammates and I
this countless times, and not once throughout my first four years of wrestling did this ever sink in.
I am ashamed of this, as those athletes in the know, whether they be in High School or draped in
their nation s flag competing for a gold medal, know that this statement could not be more true for
the sport of wrestling. Wrestling is a mental sport that is determined by a competitor s decision to
focus on himself rather than his opponent and the competitor s confidence in himself and his
potential to succeed.
There I was, standing in the locker room at Enka High School, dressed only in a pair of
compression shorts, shivering among seventy three other High Schoolers as we weighed in before
the match. I

Ukraine And The Soviet Union
Since establishing independence from the Soviet Union, Ukraine has experienced its most
prolonged and deadly crisis which has deconstructed government plans to create closer economic
and trade ties with the European Union while also enticing a global impasse between Russia and
the Western powers. The roots of the crisis stem from decades of inefficient and corrupt
governance, an unbalanced economic system dominated by oligarchs, heavy reliance on Russia, and
socioreligious differences between the Eastern and Western parts of Ukraine. Following the coup d
etat of President Viktor Yanukovych in February 2014, Russian operations to begin the take over of
the Crimean Peninsula implied Russian intentions to expand its sphere of influence while... Show

Through the compounding effects of corruption in the Ukrainian leadership and the oligarchical
control of the Ukrainian economy, half of the country s gross domestic product (GDP) was
under the influence of the top fifty richest in Ukraine. In 2004, as a result of an allegedly rigged
presidential election, a wave of reformation swept through Ukraine in what became known as the
Orange Revolution. The opposition candidate Viktor Yanukovych led mass street protests as a
result of the election. Viktor Yushchenko was brought in to power as a result of the rigged
presidential election, however conflicts within the political elite resulted in a re election when the
Supreme Court of Ukraine annulled the election results. A destabilized Ukraine resulted in the
hampering of reformation and left it unprepared to manage the economic crisis of 2008. The
Orange Revolution along with the series of economic crises shadowed the already present divide
between a European leaning and Russian leaning Ukraine. Following these events, Yanukovych
campaigns on a political platform which called for closer economic ties with Russia. These series
of actions resulted in the election of Viktor Yanukovych in to the Ukrainian Presidency in 2010.
Sources indicate that Yanukovych continued the pattern of corruption of the leaders before him.

The Pearl Of The World Essay
The Pearl of the World is a symbol of hope and new chance when the story begins, buts its
meaning and purpose are completely redesigned throughout the book. When he first finds the
pearl, Kino dreams of what the pearl will bring to him, but doesn t realize that it could bring him
to his downfall. Later on, it is realized that the pearlhas brought more evil into his life than good,
but Kino refuses to give it up. The pearl brought about a connection between Kino and the
neighbors, which hadn t had the biggest benefit. By the end of the story, it is seen that Kino s
hopes and dreams wanted by the pearl have been reversed.
The pearl, a sign of hope for Kino and his family, automatically leads Kino to dream of what it
may bring to him, but the boldness of these dreams will bring his own undoing upon him. When
he first discovers the pearl, Kino s face shone with prophecy as he said My son will read and
open the books, and my son will write and will know writing. And my son will make numbers, and
these things will make us free because he will know... (p. 33). Kino s desperation for achieving these

family, everyone s fantasies are similarly destroyed Kino s heartbreak is shared by all. This is
proven by the following quote, Everyone in La Paz remembers the return of the family; there maybe

Impact Of Stimulation At The Marcellus On The Environment
IMPACT OF STIMULATION AT THE MARCELLUS ON THE ENVIRONMENT
1.0INTRODUCTION
The development of the unconventional resource of the Marcellus shale is associated with
environmental issues, particularly groundwater and surface water. While the construction of well
site infrastructure impacts the landscape and terrain, under intense public scrutiny however, is the
impact of disposed wastewater from stimulation operations.
2.0POTENTIAL RISKS TO ENVIRONMENTAL MEDIA
In order to better understand the consequence and impact of stimulation on the environment and
ultimately public health, it is essential to consider pathways and risks to sensitive environmental
receptors groundwater, surface water and air.
