Poultry is one of the most important sectors of agriculture in Bangladesh for
maintaining the need of protein and nutrition. It was in 1995 that the poultry
industry started in an organized
manner in
Bangladesh. In just 20 years the
industry has seen exponential
growth. Investment in the sector
stands at about 25 thousand crore
taka. Its growth rate is about 25%.
There are over a hundred thousand
poultry farms, small and large,
across the country, eleven
grandparent stock farms, 145 parent
stock farms and hatcheries, and 60
or 70 poultry feed
mills. About 5.5 million people are
involved, directly and indirectly,
with the industry and approximately
50% of them are women.
A large section of the marginalised
rural people earns their living through this industry. Of the 18.6%
of the GDP which comes from the agricultural sector, one third is from the
poultry industry. Now it is seen that small scale poultry production
contributes a lot in the total industry. We have to protect it and make bigger
to catch the overseas market.

The only real difference between brown and white eggs that you might know as
a matter of fact is that brown eggs are more expensive than the white ones.
Their nutritional profile, quality and type is all hearsay.
White eggs are laid by white-feathered chickens with white or light coloured
earlobes while the brown ones are laid by brown-feathered chickens with red
earlobes. You would be
correct to assume that
there are more white
eggs in the market
than brown ones but
that's because
breeding and raising
white-feathered
chickens is much
cheaper. Since they
aren't fed as much as
their brown counterparts.
The reason brown eggs cost more is because they come from chickens that have
a big appetite! And also because they're a bit bigger in size. These brown
feathered chickens eat more and hence are expensive to keep.
A lot of research has been done to identify the difference between brown and
white eggs in terms of nutritional value but so far the majority seems to believe
that there isn't any. Dr.Gargi Sharma, weight-management expert believes that
brown eggs are healthier than white egg and for those looking to get their fair
share of protein and and at the same time wanting to keep in check things like
cholesterol and calories, brown eggs are a better option.
However, nutritionist Niharika Ahluwalia says, "There is no real difference
between brown and white eggs in terms of nutritional value. But these days
brown eggs are associated with being organic which might make them seem a
healthier choice. But if the chicken was fed regular food then the eggs wouldn't
be organic."
Are Brown Eggs Healthier Than White
Eggs
Local eggs Known as ‘’Deshi’’ Egg. There are a wrong thinking in our country
people that is local eggs are more valuable than farm egg. For that deshi egg
price are higher about 10tk where farm eggs are 8tk.
In the market eggs of indigenous chicken fetch higher price per unit than the
farm supplied eggs as a segment of consumers consider Deshi egg as more tasty
and nutritious. But there is no scientific support on this point. Size and type of
eggs have no different impact on the taste. But volume of nutrient contents will
vary with size.
Turns out that egg yolk colour is
really just an indicator of the
hen's diet! If they eat more
yellow-orange carotenoids, or
natural pigments, it affects and
changes the yolk's colour.
In fact, while artificial colour
additives are not allowed to be
added to chicken feed,
naturally pigmented substances
like marigold flowers are sometimes added to feed to enhance yolk colour.

These organic eggs are produced from chickens that are fed an organically
grown, multi-grain diet and have access to the outdoor weather permitting. To
be considered organic, the grains are grown without the use of pesticides,
herbicides, or chemical fertilizers.
Organic eggs are equally nutritious as regular
eggs and provide an excellent source of protein,
vitamins and minerals.
The only exception to this nutrient rule would be
omega-3 fats; while pasture raised eggs can have
slightly more than conventionally raised eggs, the
real differences are minimal – to use eggs as a
significant source of omega-3 fats, you need to
choose omega-3 fortified eggs.
Simply put, eggs are nutritious and in many ways
can be considered nature’s perfect food. Eggs are
an affordable and easy way to provide quality nutrition to you and your family
providing an excellent source of protein and 14 vitamins, and minerals.

organic eggs are more nutritious than regular eggs.
A solid body of research shows that for most people, cholesterol in food has a
much smaller effect on blood levels of total cholesterol and harmful LDL
cholesterol than does the mix of fats in the diet. Recent research has shown that
moderate egg consumption—up to one a day—does not increase heart disease
risk in healthy individuals (1, 2) and can be part of a healthy diet. (Make sure to

2008 report from the ongoing Physicians’ Health Study supports the idea that
eating an egg a day is generally safe for the heart, it also suggests that going
much beyond that could increase the risk for heart failure later in life. (3) You
also need to pay attention to the “trimmings” that come with your eggs. To your
cardiovascular system, scrambled eggs, salsa, and a whole wheat English muffin
are a far different meal than scrambled eggs with cheese, sausages, home fries,
and white toast.
The study concluded that backyard poultry farmers were low producers and
chicken and duck were found to be the most common poultry species reared by
the farmers.
Poultry industry is one of the important industries in Bangladesh in terms of
employment avenue and source of protein supply at cheaper price for the
nation. All categories of stakeholders should participate in policy formulation for
the development of the poultry industry. Policy should be based on reliable and
comprehensive field data. For the protection of national interest the
government should be more active in implementation of poultry development
policy in the country. Poultry farmers should be organized into group and follow
the scientific management system.
