IBM developed Watson, a question answering supercomputer named after IBM's first CEO Thomas Watson. Watson can understand natural language and processes vast amounts of structured and unstructured data to answer complex questions. It was built using 90 IBM Power 750 servers with 16 terabytes of memory and 4 terabytes of storage. Watson's software, IBM DeepQA, runs on Linux and uses natural language processing techniques to evaluate questions, search its databases for possible answers, and provide supporting evidence for the answers it presents. IBM continues to develop Watson for use in fields like healthcare.