2.1Potential Risks to Groundwater

Since the purpose of hydraulic fracturing is to create secondary fractures in addition to naturally
occurring within the subsurface, there is a general concern that this process might extend
fractures to link aquifers. The chances of this occurring are likely remote, since the vertical
distance separating the Marcellus Shale from most aquifers is usually much greater than the
length of the fractures induced during hydraulic fracturing. In addition, several thousands of feet
of rock layers typically overlie the Marcellus Shale and form a cap to restrict flow. It should be
noted, however that if the shallow portions of the Marcellus Shale are developed, then the
thickness of the overlying rocks would be less and the distance from the Marcellus to drinking
water aquifers would be shorter, posing more of a risk to groundwater (DOE, 2009).
Economically, operators of the gas field have an incentive to maintain fractures in the gas producing
shale. Extending the fractures into a surrounding formation might allow saline fluids or brines to
enter the induced fracture and flow into the gas producing portion of the shale, which could
significantly hamper gas production. Even if hydraulically induced fractures extend into overlying
formations, the possibility for fluids to leak upward into an aquifer is remote, unless those fractures
are also connected to some other pathway,

Citizens in the United States expect criminals to be monitored, with some in secured facilities, so they will not fear of becoming continual victim of crime. To illustrate this expectation further, there are 2.5 million individuals on probation or parole and 1 million individuals in jails or prisons (Morris Tonry, 2013, p. 370). However, does every individual confined in jails and prisons still need to be there or is there a better way to deal with certain special prisonpopulations? Due to the large number of prisoners within the correctional system, certain special populations of inmates do not receive the rehabilitation or care needed to successfully reintegrate back into society. Additionally, these special populations create an undue burden on the correctional system in terms of financial costs associated with their confinement. There are changes that can be made to the criminal justicesystem to accommodate special populations of inmates. This paper will explore the alternative... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While this encourages personal growth and development, ultimately, it emphasizes the point that we should be part of something bigger than ourselves. Whether that means making an impact on a small school or an entire city it is important that actions have an impactful purpose. Some initiatives AKPsi takes to be involved in other communities is by having philanthropic events for many different communities such as Mott s Children Hospital, Detroit Partnerships, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and the Friendship Circle (Qadir). There are many brothers who have taken initiative outside of AKPsi to make an impact outside of the club. One example of that embodies this and all other core values of AKPsi is a club known as AccelerateCS. The clubs main mission is to expose and teach kids computer science however, it has become much more than that. The club began supplying computer science knowledge, but now more than anything it supplies friendship and mentorship. The club has touched the hearts of both the members from our sides and the students. Brother Keeyan Sanjasaz exclaims there is nothing more satisfying than going to that school every Friday and having kids with a smile from cheek to cheek. It has been able to grow into such a successful club because members are constantly joining after seeing how fulfilling the work they are doing is. As Christians, I believe it is our duty to try to avoid war, but when it become necessary we must take action. Even though we might not desire to be out on the front lines with the people who are actually doing the killing and combat, we must support our country. We can take roles in the army as non combatance if it is necessary for us to actually go out to war, but whatever we do it is our duty to our country to show support and be involved so we can make sure that the war is just for what is necessary and not taken out of hand. • 7. Compare And Contrast Erasmus And Luther Erasmus and Luther on The Reformation Religion was understood as the upmost critical part of a person s life during the European Middle Ages. Christians believed the only way to Heaven was through good works. To gain penance for their sins, Christians would travel on pilgrimages to complete a journey to a holy site. When popes began to abuse papal authority during this time, Christians could pay indulgences to be forgiven of their committed sins. Papal authority had been corrupted by practices which were not Biblical through proposing that Christians could be saved by payment, and not by accepting God s grace. Because of these actions, attention was drawn to the foundations of the doctrine of the Church. The Church was in need of fixing. Two reformers, Desiderius Erasmus and Martin Luther, spoke out to do this. Both Erasmus and Luther desired to reform the church because they had similar viewpoints on the abusive power. The way that the two decided to go about reformation was different. Erasmus was poor, humanist, and reserved, whereas Luther was not poor, a theologian, and bold. Although Erasmus and Luther shared a common goal for Christians to live by the scripture, similarities and differences were present in their approach to church reform due to their past experiences, education received, and amount of audacity. To begin, the past experiences of Erasmus and Luther affected their approach to reformation. Desiderius Erasmus was born in 1466 and died in 1536. