Technologies (ICTs) is a broader term for
Information Technology (IT), which
refers to all communication
technologies, including the internet,
wireless networks, cell phones,
computers, software, video-
conferencing, social networking, and
other media applications and services
enabling users to access, retrieve, store,
transmit, and manipulate information in
a digital form.
NEED OF THE TIME
 The integration of ICTs in teaching in general and teacher education in
particular is the need of the day.
 Transition towards online learning can overcome some of the biggest
challenges faced by higher education vis a vis ODL system and will help in
combating other challenges of traditional ODL system.

IGNOU’S ROLE
 Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has made a significant gesture in
Higher Education system. IGNOU runs Open Distance Learning (ODL) since more
than three decades successfully for the development of higher education in India.
 IGNOU initiated eGyankosh for learning materials in 2005. It is one of the world's
largest repositories containing more than 40,000 text materials and 2,000 video
lectures. It covers well known universities' course curriculums.
 The study materials can now easily be accessed and downloaded without any
cost by the registration in their respective web portal. The collection contains print
and video-based contents.

Distance education has transformed through thick and thin to live the dream of prof G RAM
REDDY. Prof G RAM REDDY'S vision and inspiration with the new face of digital education will
certainly reach to the remaining unreached in the years to come.
Digitalization is successfully carrying forward the vision that Prof G RAM REDDY had dreamt
