HUM 220 Module 1 Assignment 3 Defining Social Justice
For more course tutorials visit
www.newtonhelp.com
Social justice has been defined in different ways, but the definitions
usually include similar ideologies. As you study the concept of social
justice, you will come across some of the following ideas:
· Historical inequities that affect current injustices should be
corrected until the actual inequities no longer exist or have been
perceptively "negated.”
· Wealth, power, and status should be redistributed for the good
of the individual, the community, and the society.
· It is the responsibility of the government (or those who hold
significant power) to ensure a basic quality of life for all its citizens.
From country to country social justice is defined in different ways,
and the definitions usually include ideologies as well as differences.
Research the definition of social justice in the United States using
your textbook, the Argosy University online library resources, and the
Internet. Select another country to examine its definition of social
justice in order to analyze the ideologies and similarities using the
following steps:
1. Analyze the ideologies.
2. Identify the similarities.
3. Using your reasoning skills, give supporting statements or
arguments that support your position(s) about the social justice.
Your comparing and contrasting must consider the following:
· Historical values and ideologies of the country
· Economic structure of the country
· Discrimination issues, if any exist
Develop a 2–3-page analysis of the definitions of social justice in the
U.S. and a country of your choice. Analyze the ideologies, identify
their similarities, and explain how these factors support your
statements or arguments about the social justice you've selected.
Support your explanations with a minimum of two scholarly sources
in addition to the course text and apply APA standards to citation of
sources.

HUM 220 Module 2 Assignment 2 Income Support
Policies

www.newtonhelp.com
In this assignment, you must examine the philosophical underpinnings
of the economic system and its relationship to ethics and social justice
by examining income support policies. You will also view the socially
constructed ways of developing and distributing resources and
implementing societal values. You will examine the “problem of
justice” by considering the following:
· The distribution of goods and services
· An individual’s share in goods and services
· The allocation of rights and duties
Research income support policies using your textbook, the Argosy
University online library resources, and the Internet.
Select two policies for examination from the list that follows. You can
select from other types of income support policies; however, be sure
to submit your choices to the facilitator for validation before
continuing with this assignment.
· Social Security
· Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
· Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
Then, compare and contrast the selected income support policies.
Address the following:
· List and describe each income support policy’s target
population, means of funding, and intended outcomes.
· Explain the positions a conservative politician or commentator,
and a liberal politician would take on the policy. Address anything
they might have in common ideologically and also describe their
differences.
· Give reasons and examples in support of your analysis.
Write a 2–3-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to
citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention:

HUM 220 Module 3 Assignment 2 LASA 1 Taking Action
For more course tutorials visit
www.newtonhelp.com
In this course, you have been introduced to ethics, social problems,
and social policy. This assignment will prompt action from you to
help resolve a social issue. You must learn about a problem, find a
piece of legislation addressing your concern, and act to help solve the
problem.
Using the textbook, the Argosy University online library resources,
and the Internet, do the following:
1. Identify the Problem
Select and research a social issue based on the course readings or
personal interest.
Then, address the following:
· Define and describe the social issue in detail using a variety of
relevant outside sources.
· Explain the social context of the social issue.
· Identify and describe ethical concerns related to the social
issue.
· Determine what population is most impacted by the social
issue.
2. Find the Legislation
Use credible government sources to find and learn about a piece of
legislation related to your chosen social problem or issue.
Then, address the following:
· Explain how the piece of current legislation relates to the social
problem or issue. Make sure you provide a description of the piece of
legislation.
3. Write an Advocacy Letter
In order to help resolve the social issue, you must take action. Identify
your elected representative(s) and find their contact and e-mail
addresses.
Write an advocacy letter regarding the piece of legislation and your
support of or opposition to it.
The purpose of an advocacy letter is to support or oppose the
legislation that affects a social issue of concern to you. This letter is a
way for representatives to stay in touch with the constituents they
represent. The letter consists of a brief introduction identifying and
addressing the social issue of concern (through personal experience, if
applicable), an identification of the piece of current legislation that
addresses your chosen issue, and your request advocating your
representative to support or oppose the legislation.
Be sure to address the following in your letter:
· Identify the purpose of your letter.
· Identify House bill (HR) or Senate bill (S) number of the
legislation.
· Briefly summarize the social problem or issue.
· Explain the importance of the legislation as it relates to your
issue.
· Advocate for or against the legislation in a knowledgeable and
respectful tone. This includes the following:
· Evaluating the proposed impact of the legislation on target
population
· Proposing possible ways the legislation can influence the social
problem or issue
Download and review samples of advocacy letters. Use either of the
sample letters as a template for your own letter.
Write a 3–5-page report in Word format that begins with an Advocacy
Letter followed by a supporting report of 3–5-pages. Apply APA
standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming
convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M3_A2.doc.