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To judge these actions, he considers 3 topics: the object, the intention, and the circumstances that make up the three sources of the moralityof human acts. John Locke and Thomas Hobbes both submitted differing versions of this state in Two Treatises of Government and Leviathan. Locke adheres to the Natural Law belief which asserts that men intrinsically have ethical sense which curbs them from participating in deplorable acts. In natural state all people were equal, and everyone had a right to defend his or her life, health, liberty, or possessions. Therefore, Locke believed in a self ruling, civil society, unlike Hobbes. Hobbes s ultimate ambition is to secure as many pleasures as possible and to avoid pain and aversions with no regard for others. He is primarily focused on Self Interest, a core tenant of Hobbism. He believes people have no conception of good and evil, instead it is up to their culture or upbringing to decide this. Justice or Property do not exist, only egoism, which he believes is logical. Some question how effective learning could be via the internet, while most stick with the familiarity of traditional classroom learning. Either option you choose still substantiates that technology has changed the way we learn and will continue to expand on its influences with the ways we choose to progress educationally. Each educational platform has it disadvantages, however the advantages pose alternatives that can suit an individual s educational needs. With technology influencing almost every aspect of common activities, it s not unusual for it to influence the way we learn. The traditional classroom environment is being challenged with the implementation of online learning. With major technological advances over the last 20 years, many traditional classroom environments have been replaced with online learning platforms that create convenient, accelerated, and comprehensive learning opportunities around the world. • 11. Metaphysics Metaphysics Introduction Philosophers love to argue points or defend points that seem either brutally obvious to lay people or so obscure as to wonder about the mental health of the philosopher. For some philosophers, nitpicking and countering previously accepted arguments about causes of actions is along the way totally confusing a college student desperately trying to grasp the mysterious ideas a way of life. For example, Wayne Davis references a way to disprove the causal theory (it holds that actions done for a reason are explained by the agent s beliefs and desires ) (Davis, 2005, p. 58). Mary, for example, turned on the light switch not because she had any particular belief that there was too much light but because she believed there was not enough light. The argument ensuing from that position (based on Donald Davidson s theory) is: even if ...beliefs and desires cause actions that are done for reasons, the contents of those beliefs and desires are irrelevant to the fact that Mary produced the action at the light switch (Davis, 58). Hence, Davis has proved that since the reasons why Mary acted are irrelevant, from that perspective the causal theory can thus be undermined (58). Meanwhile, the question, what is a cause will be approached in the philosophical / metaphysical sense in this paper. What is a Cause? Why search for an analysis of causation in the first place? (Liebesman, 2011). David Lewis offers this reason: the myriad variables of causation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I am for the government to use taxpayers money to reduce crimes in our communities by increasing numbers of police officers to the streets and providing a system to help inmates from returning to prison. Everyone has a different perception when it comes to crime, When we think of crime, we probably think of the dangerous characters we see played in the movies. What exactly is crime? Crime is illegal activity that is prohibited by the law. Basically, crime is any act, which breaks the law or fails to obey some requirement of the law. Since the decade of the 1990s crime has increased in America, especially in state of California. In 1990s, violent crime plummeted fifty one percent, property crime fell forty three percent, homicides are down fifty four percent compared to previous decade (Chettiar, 2015). Treatment of veterans with SUDs and co occurring psychiatric disorders