- #4: Journal impact factor – is a proxy for understanding how important a journal is for a discipline. The numbers do not compare across disciplines. It’s imperfect but it is used, so that’s why we need to understand it. Thompson Reuters keep the what and why of the indexing proprietary. Done by Thompson Reuters with Web of Science Journal Citation Reports (JCR) which we’ll be looking at in a moment.
- #5: Scopus and Web of Science allow you to look it up for all publications BUT we don’t have access. Fortunately, most journals allow you to look it up on their website or you can try Impact Factor Search.
