- 1. Danielle Hoe Ideal Answer: Camerawork is used in this clip, by the use of a mid-shot two-shot. This is used when the couple are in the cab, and the woman is leaning on the man’s shoulder, this indicates a close relationship. This is again is confirmed when he takes her hand and kisses it, this represents them as being in love and establishes their relationship as being romantic. An over the shoulder shot is also used, when the woman is en-route to see the consultant. This represents the woman as being brave and more assertive as she is going alone and does not want the man to go with her. Later on in the clip the man is being represented as vulnerable and anxious. This is shown by a cut to a serious close up. It represents the man as being very anxious and worried about the woman as she goes to the consultants, showing that he cares for her. A hand held POV shot is also used, just after the woman is hit by, presumably a car. This shot represents the man as panicked as he runs across the road towards her, showing that he loves her as he runs to see if she’s ok. Editing is used in the clip by the use of slow opening shots. These are used when the couple are in the cab together and this represents them as being in a loving caring relationship. When the cab draws up outside of the hospital, we are positioned outside of the action; cuts are more frequent, with shot-reverse-shot with particular emphasis on her face. This technique is used when they are talking on the pavement and represents the woman as being more assertive, and the more powerful figure in the relationship as she insists on attending the appointment alone. Rapid cross cutting is also used in the final sequence. When the woman is in the consultants office and the man outside a café. This represents both characters as linked together as they obviously care about each other, it also helps to build up emotional impact. Brief slow motion shots are also used when the woman is hit by the car and the man is running across the road to reach her. This exaggerates the drama and represents the man as being frenzied and worried as he runs to her, it also represents the woman as being vulnerable as she is lying on the pavement waiting for help. Sound is used in the clip by the use of ambient sound. For example the engine noise of the cab and the street noise as they get out of the cab. This all makes the situation seem realistic and focuses us more on them and their loving relationship. No extra diegetic sounds are heard which again focuses us on the couples dialogue which reveals their relationship. However when the woman enters the consultants incidental music starts, with a woman singing in a lush echo with lyrics about leaving, and being free. This represents the woman as being vulnerable and upset as she may be receiving bad news. Exaggerated diegetic sound is also used just after the accident when the man is running across the road. This is shown by a blaring horn. This brings the man back to the ‘real world’ and represents him as stunned, shocked and horrified at what has happened to the woman. Mise-en-Scene is used by the use of costume. For example both characters are well groomed and stylishly dressed, this makes them seem affluent. The woman is wearing makeup, and an expensive looking coat suggesting that she takes pride in her appearance; it also suggests her to be a professional. There are also repeat focuses on props, for example to gold wedding rings that they are both wearing. This represents them as being newly married and a new commitment to each other, also that they are in love. The consultant’s room that the woman had gone in to is lit from above and surrounded by darkness. This emphasises that it is a place of drama and tension. It also represents the woman as being vulnerable as the room looks dark and gloomy which does not suggest good news.