is one of the following three paradigms; parallel, sequential, and integrated. Most VA programs are parallel, where the patient receives treatment for SUD in one program and treatment for PTSDin another. Many SUD PTSD veterans may be unable to navigate the separate systems or make sense of the disparate messages about PTSD treatment and recovery. One challenge to dissemination and implementation of EBTs is that of dual disorders, particularly SUD and PTSD. These patients use costly inpatient services, tend to have frequent relapses, and are less likely to adhere to or complete treatment. Cook, Walser, Kane, and Woody (2006) did a study that had a goal of getting clinicians to accept Seeking Safety and evaluate its efficacy when treating veterans, in hopes of bridging the gap of parallel services at the VA to treat comorbid SUD PTSD. Domestic violence has many names. Spouse abuse talks about abuse from a husband/wife or a boyfriend/girlfriend. Domestic violence is not just physical, but is behavior that is intended to control another person through the use of verbal assaults. One big cause of domestic violence is stress. Things such as being unemployed, drugs, alcohol, or little money can cause a person a lot of stress. Also, it can sometimes be due to the abuser being abused themselves in their childhood. Statistics show that many people who are abused in their childhood become abusers themselves. When domestic violence occurs there are many types of abuse that can happen. The first kind is physical violence. Physical violence includes anything that is intended to physically injure the person. The second type of abuse is emotional abuse which is consistently doing or saying things to emotionally harm another person. The third kind is sexual abuse. Just because someone is married to someone doesn t mean that they have to have sex with them. Even though these are different kinds of abuse, all of them are harming in their own ways. Many people believe that because we have so many technological advancements and that humans can build or make anything necessary for their survival. Much of the evolution that is happening today has to do with the human genome and adapting to current issues in the world. There has been much research done on the human genome and how it is still mutating and changing. Natural selection has a big part in how the genome changes. Forty five years later, in 1763, France signed treaties ceding Louisiana to Spain to whom it remained for the next forty years. Due to Mexican, Cuban and Spanish influence, the race rules in New Orleans were more liberal, allowing for a class of free people of color. The book made the backdrop enjoyable and it fashioned a difficult terrain for the characters to transverse. The vegetation provides a worthy advisory for both the natives and whites to cross and provided cover for both sides. The characters not only fight against themselves, but, also nature was fought against during the conflict and the fact that the author described it in a fantastic way. This helps set the mood when the runner was meant, and when they traveled through the backs of the woods. The description of the runner peaked my curiosity, labeling him as a specter in the woods. The book showed that frontier life was hard and unforgiving place. The first couple of chapters seemed dawdling. The author lost me when he went into elongated historical definitions and discussions this agitated and disconcerted me. Although, it started slow I soon found it hard to put down the book. The controversies have involved clinicians, teachers, policymakers, parents and the media. With regard to genetic studies, research has demonstrated the fact that genetic influences are involved. Family studies, molecular genetics, and twin studies have explained the familial nature of ADHD. Regarding family studies, there is a high probability of a child being diagnosed with the disorder if the siblings or parents are also affected. In addition, about 33.3% of fathers who in their childhood had ADHD are likely to bear children who have the disorder. This is an indication that among first degree relatives of affected parents or siblings, there is a 6 8X risk of an ADHD relative to the prevalence of ADHD in the general population. Further evidence has been obtained from twin studies by comparing the rate of concordance between monozygotic (MZ) and dizygotic (DZ) twins. All of the genes are shared in the case of MZ twins whereas in DZ twins only 50% of segregating genes are shared on average. A study that involved comparing the rate of concordance between the two types of twins revealed that among MZ twins, the rate of concordance ranged between 58% and 82%. For the same sex in DZ twins, the rate was 31% 38%. These results provided more evidence to the heritable nature of ADHD. However, the fact that the rate of concordance in MZ twins was less than 100% in all the studies conducted implies the involvement of environmental components in the aetiology of ADHD. This has probably affected my relationship with my father the most, as he has always been the most outspoken about his disappointment. It is