HUM 220 Module 4 Assignment 2 Single-Payer
Healthcare
For more course tutorials visit
www.newtonhelp.com
The 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) was
implemented primarily to provide access to health insurance for those
who would not otherwise be insured. The ACA is not designed as a
single-payer healthcare system although some of its architects as well
as its detractors see the ACA as steering the United States toward one.
Research the single-payer approach to healthcare delivery using your
textbook, the University online library resources, and the Internet.
In a 3–4-page paper, address the following:
· Define a single-payer system and identify a country where it is
used.
· Using demonstrated research findings, describe the strengths
and weaknesses of a single-payer healthcare system.
· Based on your current situation in terms of healthcare coverage
(insured by an employer, covered under a parent’s or spouse’s policy,
receiving government benefits, uninsured, etc.), explain how a single-
payer plan would affect how you receive healthcare. Do you favor a
single-payer approach? Why, or why not?
· If you were to design a single-payer system, explain how you
would address the challenges.
Write a 3–4-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to
citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention:

HUM 220 Module 5 Assignment 1 LASA 2 Analyzing a
Social Policy
For more course tutorials visit
www.newtonhelp.com
In this course, you have learned that social policies are formulated to
solve social problems considered important by a mass of voters,
media, and political actors. Social policy is but one solution to the
problem—not necessarily the most rational, effective, or socially just.
Social policies are human creations and, as such, can be changed. In
this paper you will analyze a social policy as a tool for social justice.
Research one social welfare policy using your textbook, the
University online library resources, and the Internet.
Analyze the policy and address the following:
The social problem addressed by the policy
1. What is/are the problem/s to be solved in the most fundamental
terms?
2. What is the history of the problem/s in the United States?
3. What are the various theories about the causes of the problem/s?
Based on this, what do you think is/are the most important causes/s of
the problem/s?
The policy objectives, value premises, expectation, and target
populations
1. Policy objectives—overt and covert objectives: What are the
stated objectives of the policy? In your judgment, what are the covert
objectives of the policy?
2. What are the values underlying the policy objectives? What
values are revealed by the overt and covert objectives?
3. What did the policymakers expect would be the result of the
policy?
4. Target segments of the population at whom policy is aimed:
Discuss the direct target of the policy in terms of size and other
demographic characteristics. Who are the indirect targets of the
policy?
Effects of the policy
1. Intended effects: What effects did the lawmakers intend?
2. Unintended effects: What effects did the lawmakers not foresee?
3. Distinguish between short-range (less than five years) and long-
range (over five years) effects of the policy.
Implications of the Policy
1. Changes in the distribution of material resources: Are there any
changes to the distribution of material resources, including income
and other tangible benefits, as a result of the policy for direct or
indirect target groups?
2. Changes in distribution of services, rights, and statuses: Are
there any changes in services, rights, or statuses as a result of the
policy?
Alternative Policies
1. What alternative policy/policies would more effectively address
the social problem discussed in the policy analysis while advancing
social justice?
Write a 4–6-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to
citation of sources. Make sure to include research in addition to the
textbook from credible, scholarly sources. Use the following file
naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M5_A1.doc.
