- 5. Application Process To apply to study at IEC, you must fill in an application form, which can be obtained from the office. Once we receive your application, we will then ask you to come along with your child to assess your child’s level. Initial assessment will be done by a member of teaching staff. Based on the initial assessment we will then decide in which level your child will be in. If there is place available in that particular level and session, we will then confirm it to you. * Please note that even though an initial assessment has taken place whether or not your child will stay in same level will depend on their performance in class. We may have to move a student if they are not coping although this very rarely happens. IEC cannot guarantee a place in your preferred level & session. 5
- 6. The Curriculum 1. Reading Quran/Qaida (starting with letters to words to complete Quran Majeed with Tajweed rules) 2. Hifz of specific required Surahs suitable for each level 3. Syllabus: Based strictly upon the authentic teachings of the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet PBUH. We follow a structured syllabus incorporating all aspects of basic Islamic education. Syllabus topics mainly cover: 5 pillars of Islam, 6 elements of Eman, Ehsaan, Du’as, Hadeeths, Fiqh, Seerah, Islamic Manners, and Islamic Values. 6
- 7. Key Learning Stages Foundation years Nursery Reception Key stage 1 Levels 1-3 Key stage 2 Levels 4 -6 Hifz (supervised memorisation of Qur’an) Islamic educational classes are open to children aged 4 years onwards 7

Times & Study Days IEC Timings are as follows: 4:30pm – 6:00pm (option 1) 6:00pm – 7:30pm (option 2) Nursery, Reception, Levels 1 and 2 on Tuesdays & Thursdays (parents can select option 1 or 2, subject to availability) Levels 3, 4, 5, 6 & Hifz: Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays: (parents can select option 1 or 2, subject to availability) *For IEC Terms Dates & Holidays, Please collect a copy of the Annual Calendar from the Office or at www.newcastlecentralmosque.com/Admission. 8

What Helps Children Talking and listening Set aside time for talking – without being interrupted by phones, TV, radio, computer etc! - Children find starting school easier when they have Parents who give reassurance and encouragement. Encourage your child to tell you about their day and what they have learned at IEC. One of the best ways for you to help your child do well at school is to take a positive interest in what happens there. When children know their teachers and parents are interested, they are more likely to be successful learners. ...Continued 9
- 10. This will be important throughout children’s study at IEC. Your child could attend this school for many years. It will make a big difference if you remember to: 1) Ensure your child attends REGULARLY and ON TIME 2) Keep attending parents’ meetings and IEC events 3) Keep checking children’s progress 4) Keep talking and listening to your child 5) Keep on being a good example 6) Inform IEC of any suggestions or concerns. ...Continued 10
- 11. Reading Your involvement with your child’s reading is extremely important. A 10 minute session each day will be far more productive than a longer session less regularly. Try to pick a time when your child is not too tired and when distractions are at a minimum – ensure for example that the TV and mobile phones are switched off! - 12. Assessment All children are assessed throughout the school year. Pupils’ achievements are presented in progress reports given to parents on parents’ meetings. At the end of the year, we carry out final assessments. Levels of attainment and the results of the exams are included at end-of-year reports to parents. Pupils are assessed based on: Reading (reading from Qaida/Quran Majeed) Hifz of required Surahs Syllabus Pupils’ performance throughout the whole year Pupils’ attendance (absences are taken into consideration) Pupils’ behaviour *Your child will only be promoted to the next level if he/she is successful in final assessment. ...Continued 12

Late Registrations Procedures regarding late registration: • Children starting mid- term will be assessed before starting class in the normal way. • It will be the parent’s responsibility to help the child catch up with the rest of the class as they will inevitably have missed lessons. • If in any case they are unable to catch up before the final exams and are unable to pass the level they will be expected to repeat the year as is normal for all children that do not pass. 13

Parents Code of Conduct Parents should keep in touch with IEC and let us know if you change your contact details (address and / or phone number) For security reasons, with the exception of dropping and collecting at normal times, all parents must report to the office and not enter the classes without permission. (This for the safety of your children) If parents are concerned or worried about anything, they will need to make an appointment to see the class teacher, or if necessary the Deputy Head teacher. If an incident happens at IEC, we will deal with it and contact you if we feel this is necessary. We offer a positive role model for children at IEC and encourage parents to do the same. ...Continued 14
- 15. It is important that children attend regularly and are punctual. If your child is going to be absent, please always send a short note or inform us via telephone. Holidays in term time should, preferably, be avoided. Please be punctual. A register is taken in the first ten minutes of each session. Any child arriving after this time is marked late. Parents should drop off their child not more than 5 minutes before the start of the session. Please pick up your children ON TIME at the end of the. Session. Please let us know if your child is to be collected by someone other than you or a regular parent/carer. We do not let children go with someone unknown to us, nor do we allow children to be collected by anyone under the age of 14 years. If you would like your child to walk home on their own, please put this in writing to the class teacher. ...Continued 15
- 16. Special Needs: We want all children to feel valued members of our community and believe that each child is entitled to have full access to a broad and balanced curriculum. All IEC staff members are always happy to cater for all the children in their classroom. If there is any such need, you must inform us immediately. Any child having difficulty with their learning will be offered immediate support. We will work together with parents. We believe that working in partnership with parents brings the best results. Therefore, please let us know when children have any special needs. Photo Consent: We are very proud of the achievements of our pupils at IEC . Often these occasions can involve images of some of the pupils participated in the event. If you would prefer that your child does not feature in photographs, please provide the school with a signed and dated letter clearly stating that you do not wish your child to feature in any publicity material. ...Continued 16

Parents Meeting • Parents are reminded that it is mandatory to attend End of Term/ End of Year meeting • Parents are also reminded that it is mandatory to attend meeting requested by the office when required. • These meetings are essential to update you regarding your child’s progress at IEC. • These meetings will also give you an opportunity to discuss about your child’s studies with their class teacher. 17
- 18. Getting Ready For The New Academic Year All children must be dressed modestly. Check your child has their name in everything they bring to school Make sure your child remembers to bring Qaida/Quran Majeed, syllabus, notebook, homework, a small pencil case which includes all the basic stationery: pens, pencils, erasers and some coloured pencils. A named water bottle if necessary. Children are not allowed to bring any electronic devices at IEC. Electronic devices will be confiscated. For Nursery, a child should be at least 4 years of age and MUST be able to use IEC children’s toilets with a minimum adult aid. The sessions are only hour and half, please make sure that your child visits the toilet before coming to IEC. 18
- 19. Fees There is a annual fee for children studying at IEC. For latest fee please speak to a member of staff at the Office. Parents are reminded that the fee payment is mandatory and should be made on time. Those who are paying their fees on a monthly basis, the monthly instalment should be paid at the start of each month and total fee should be paid by January. 19