simply something he can not comprehend, to him it means turning my back on my family and everything I have known. Years ago when I was a teenager, I confided in him that I wanted nothing to do with the church anymore and he chalked it up to teenage youth. Trent Bridge The Veteran s Skyway Gateway to the Trent Bridge In the early 1990s, the aging swing bridge crossing the Trent River in Trenton, Ontario was replaced with a continuous span steel box girder bridge. The unique part of this process was that the new bridge was built adjacent to the existing swing bridge and slid laterally into place; this was the first time in North America that this technique had been done. The process consisted of five mains steps; first, the planning of such an undertaking, second, deciding on how to proceed, third, constructing the new bridge on site, fourth, removing the old swing bridge, and finally, sliding the new bridge into place, all the while ensuring minimal impact to the vehicular traffic through town and ... Thus, City councillors, working with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation and engineers from Declan Corporation of Toronto, conceived the plan of building a new bridge adjacent to the swing bridge, and later sliding it into place (Anderson Trenkler, 1991). But, before the construction of the new bridge could commence, engineers had to reverse the direction of the swing rotation of the existing bridge, as it swung directly towards the site the new bridge would be built and would impede on the construction process (Anderson Trenkler, 1991). Once the planning was finalized and the site prepped, construction could begin. In the spring of 1989, the construction of the new bridge began. The base of the Trent River was a flotilla of barges carrying the workers, cranes and equipment needed to prepare the temporary pillars that would support the new bridge, as well as maneuver the huge steel girders into place for the new bridge. It was an awesome sight for the entire town, as we watched barges float the steel girders into the harbour, one section being 74 meters in length and two more that were 54 metres each. • 31. The Contribution Of Galileo Galileo Galilei, an Italian scientist, made groundbreaking observations that contributed to modern physics and astronomy. Galileo established mathematics as the language of scientific discovery. He founded the scientific method and helped establish the modern practice of experimentation and calculated laws of nature. In July of 1609, Galileo developed his own telescope and with it, he made several astronomical discoveries. For example, Galileo discovered that the surface of the moon is rough and uneven as opposed to smooth as people had thought. Galileo also discovered with his telescope that many more stars exist than are visible to the naked eye. According to author E.B., Galileo also found sunspots upon the surface of our star and discovered the phases of Venus, which confirmed that the planet circles the sun inside Earth s own orbit (45). Galileo was also curious about how things move, and this curiosity led to important discoveries in physics. For instance, he questioned the then current belief that heavy objects fall faster than light ones. In order to refute this, Galileo did many experiments. For example, it is said that he dropped two different weights from the Tower of Pisa to show that they hit the ground at the same time, a demonstration that paved the way for Isaac Newton s Laws of Motion. Galileo also tested his theory by rolling balls down an inclined plane at various angles. These experiments lead to Galileo s the law of falling bodies. This law states that all objects will fall at an equal rate when accounting for relatively minor differences in aerodynamics and weather conditions. Another discovery Galileo made with regards to motion was about the pendulum. The author of An Inquisitive Mind Kim Zarins wrote about the experiment: Galileo made two pendulums with string of equal lengths and a lead ball at the end of each. Then he pulled one ball back twice as far as the other, and let them both go at the same time. He expected to see the ball with the longer swing take a longer time to move back and forth. In fact, both pendulums moved in perfect synchronization! They swung at the same rate, even though one pendulum was moving twice as far and one ball was heavier than the other (41). ... • 34. The Beauty of Adam and Eve In a world bombarded with technology and constant distractions, society often forgets the importance and beauty of art. A branch of art, literature, lends a tremendous impact upon society. Marjorie Pickthall constructs an elegant poem, Adam and Eve, while reinterpreting the well known Biblical story, Adam and Eve. Similar to Pickthall, a renaissance artist, Masaccio, however, interprets the Biblical story of Adam and Eve with a different interpretation. In his painting, the expulsion of Eden, he focuses on Adam and Eve s reaction while leaving the Garden of Eden. Although Pickthal and Masaccio have different prescripts of the story of Adam and Eve, both adopt the same plot. While arriving in the perfect