The IMPACT project, supported by the European Community under the FP7 ICT Work Programme and coordinated by the National Library of the Netherlands, aims to improve mass digitization of historical printed texts through innovative OCR software and capacity building across Europe. It addresses the significant challenge faced by Europe, where only 1% of books in national libraries have been digitized, and focuses on enhancing OCR accuracy, collaboration, and the entire post-scanning workflow. The project involves a consortium of 15 partners, including libraries and universities, and has a total budget of EUR 15.5 million, with EUR 11.5 million funded by the EU.
