IMPROVEMENTS
I have had my production
pieces evaluated and have
found various aspects that need
to change in order to maximise
the potential of the magazine
and its ancillary products. Here
they are…
• Move Open gardens cover line to current position of slogan.
• Move the slogan to underneath the ‘-shire’ in the masthead. Make
smaller and put in a simpler, less traditional font e.g. Arial, Verdana
or Tahoma
• Move cover lines on the left in slightly so all the cover lines on the
left hand side are in line
• The banner across the top should refer to more content. I would
reference the Gardening Dos and Don’t in your features list and
include a photograph of a flower in the right hand corner of the
banner.
• The Free Inside button isn’t really clear: WHAT’S free inside??
The 2 magazines you suggest are not mentioned on the contents
page which is odd.
• Change Travelling to Travel.
• Make sure dividers across the bottom are all the same (dots OR
lines)
• Change to Property Boom in Cossington
FRONT COVER
CONTENTS
• Images should have accompanying page numbers in the corner
(landmark at Bradgate link to Visiting; deer link to Bradgate)
• Replace Contents with THIS MONTH
• Replace Travelling with Travel
• ‘Win a two week cruise visiting Hawaii and California’
• Underneath the cruise competition, start a new section called
Regulars.
• Subscribe discount needs to be consistent; it’s 25% in the contents
and 20% in the button at the bottom.
• ‘Property boom in Cossington’ – link to the house image
• Link female image to cooking story by mentioning chef’s name.
DPS
• Main image should cover half of left hand page and overlap onto right
hand side.
• The title of the article should be over the image and be called
AN.TICS IN THE SHIRE
• Where the title currently is, add a strapline to give information about
the article and who wrote it e.g. Francesca Orton explores the new
shopping mecca in Syston.
• The bottom left image should be of the owners and needs a caption
underneath.
• Once the main image has stretched over onto the right hand page you
should only have room to keep the last two columns of text. At the top
of the column have the two images currently on page 7, stacked on top
of each other at the start of this column with captions underneath.
You will need to make the images bigger.
• Make sure wrapping of text has the same gap on each side of the pull
quote. You will need to move the pull quote on page 7 down once the
two images are in place in the last two columns.
• Next to the page number, put the magazine title and issue date.
POSTER
• I would make the central image slightly bigger so there is less space at the
top of the image.
• ‘Search Leicestershire Living…’ should be in a smaller font with blending
options such as a drop shadow or stroke. It should also be in the same
font as the font used in the bottom right hand corner. Also stack Search/
Leicestershire/ Living on… on top of each other.
• Replace ‘month’ with March.
• I would have your tagline stretching across the top of the page. Add some
blending options to it e.g. drop shadow in blue or green to reflect house
style. It could also be bigger
• Make sure the featured magazine on the page if the full front page and it
can be slightly bigger.
• Across the bottom of the image, include ‘Available at…’ and then include
the logo for WH Smith. Use the font for the ‘Get Your…issue’.
RADIO
• Start with the ambient sound of birds and then
the door closing as if the speaker has just
returned from a walk
• Need to intersperse with vox pops with
audience members saying what they like about
the magazine; make sure there is ambient sound
as if they are in town