garden of Eden, Eve is suddenly attracted to the forbidden fruit. Beguiled by the serpent , Eve eats the fruit, passing it on to her husband, and is then banished, along with Adam, from the Garden of Eden. Because Pickthall uses artistic license and a rhymescheme, she constructs a poem, indirectly relating to Masaccio s painting, the expulsion of Eden, and directly relating to the bible. Due to Pickthall s usage of artistic license in her poem,a new meaning arises in relation to the Bible. The major instance of artistic license in Adam and Eve, the location in which the whole story takes place in, The Garden of Eden, changes to Beauty . A face that requires no introduction is either one of two things: a reputable individual, or a formidable one. It goes without saying that Hitler wasn t anything other than the latter. In this essay, I will be investigating the odyssey of a man who indoctrinated a fascist regime and assumed the position of a dictator for all time. Hitler first entered the political arena in 1933, via exploitation of the legislative system, something he would later dismantle as leader. His appointment as Chancellor by German President, Paul Von Hindenburg, came as a surprise, after Hindenburg previously refused Hitler s request for the position. He assumed the role during the political turmoil the country was facing at the time (as a consequence of the conditions in the 1920s and early 1930s), this corresponded with the approach and policies that Hitler advocated as leader of the Nazi party. Following the death of President Hindenburg in 1934, Hitler assumed the role of leader. During this period of transition, he actioned the Enabling Act (23rd March), giving himself an array of authority, for example: the governing body instated Hitler with a consecutive four years in power as autocrat, thereby instating a position where he could amend the constitution as he wished it to be. For example, Dexter is a handsome serial killerwho does lead a normal life but, he takes it upon himself to rid all of the bad guys in the world in order to accomplish his need to kill. Then there s Freddy Krueger, he gets revenge and kills people in their dreams, causing their death in the real world as well. Michael Meyers and Dr. Hannibal Lecter are more examples of infamous serial killers. All of these exaggerated serial... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was beyond evident that Bundy was heartless. Bundy had said, I didn t know what made people want to be friends. I didn t know what made people attractive to one another. I didn t know what underlay social interactions.I don t feel guilty for anything. I feel sorry for people who feel guilt. Ted Bundy was attractive, intelligent and had a future in politics, he was also one of the most prolific serial killers in U.S. history (Brogaard and Marlow). Furthermore, most serial killers have a history of neglect, injury or abuse in their childhood. Such as, Jeffrey Dahmer, whose mother was ill during her pregnancy. In his early adolescence, he was then sexually molested by a neighbor boy in rural Bath Township. Then later on down the road, his parents went through a rough divorce which he took to heart greatly, as they both left him out of a decision in choosing a home because he had recently turned 18 years old. Feeling insecure and abandoned, Dahmer began experimenting with fire, and collecting road kill and stripping the animal carcasses and saving the bone. A serial killer is not born with a desire to kill, it s their morbid experiences early on in their life that cause psychological damages that drive them to power and the thirst for murdering (Jeffrey Dahmer). Are there high index sunglasses? Users of 1.67 or 1.74 high index lenses face a problem similar to those using prescription glasses with a lower index. Two options are wearing a pair of flat sunglasses over the prescription glasses, or using clip ons. Apart from the chunkiness and less than stylish appearance of wearing two pairs of glasses, there s the problem of carrying around the sunglasses. It s an extra complication, which means that sometimes you won t have them when needed, you can lose them, and all that handling increases the risk of scratching or damaging them. On the other hand, clip ons are easier to carry around, and look better. But again, it s one more thing you ll have to carry around, which introduces the same inconveniences of using a ... Less light transmission makes them less than useful indoors and dangerous at night. They are meant for use in outdoor daylight. Unless you intend to have two separate high index glasses for indoor/night and outdoor/day use, applying a transition tint is a better option. Transition tints respond to bright sunlight by darkening into sunglasses, but become clear when you re indoors and at night. Transition tints can take a few minutes to adjust either way, and are activated by UV light. If your car s windshield blocks UV, then the tint won t darken. However, an inexpensive clip on kept in the glove compartment is a good work around for this problem. Transition gray and transition brown tints are available for 1.67 and 1.74 high index lenses. Gray tint allows true color perception, while brown increases contrast. Transition tints also block out all UV light. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Baseball Field, Track, And Weight Room A popular saying around every gym, field, track, and weight room is that it, no matter what activity it is that a sportsman is participating in, is ten percent physical and ninety percent mental. For the kids who hear this daily, it is nothing more than a hollow statement a coach says to make them feel better about being physically subordinate to their opponents. I have heard this mantra throughout my life on the baseball field, football field, track, gymnasium, in the weight room, and on the wrestlingmat. Just like those poor aforementioned kids being yelled at by their coach, this statement just bounced off me, never finding a sticking place among all my doubt and insecurity. Nowhere was this more true that on the wrestling mat; Coach Jaimez has told my teammates and I this countless times, and not once throughout my first four years of wrestling did this ever sink in. I am ashamed of this, as those athletes in the know, whether they be in High School or draped in their nation s flag competing for a gold medal, know that this statement could not be more true for the sport of wrestling. Wrestling is a mental sport that is determined by a competitor s decision to focus on himself rather than his opponent and the competitor s confidence in himself and his potential to succeed. There I was, standing in the locker room at Enka High School, dressed only in a pair of compression shorts, shivering among seventy three other High Schoolers as we weighed in before the match. I ... Ukraine And The Soviet Union Since establishing independence from the Soviet Union, Ukraine has experienced its most prolonged and deadly crisis which has deconstructed government plans to create closer economic and trade ties with the European Union while also enticing a global impasse between Russia and the Western powers. The roots of the crisis stem from decades of inefficient and corrupt governance, an unbalanced economic system dominated by oligarchs, heavy reliance on Russia, and socioreligious differences between the Eastern and Western parts of Ukraine. Following the coup d etat of President Viktor Yanukovych in February 2014, Russian operations to begin the take over of the Crimean Peninsula implied Russian intentions to expand its sphere of influence while... Through the compounding effects of corruption in the Ukrainian leadership and the oligarchical control of the Ukrainian economy, half of the country s gross domestic product (GDP) was under the influence of the top fifty richest in Ukraine. In 2004, as a result of an allegedly rigged presidential election, a wave of reformation swept through Ukraine in what became known as the Orange Revolution. The opposition candidate Viktor Yanukovych led mass street protests as a result of the election. Viktor Yushchenko was brought in to power as a result of the rigged presidential election, however conflicts within the political elite resulted in a re election when the Supreme Court of Ukraine annulled the election results. A destabilized Ukraine resulted in the hampering of reformation and left it unprepared to manage the economic crisis of 2008. The Orange Revolution along with the series of economic crises shadowed the already present divide between a European leaning and Russian leaning Ukraine. Following these events, Yanukovych campaigns on a political platform which called for closer economic ties with Russia. These series of actions resulted in the election of Viktor Yanukovych in to the Ukrainian Presidency in 2010. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the purpose of hydraulic fracturing is to create secondary fractures in addition to naturally occurring within the subsurface, there is a general concern that this process might extend fractures to link aquifers. The chances of this occurring are likely remote, since the vertical distance separating the Marcellus Shale from most aquifers is usually much greater than the length of the fractures induced during hydraulic fracturing. In addition, several thousands of feet of rock layers typically overlie the Marcellus Shale and form a cap to restrict flow. It should be noted, however that if the shallow portions of the Marcellus Shale are developed, then the thickness of the overlying rocks would be less and the distance from the Marcellus to drinking water aquifers would be shorter, posing more of a risk to groundwater (DOE, 2009). Economically, operators of the gas field have an incentive to maintain fractures in the gas producing shale. Extending the fractures into a surrounding formation might allow saline fluids or brines to enter the induced fracture and flow into the gas producing portion of the shale, which could significantly hamper gas production. Even if hydraulically induced fractures extend into overlying formations, the possibility for fluids to leak upward into an aquifer is remote, unless those fractures are also connected to some other pathway, ...
